    Hey everyone, I installed a system in my 2020 Crewmax finally. I did quite a bit of research and bought what I consider pretty nice stuff. In the front doors I got Rockford fosfate t-3 components hooked up to a Rockford t-600 amp, the subs I got three JL w3 shallow mounts hooked up to a Rockford T-1000 amp. I had a custom box installed the box seems to be built
    to the speaker specs but it just sounds like crap. Maybe it’s my expectations but I feel like something isn’t right it just sounds like crap and isn’t very loud. I had two jl w3 8 inch woofers going to a 500’watt jl amp that hit harder than these do. Im sure you need much more info to really help me here this is partly just me venting my frustration too as I spent around $3,000 on all this so it just pisses me off. Any input would be appreciated

    1) Do all the speakers sound like crap or just the subs?
    2) how do you have the three subs wired?

    Hmmm. Theres some super tech guys on here that can probably chime in.
    I wasn't sure are the JL's 8" or 10's? What ohm are the speakers?

    I'm not super knowledgeable and screwed up my fair share of wiring and blown fuses, but ...
    That space in a CrewMax is pretty tight for 2 JL 10's alone.

    So to have three 2ohm subs wired to 2 ohms , I don't believe is possible.
    If they're run parallel you're probably below 1 ohm from the amp....I think?
    Series might be more stable and sound better but would be something like this below,
    Is this how it's wired?
    Wish I could draw on this reply

    AMP +++++ to (speaker 1) pos++
    AMP---------- to (Speaker 3) Neg---
    Speaker 1 Neg-------to Speaker 2 Pos ++++
    Speaker 3 Pos+++to Speaker 2 Neg-------

    You re correct. Running three subs in parellel puts the net impedance of the load equal to the impedance of the one sub divided by the total number of subs which is .666 ohms. And wiring in series is total resistance added together which would make it 6 ohms. Depending on the specs of the amp one could wire two of the subs in series which makes it 4 ohms, and then wire in the third one in parellel to the other two. If my thinking is correct that would bring it to two ohms. But first you need to know the impedance range of the amp. and decide on a target impedence...

    Any pics of the box?? Trying to figure how you can possibly fit 3 10” subs...

    You have jl10tw3d4? And that "filter" I bet is the cause of your problems

    From what I hear is that those 2 10's sound great and very loud. I can only imagine what 3 would sound like. There has to be an issue with how they are wired or the filter you are using.

    Buy yourself a cheap multimeter and it will make measuring the resistance of the wired subs super easy with no guessing.

    Do you have a phase issue with one of the subs? It will kill volume if one it wired incorrectly.

    The space behind that back seat is extremely limited. Why would you want to limit it even more with three 10" subs? I would talk to James at Tech12Volts and see what he says. My opinion, you would have far better sound using 2 10's with more box space than 3, with less.

    OK. After looking it up, these particular subs are either DVC 2ohm, or DVC 4ohm subs. Which are they because it matters a little? It also matters how the second voice coil on each sub is wired. It looks like whether they are 2 or 4 ohm, if wired properly, they should work with the amp; 700watts @4 ohms and 1000watts @ 2 ohms. You were right wiring them at 2ohms. Both 4 and 2 ohm subs have a RMS of 150 watts to 500 watts, so they will work in either configuration, but at 4 ohms they would be close to the minimum wattage which is far from optimum if pushed. My guess is the wiring is the problem. The thing is, with DVC subs, you have more options when it comes to wiring, so when it gets sorted out, I think you will have a good sounding system. With three subs you will have more bass than you know what to do with:rasta:

    Do you have a box that the sub came in? We'll start by verifying the subs specs! :thumbsup:

    do the subs sound like theyre bottoming out in the box?

    can you move the seat up and see how it sounds?

    now that everything is wired, i would disconnect the subs running to the amp and try one at a time to see if its a load issue or if its a particular sub.

    i would also ditch that "filter" and buy something with industry standing, i ran audiocontrol LCs with epicenters in other vehicles. youll want that bass knob with 3 w8s.

    If you’re using the factory head unit, you will never get those subs to sound like they should unless you get a really good DSP. I have the same subs in my truck and used the factory head unit for awhile with a JL fix86 and it still wasn’t that great even combined with a JL vxi amp with built in DSP. I hand to ditch the head unit and fix86 and go aftermarket head unit to get the sound I wanted and now the 10tw3s are at their potential.
