Is the boss 4x4 6112 going to ride smoother then if I install 5100 on the top settings? I already bought a pair of new 5100 but it sounds like the ride is pretty stiff. So debating on selling those and buying boss 4x4 6112. Are the 6112 shocks that much better with there coil spring? I’m looking to run the top setting

I don’t like my 6112s and wish I would have saved the money by going with 5100s. 6112s are pretty stiff. Overall, I wish I went with linear or progressive valved shocks. Bilsteins are digressive and don’t fit my wants/needs.

Will ride a lottttt better. My personal experience with 5100s were they rode like shit. My 6112s are a whole different animal. Truck is actually comfortable to drive.

    To add more context:
I wish I could take a ride in a Tundra with different suspension setups to be able to judge and come to my own conclusion. I bought 6112 based on rants and raves on this forum, because let’s be real it seems like most posts are “get Bilstein”, but to me it’s a lot stiffer than stock. I also live in an area with concrete sectioned roads that make things worse. When I drive on asphalt roads, the ride is decent and I guess the ride on asphalt roads would be good with any setup. OP...good luck, but don’t get sucked in the pro Bilstein posts, read up on different types of shock valving to see what fits your needs. But on sectioned concrete, bring a mouth guard so you don’t chip a tooth on a pogo stick ride while daily driving. Maybe it’s the rear bounce contributing to the feeling but I’m disappointed. When loaded, the ride is tolerable.

Fwiw, 95% of the roads I drive on daily are Concrete roads. Ride is great with the 6112s.

Are the coils that come on the 6112 boss 4x4 the same as a stock spring I would be using with the 5100s

The 6112's spring rate is 610lbs vs 550lbs factory spring rate give or take.

As @Danman34 said, if your 95% street the 6112's are a nice ride. I love my set up. They are a far better ride vs the 4600 TRD shocks.

Does the heavier spring give you a stiffer ride compared to a 550LBS that factory offers?

The ride is a bit firmer but I like that. If you plan to off road I would spend the extra money and go the 6112 route but if you are like me and 95% of your travel is on pavement I would highly recommend the 5100s.

I don't go off road ever. Glad I got the 5100's and didn't spend the extra $$$ for nothing.

Ehhh. The 6112s ride better on road too. You don’t realize the grass is greener on the other side, but it is.

6112s come with their own spring thats specifically designed for the tuning of the shock. It is not simply an oem spring. These are heavy trucks. 2.5” and bigger shocks make the ride in these trucks much more compliant than the 2” they come with.

@Yota707 I would spend the extra money and go with the 6112's. I'm not knocking the 5100's, but I was told by Toytec, Boss 4x4, and a few others as far as ride quality go with the 6112's. I like a somewhat stiffer ride, but also these shocks absorb everything.

Thanks all for the help. I think it’s worth the money to just go with the 6112s. Since I want to run the top setting. Will be selling the 5100 fronts
