Hmmmm, I’m gonna guess it was a snow plow. Not sure though, to be honest.

 

I was thinking bigger truck...snow plow makes sense...but that doesn't look like enough to warrant a snow plow.

 

LOL - here on the west side, they've got those plows running at the threat of snow. That's quite the guardrail modification. I can only imagine the noise that one caused.

I agree with your assessment but they did have the plows out almost all afternoon and last night. There’s a few places with a little more elevation not far from here

 

Correct! My first time there. Was a lot of fun. First time ringing steel too...so I’m shopping for some now. I’m done with paper targets

 

I firmly believe there’s a place for both! As well as plinking at tin cans and shooting aspirin bottles out of the air with a.22 (

 

So I just got my first truck (17 Platinum) as well as my first pistol (SA HellCat) and was looking around. This spot above GreenWater, is this along the trail that takes you towards 90? Like Stampede Pass maybe? Was searching both for places to drive off road and places to shoot, may have stumbled across this same place. Can you confirm? Seems hard to get a straight answer on where it’s ok to shoot outdoors. Appreciate the help.

 

Well yeah...you cannot do steel up close. But walking way out to reset targets is for the birds. I set a lot of cans and random items up on a berm over and over again...glad I'm current on my tetanus.

I don't know if it's the pass thru to I-90...you head east on Hwy 410 past Greenwater. Turn left/north at NF-70 and follow that road for about 6.3 miles. Apparently if you stay on this road it takes you back to a large sno-park. Very popular with the sled crowd.

I’m in NW Oregon, lumber country. 60% of the people around here just shoot in their backyards. I try to keep a lower profile and drive 30 minutes to a quarry up in the hills.

 

I can tell by the bird’s eye view that yea, that’s exactly the spot. Got the truck in June, gun in Aug, and just stumbled past that wonderful drive. Please do take it all the way if you can, you’ll find the Green River where it’s just a trickling, tiny creek, and some bad ass primitive camp sites. Not tough by any means (saw a college kid and his pops in a Miata up there if that says anything) but insane views and so far from everything yet so close.

 

The best part of the PNW... everything is so far yet so close.

 

Congrats on the best year Tundra ever produced (IMO).
You can find any NF, DNR, BLM or any other state land to shoot on. Of course, away from cabins/campgrounds with an appropriate backstop.

 

My buddy that I went out with today just sent me another location of I-90 south of Cle Elum. Will have to go check it out this spring.

 

We’ve got a few spots here in SW WA that we stretch out to about 500yds. Nothing like ringing steel at a distance.

I need to make up some more dingers for my next trip out. 6” dia pipe, 18” tall with a plate welded to cap the bottom and then a 2’ form stake welded sticking out of that. You push the stake into the ground, and then when you hit them you get a distinct “ding” that is easier to hear than just hitting a plate. And they are easier to set up than plate racks.

they do get chewed up over time from larger caliber rounds. Hitting them with the 50 is a blast.

 

Since we are home a lot with the new baby, I decided to make some homemade rear mud guards for the Ranger. These will help keep mud from flying up under the rear seat/fuel tank/battery area. It’s a pain to get the mud washed out without.

 

Hello. New to the group and just bought a 2021 Crewmax with offroad and SR5 upgrades. Live in WA not far from Seattle. I'm looking for some recommendations on nerf bars. My wife is all of 5'2" and clearly needs help getting in the new Tundra. I've checked out Running Boards Warehouse, but don't have any experience with the variety of brands and styles available. I would appreciate any advice on brands, styles, sizes (3" vs. 4" vs 5"), etc.

Welcome to the site Steve! There are a few of us in the PNW. I think opinions on steps vary as much as wheels and tires. I’ve been very happy with the NFAB podiums though I know some people have had some finish problems (mine are always too dirty to see any flattening on the powder coat). I like having the step, though I know that for real off-roading the step is a potential catch point vs a set of rock sliders. for my wife (5’-4”) and my MIL, having steps is a benefit. Hell, even for me it is.

 

Welcome. As @RainMan_PNW Casey said, it's a personal preference. I had nfab 3" 3 step Nerf bars on my MGM tundra that looked good and functioned well. I now have sliders as I do more off roading with hunting and camping and don't want the steps getting caught. Maybe find a few you like the looks of and ask for the wife's opinion on it as she will be using it as well.

Welcome to our corner of the forum and congrats on the new truck.

Sliders are great for protection but they normally don't have a lower step for the vertically challenged. I faced this same dilemma when I got mine b/c my MinL has two replaced hips. I needed something that was lower so the step-up was more gradual.

Hope that link works...if not, click the link below and scroll towards the bottom of the first page. I've been really happy with them so far. They have the tucked-away look of a slider, but have the lower step for actual use. Plus, the step has a decent footprint so it's easy to hit.

Mmmm...old Metallica. I’ve seen them 6 times now in concert - one of my favorite bands. Master of Puppets is probably my favorite album, but so many other good ones over the years.

 

Never seen Metallica. Would have loved to have seen them. Same with pearl jam.

Master is good, but I gravitate to Ride the Lightening.

I've lost track how many times I've seen them...at least 3 times in Key Arena, old King Dome (with G&R) and it's replacement, the Gorge, Memorial Stadium (for the EMP opening weekend...epic concert, Filter, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Kid Rock...). First time was the Black Album when they came to Seattle. Wish I'd been old enough to see their earlier tours, but was not meant to be. They were my son's first concert a few years ago, so happy he got to see them. But the show isn't the same anymore.

 

So do I...but I love any place that's away from the city these days. Each mile away takes another pound off my shoulders.
