Cooper AT3 XLT

I know this is old but were you on stock suspension here?

 

What is your average mpgs with these tires?

 

What is your avg mpg with the Coopers? The only 295/70/18 available near me is the Ridge Grapplers. I'm on the 285 RG's now but the 295 is only 3/8 inch bigger and 10 lbs per tire heavier.

 

I have been playing with my pressures a bit the last year. 45psi gives me almost 16mpg, 40 is a little over 15, 35 was struggling to get 14 but it sure did ride softer / smoother than 45psi.

 

I'm averaging about 12.5 - 13.0 mpg's. That with a mix of maybe 30% freeway and 70% city driving. I lost about 2 mpg's going to these from stock tires. I've been very pleased with the Coopers after about 10k miles of driving.

 

At this point I think I'm going to stick with 285/70 RG's again.

 

FYI - I also had a little rubbing with the 295's on the upper control arms and front sway bar. Spidertrax spacers fixed that issue.

 

I'm on a 0 offset on my 285's. The 285 and 295 is so close in size I don't think the additional weight is worth it.

 

Yeah, makes sense. I may go with that size next time around as well.

 

Yes stock suspension. My city driving gets me about 11.5mpg, highway when I can do 65 is really rare even now days with lockdown. Maybe 14.5~15.5mpg but it's so rare. I am always stuck in some kinda traffic and get around 13 or 14 if traffic is not so bad.

 

Cooper Discover AT3 XLT 295/70R18.
I’ve only had them on for 2 days now but liking them so far!
Initially had trouble with balancing and I was getting steering wheel vibrations and wobble at 50-60mph. After one trip to my local Discount and then back to Discount further away where I got the tires, it turned out one of the tires was not fully round and it just wasn't balancing right. Discount deemed it defective and ordered me another one overnight. Got it replaced it this morning. (3 hours ago at time of this posting). No more wobble or vibrations. Still need to do more driving though to be 100% on this.
These tires are QUIET!!!

 

That was good of them to stand behind the quality and replace the tire. I do think the XLT is a good tire and was a tough choice between it and the Toyo AT3. I think the sidewalk is more aggressive on the XLT but think the tread is more aggressive on the AT3.

 

Is this stock pro height? Any rubbing or trimming required? Spacers?

 

Yes this is stock pro height. 1.25 Spidertrax spacers to get more clearance from UCA and front sway bar and skid plate. Spacers caused slight rubbing on plastic mudflaps and wheel well liner. So I removed the small front flaps, heat molded the larger mudflaps flat, and a little trimming to the wheel well liner. Also had to unbolt the plastic liners and pull them forward then bolt them in position. Same holes just pushed forward a bit. No rubbing after that!

That is what I'm picking up for my truck this week. Would have bought them last week, but ran into an annoying sales dude at DT. He was put off by my price match with WalMart that chopped $70 off each tire, so wanted to switch me to a different size. I've probably forgotten more sales tactics than that guy knows, so I simply picked up the proof of price match, and said I needed to think about it. There are plenty of DTs where I live, and I'm visiting another this afternoon.

 

I bought the 295/70 18 Cooper AT3, they go on Friday, looking forward to losing the puny factory rims and tires.

 

Please post pics when you get them on. I'm still trying to decide between 275/70's or 295/70's. What lift do you have?

Sorry for the long delay but as other people have said, the gas mileage does suffer some. I usuall get 12-13 mpg. But I make short drives to work and errands.

 

Nice looking tires but tread is not aggressive enough for my needs.

Interesting, I have a set in my garage, they measure under 34 as is, will be interesting to measure them installed. So, they are more like a 33.5 tire, LOL.

 

They do measure just under 34 which surprised me too. But they do sure look so much better than the stockers!

So I've had a heck of a time trying to get these tires correctly balanced by Discount. On my 5th balance now in two weeks. And I feel like they finally got it just right. With every earlier balance it would drive good for a day and steering wheel wobble would come back. And sure enough one or two tires would be out of balance. The balance weights even fell off for the 4th balance. So right now just crossing my fingers hoping this 5th balance holds up. If not, I'll go to a 4x4 shop and try a balance there. All this has made me miss the nitto RGs and TGs I had before! Seriously considering taking a loss and switching back to nitto RGs in same 295 or 285 size.

 

That's unfortunate. I never had any issues with balancing. My tires were installed and balanced and I have never touched them again in the 40,000 miles I have on them now. No steering wheel shake or anything like that.
I rotate my tires every 5,000 miles, and do hybrid cross rotation, so they have all been at all 4 corners of the truck and there has never been any vibration.
I hope it gets resolved for you.

 

Maybe a defective tire? I've had mine on since Friday, just had alignment done today. No balance issues, ride great!

 

I've got a set of Cooper AT3 LT's in 275/65/18 going on my '07 DC today.

Truck had Cooper ATP's on it in the same size, but fronts were pretty worn.

Looking forward to picking it up later today.

If I may suggest (since you say your fronts are pretty worn) do a cross rotation. Most of the truck tires wear unevenly (saw-tooth feathering on the edges). If you do a regular rotation that includes crossing instead of just front to back, then you change the tire rotation direction and it evens the feathering out. I have about 40,000 miles on my AT3 XLT's and they are wearing very good.

The cross rotation alternated with front to back sends each tire to all four corners of the truck, while alternating the direction so eventually they all wear exactly the same and any cupping or feathering is cancelled out.
