I’m afraid this is going to have to be an insurance claim. Harness alone is $1150 With in 3 days this little rural rat decided to turn the engine compartment into his home. Cleaned out the first nest over the harness, then he was back that night in the same spot... cleaned it out again set a bag of cat box droppings/clumps. Then he decided to build on the battery

Holy Moly! :eek2: I live in a pretty wooded area and usually pop the hood every few days looking for critters. Good luck with your claim, that sucks.

Tomcat rat traps placed underneath the truck below the engine compartment (baited with peanut butter) have caught 3 squirrels for me so far. They were just going after my firewall insulation, but still unacceptable. I've also been using bitter apple spray in the engine compartment, but I don't know if it's been effective. Essential oils (peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary) did nothing. Good luck.

They are very destructive creatures. They will chew stuff up for no good reason.

They are pretty easy to trap. My mom was tired of them tearing stuff up around her place and ended up trapping over 100.

Start leaving your hood up or setup a little led light in the engine bay. They wont feel safe in there with any kind of light, including ambient.

After fighting rats for years, its my go to method as well as sticky traps on the battery and in that far corner where your harness got chewed. I couldnt get peppermint oil, or any kind of antirodent spray to work. When I park in my driveway I pop my hood and use snap traps at all 4 tires.

I live in this house for 19 years in Missouri and squirrels are very common, but the woods are 150 yards away.. this was the first time.. after cleaning the battery are off last night, I sprayed peppermint oil all over engine and wheel wells. Sprinkled black pepper and Cayenne pepper also put 4 bags of cat box clumps and to top everything I plugged an ultrasonic pest repellent into an extension cord. To say the least it wouldn’t run and had to be towed... warned the dealer to warn the service tech to wash down the engine area. 2021 is not starting out any better... at least insurance should cover.

Bought my tundra with that the same issue but the good thing was my cousin a Nissan mechanic was able to solder all the wires back after a few hours ... didn’t realize how common of a problem this is

Yep. I have heard lights, of any brightness will help. Currently working on a Buick for a neighbor that has been infested. They get into areas to chew wires you would swear nothing could get into. I have found NOTHING that keeps them absolutely at bay, and I have put poison of all kinds out. Sucks for sure.

One day I saw one chewing the edge off one of my wife's stone flower pots . This was right after I found the chewed up extension cord and trash can.

Not sure why he wanted that as his last meal.

I have shot over 250 rats and more than a couple dozen big European squirrels at my place.

ALWAYS leave your AC switch to RECIRC when you park. The opening is the size of a tissue box, and they just walk right in.

Rats are perimeter walkers, so always keep traps along edge of walls wood piles engine bay.
Also, Irish Spring soap and BOUNCE fabric sheets they can’t stand the smell of. The Irish Spring,
I understand. Not sure why they hate BOUNCE.

    Bummer, good luck

So far $7K. Won’t know until they dig in and check everything. Thank God we didn’t cut the insurance back to liability only. All should be covered.

CLASH CLASH CLASH were the noises I heard coming from my basement as I walk down and see all of my sawblades and wrenches shaking and clanging on my pegboard as the offending squirrel ran across them like james bond jumping on the back of alligators. There sat the offending rodent on the cross beam, staring me in the eyes like his testicles were made of brass. SNAP said the Ruger Mark IV as I cast out the furry demon with a CCI quiet round.

That's a reasonable option. The dealer might have a deal on the lot, minimal cost.
