TRD Pro Kit on Amazon

First time I've seen these for sale on Amazon. Guess the Toyota VIN requirement is out the window. Still pricey, but at least shipping is free:

Is that price bad? I just priced them at Sparks and it was $3,163 BEFORE shipping. I didn’t see them at Cool Springs @Roman .

 

Actually, the Amazon price is right there with the same price from the lowest price Toyota sites like Sparks. At least shipping is free if that’s any consolation. For those like me who have looked at the TRD stuff for a while, I’m not surprised by the pricing. If you want new TRD Pro stuff it’s gunna cost you...

 

Also, does anyone know if I wanted to upgrade from my stock Limited shocks to these, would I need any other parts? @Roman ?

 

I just installed the TRD Pro suspension on my 2016 1794 CM. The only other part needed is the small bracket to extend the speed sensor cable on the rear axle-don’t have the part number in front of me but only about $15 or so. If you do yourself search for the TRD instructions on this site or I can send you some later. Mine didn’t come with any.

 

Wow. With all the options out there...there’s no way I’d be crazy enough to snag these!!! Insane!

 

Thank you very much @Badknees ! This setup raises the front end about 2” from stock, correct? I currently am running Pro-Comp 2.5” leveling spacers up front, which would be eliminated with this set-up, right?

You are correct on both accounts.

 

I thought the same thing , but comparatively it’s not too far off. Especially for a tuned and set height for the Tundra.

You could get comparable Fox Or Kings which is 2400+tax and shipping. And a lot of those are off the shelf and probably need to be valves/tuned, if not from someplace like Accutune.

My intent was not to bash anyone that prefers this set but I hope you do enough research on what else could be had with 3k+. Just won’t have the pretty “TRD pro” stamps. Obviously to each their own. It’s your truck after all.

 

Sure. Everyone has their own reasoning for what they buy for their truck. I knew what I was getting into when I bought the TRD Pros. I’ve have Toytec and Kings on other Toyota’s and they’re a little less costly and great components. This time I wanted to stay OEM, heard nothing but praise from TRD Pro truck owners, and had a little extra to spend. To each his own!

 

I installed this kit on my truck in my driveway. I paid a little less than that shipped from Sparks at the time.

I looked at a bunch of stuff—OME BP51, Fox, etc. I settled on these because they’re OEM. Tuned by Toyota specifically for the Tundra. The ride is awesome, and I have better suspension travel front and rear. Plus I saved about $800 on the install doing it myself. Really happy with it.

 

Yeah , so for that and the ride it's not a bad deal or astronomical price, comparatively. Which is what I was saying. I mean Fox, King, all recommend UCA's, diff drop, etc. The Pro is on stock UCA's, not that you couldn't benefit from them and the other parts suggested. Not many people would just get Fox/King/ADS without all the other stuff. So for a leveled look, exceptional ride.... they're OEM, tuned, height adjusted ,and ready to rock for not that much more.
I've read several posts of all the others riding harsh or firm or turned for off-road as a majority of driving. Which would be overkill for me. I haven't heard or read anything bad about the Fox Pro.
The BP51's are pretty awesome looking though

 

Or you could stick with your current setup and spend on something more practical.

 

That was another plus for me—no need to buy new UCAs. In my reading, new UCAs also meant the need for wheels with less positive offset because going up in tire size on factory wheels meant that I would rub on the UCAs.

The way I see it, I spent $800 more than a comparable set of Foxes would’ve cost but saved $600+ on UCAs and $1k+ on wheels.

Plus when I go in for an alignment, the dealer can’t give me grief about having an aftermarket lift on my truck.

 

Correct answer is both. But finding a 114060 or any stainless sport series at an AD (or one for MSRP) is next to impossible right now anyhow.

I could be thinking of this completely wrong, and probably am. But the PRO suspension is internal bypass correct? So when folks say you can get Fox 2.5, King, ADS for cheaper, aren’t you getting a non bypass shock? Which is probably better for hardcore off-road, but not for on road comfort? I would say a comparable is the BP-51 from OME, but then again I don’t know all the ins and outs of the differences in these shocks.

 

Only a few weeks ago, I was interested in the TRD Pro suspension kit and couldn't find one in stock anywhere. I ended-up buying the fronts from Sparks and the rears from McGeorge. I still had to give McGeorge a VIN and wait several weeks on the rears as they were on back order from Toyota. I thought the Amazon ad might be interesting for anyone trying to find these darn things as they seemed pretty hard to find.
It seems this thread has moved somewhat into a debate about the price of the TRD Pro shocks vs. others, but that's not a bad thing as I really enjoy learning from everyone's experience and perspective. For me it's not so much a question of price, but value. To me, value = perceived benefit for the $ invested. Whether its Pros or others, I think everyone can easily justify their own purchase decisions as each person's wants, needs, and situations are different.
