Hey, I have a JBL Stadium 5 amp powering my speakers and subwoofer. During regular listening the speakers suddenly stopped working, but the subwoofer is still working. There is power going to the amp. Any ideas on how to start troubleshooting?

Can you multimeter the output lead to the speakers on the amp? See if you are getting voltage.
Have you check the fuse itself on the amp? Maybe it's blown?

Does this happen intermittently, or did they stop and never work again?

I'll check now. I checked the big fuse from the large gauge wire from the battery to the amp. It is fine. Is there another fuse I should be checking?

they stopped working and have not started working again.

There should be blade fuses in the amp itself.

The fuses on the amp should be right next to the power wire -

Well, if your amp is a 5 channel (and I am assuming that it is) and your sub is still working, and your fuses are good, and your mids/highs are not, I would say that is no bueno! Sounds like you may have burned out channels. Now, I have no idea who or how your system was installed, or with what components. But, if not not installed correctly, or with components that are not compatible with what the amp manufacturer dictates, it can be extremely easy to burn out channels. I am no fan of JBL products. My experience with JBL products has proven to me, that their stuff is utter chit.

I am running JBL GTO609C components in all four corners. How can I verify it is the amp that is broken?
This is really bad timing. I have a long road trip planned for tomorrow. No radio will make it much less enjoyable.

The fuses on the amp were good? Did you put a volt meter on the speaker outputs of the amp?

Fuses on the amp were good. I got zeros from the speaker outputs of the amp.

If you have a spare speaker sitting around l hook it up at the amp. See if you get sounds.

You could try switching the RCAs around to verify the sub still works and nothing else does. If switching the RCAs does not change anything, I think you've confirmed the 4 channels of that amp are dead.

If the problem was downstream from the amp he wouldn't have got zeros on the volt meter for speaker output.

I'm sorry to say, but I think your 4, non-sub channels are burned out. How old is your amp? Assuming that you were not blasting those channels, amps do not last forever and sometimes, the channels that receive the most stress, just die. Again, it's a JBL amp and they do not have a good track record. If that is the situation, come back here and we (or James @ Tech12volts) will help you pick something better based on your budget. Sorry about not having the radio for your road trip. I too, would be upset!

Thanks for everyone's help. I ended up pickup a JL XD600/6v2 from a local shop and got it working again.
The JBL amp was about 2 years old.

Lol...James sells and recommends that specific amp including its Infinity clone.

Well, I did not know that and I completely respect James' opinion. That being said, I used to run around in a community of stereo enthusiasts/installers. And we all had negative experiences with JBL products. But, hey, this is a forum and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
