Well I finally got around to install the NorthStar AGM battery today. I also bought the HKB alternator booster fuse and with a voltage tester I’m getting the correct 14.6v output which NorthStar recommends. The GP audio distribution post really cleans everything up. Pics below

The Alt-S fuse on our tundra limits the alternator output to a max of 13.8v. All AGM batteries are designed to have a higher charge profile at 14.6v. Oddsey, Optima, NorthStar all say to achieve a float charge (topped off) we should be delivering 14.6v. Anything less will/could damage the battery over X amount of time and you would never achieve 100% capacity.

There are other manufacturers with a fuse that only cost you $5.

I went with the HKB $50 fuse but I like the built in safety features of the HKB..

Thanks, trying to figure out what to switch out to from my KO2s.

I really loved my Cooper Maxx, except at the boat ramp....so trying to find something like those that will have good wet traction. Between ATIII and the Ridge Grapps.

How long did it take you to get the fuse? I see they're are in Australia.

I didn't loose any truck settings when i swapped my battery. I would say you are more likely to mess something up by trying to keep voltage to the battery terminals than just quickly swapping the battery.

I think mine took 2 months back in April 2020, so it might be a little quicker now.

Just a FYI. I picked up my Northstar 27F today from a local dealer and it was their last one in stock. They told me Odyssey bought them recently and is discontinuing the entire Northstar brand.

    Get one while you can...

Just noticed there is now an odyssey 27F battery online. Looks exactly like the northstar except its red. I reached out to the battery world store and they said its the same battery.

Both Odyssey and Northstar batteries are owned by Enersys, and have been for a while. All the Northstar Pro series batteries have been replaced by Odyssey Extreme. But it's really the same battery. The old Northstar number was NSB-AGM27F and the new Odyssey number is ODX-AGM27F.

Next up ..... the $1500+ lithium ion battery .......
