I purchased this unit at a auction for $700.00 setting outside for 15 years not knowing if it would even start. 72000 miles put away wet and muddy by the previous owner. Not knowing if toyota would still honor the frame I took the chance. Well its two years later, toyota came through and replaced the frame, that surprised the shit out of me. The manager at the first dealership said it would cost me over five grand to put it on the road because it was the worst rust he had ever seen. That convinced me to try and part it out and scrap the rest.
My son Locke asked if it could be fixed because it would be perfect for him to do what he loves, hunting for treasure. I've got to admit its not the treasure most people assume. Stuff that he had when he was young, toys from the 80s, video games, electronics ,old vintage clothing ,furniture...you get the picture. He sells on line for extra funds. So successful he has been that he paid his way for a school trip to Italy. Soon he will graduate from college and I need a gift that will blow his socks off. I now have a stack of receipts to choke on amounting to $3672.88.(The manager was close) I have a short list of what hasn't been replaced. A/C except new blower and resistor for fan, Engine (which had new plugs and a set of coil packs) Trans, New bearings in drive shaft.... EVERYTHING else was replaced! now it seems I have one more issue...the batt light ,stays on(new battery), I replaced the alternator with a new 150 amp, looked through the dash for chewed wires or any other damage but couldn't find any. Two questions #1 Where can you purchase the device to read the diagnosis link that's under the hood, the OBDII wont link up for some reason under the dash(not compatible?) #2Battery light ??? suggestion's ???

    Welcome!

I don’t have an answer about why that diagnostic tool isn’t working. But here’s a ‘welcome’ bump back to the top of the page. Maybe take by the truck to Auto Zone or one of those, use their tool?

Cool you fixing that truck up for your son. I hope to do the same for mine in a couple years.

    Work in progress...
I had a 2000 a few years back and the ODB2 plug would not power up a diagnostic tool as well... had to run a jumper wire under the dash from the fuse box... never did figure out why it had crapped out... most likely corrosion behind the fuse box... or in the driver side kick panel...
