Decision time! Falcon, Fox, or King

Hi friends,

So, I'd love some advice. My new Tundra arrives next week and I want to immediately add either a leveling kit and wheels and tires. I'm bouncing between the Falcon sport, tow, haul, King 2.5's with adjusters, same in Fox, or a full blown Fox lift kit that includes the following.

I live in Texas will do some off roading, camping, hunting, etc. But truly just want the most fun ride all around. Would appreciate any input and advice.

Any uniball UCA.
Rear leaf expansion pack

 

Save some money get the falcons and use the money you save for one of the other 371 mods you’re going to end up doing.

I've heard great things about the Falcon OEM but wonder if I'll regret not spending another $3k. Falcons are $1500 but I can get a whole Fox kits with adjustable 2.5's and leafs for around $4300. I wish there were more reviews or feedback from folks that installed Falcon.

 

Buy the Falcons and save...if you don't like 'em, I'll buy them from ya and you can spend the extra dough in the Fox setup...but I bet you'll find them a solid option without regret...I just see a win-win situation with more things to be done/can be done with the Falcon setup!

 

Only downside to the falcons is they use your stock springs. So no way to get them pre assembled

Yep, I've already resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to pay someone to install. I got a fair quote for wheels, tires, and suspension install.

 

90% of those getting lifts generally are not performing the install themselves... so it's a moot point in my opinion

 

Yea depends on the install costs in your area.

 

ADS is essentially King racing shocks. They are designed to be hammered on. Excellent top notch suspension.

 

I'd rank King last as far as higher end shocks, in my (and friends) experience their material coatings are significantly behind other people's. Even if you're not in snow country much, I'd lean away from them since all the ones (including the ones currently on my truck) start rusting and pitting the shafts pretty fast. I also disagree with 14burrito, I would not buy uniballs if you can avoid it. Uniballs dont last that long, they inevitably squeak (regardless how new and lubed/clean they are), and seem to be more expensive than ball joints. The camburg ball joint UCAs look almost identical and have the benefits of being a sealed joint. There's a time and place for uniballs, but for a mid travel setup they don't have any benefits imo.

If it was me I'd get the full Fox setup with some Camburg balljoint UCAs (or equivalent). I've never been around a Falcon setup, but heard good things, so no comment in regards to them.

 

About 80k on my original uniballs on Burg arms. Little squeaky here and there, otherwise been kosher and the squeak can be "eliminated" with little maintenance.

The DJ can be fit into almost any uniball arm available as well FWIW.

 

I got maybe 40k out of the uniballs on my 4runner and they had a shit load of slop, swapped them out last year and within a handful of weeks they were squeaking again. That's after washing the joint out and regularly using tri flow on it, plus it cost twice as much to replace the uniballs as to swap out the ball joints. I didn't know the delta joint can be swapped in for uniballs, I'll have to look at that. A friend of mine just got some delta joint arms a few weeks ago so will have to check them out at koh. To each their own though, squeaks on a street vehicle just drive me nuts

I went through this process last year myself. Went ADS and love them, and drive them hard last summer. But go with ADS, Kings, or Fox and you won’t regret it IMO. Find a good deal on one and roll with it I say.

 

Race truck parts make race truck noises.

And from what I see now, Icon hasn't released a Camburg replacement (so i was wrong as of now lol). They offer the DJ as 1" uniball replacements current, not yet in the larger ball sizes.

 

That's only justified if you're doing race truck things

Pretty sure 99% of what we see done to trucks on this forum isn't really 'justified' lol.

People have been offroading for decades pretty sure the shocks they had in the 40's and 50s and 60s et al were absolute dog poop compared to factory shocks now

I was all set to buy kings or fox etc but after seeing them rust like crazy on several trucks I've been eyeing the ironman or dobinsons kit myself. Cheaper too and probably more in line to what I am going to use the truck for (similar to OP)

 

Did fox 2.5 with total chaos uppers with ads triple bypass rear. I love the ride. Fox doesn’t make a rear shock that preforms. I rode in 2 trucks with kings not a fan and icon has way to many issues

Avoid uniball UCA unless you jump your truck. They don’t articulate as well as the SPC, they don’t have the adjustment as the SPC and they wear out faster than ball joints do. Not sure why people, who don’t jump their trucks, still run any UCA’s besides SPC. Well I do, it’s all about the fashion over function, but none of them will admit that.
