Figured I'd start a build thread for my new Tundra although it is going to be a very slow build. A little background, I've been driving Toyota's all my life and have had a 87 4runner, 99 SC'd Tacoma, 99 Corolla, 95 4runner and 00 4runner. My 4runner was my most extensive build as it was armored, supercharged and mid traveled. Spent 4 years building it up, but it was becoming too built to be my DD and as my family is growing I needed more space. We have an SUV already as my wives DD, so a truck would fit the bill. It had to be a double cab for my daughter and a 05-06 so I could get the VVTI. My wife demanded leather and it couldn't be red, so that narrowed my options a lot. So I was on the search for Limited as it would suffice all needs.

I ended up randomly finding a truck on autotrader about 6 hours south of me. It was perfect IMO and well worth the trip. So that day I bought a greyhound ticket at 12:30 AM and got on the bus all night to meet the seller. It was a long trip (13 hours), but the minute I saw the truck I knew I was in love. It was perfect and from pick up to me driving away took 30 min total. The 6 hour drive home was so comfortable and I couldn't ask for a better truck.

Now that I have my truck I have some plans, but they will be slow to happen. This will be a family hauler and camping/snow vehicle. Maximum comfort is what I'm going for, not off road capability, so no bumpers or crazy suspension mods. BTW, first thing I thought when I saw the truck was Moby Dick, the white whale, so thus the name Moby.

    Day I bought it.

    Specs:
2006 Tundra, Double Cab, TRD, Limited, 4x4
    ARE Camper Shell
    Front Bilstein 5100
    Method Mesh 17x8.5
    Nitto Terra Grappler 285/70/17

    Mods to be done:
    Light Racing UCA's (Most likely)
    Rear AAL
    Rear 5100's
    @mattgecko LED Bed Lights
    BAMF Sliders
    TRS D2S Retrofit
    Double Din/Nav Stereo (TBD)

That's about all, it runs great, so why mess with that?

I did take it out for it's first camping trip for my brother-in-law's bachelor party. Truck handled great at altitude and was perfect to sleep in. Winds got to about 50 mph that night, but I didn't notice a thing in the bed. Slept like a baby.

    Home sweet home

Yes that is the red headed step child Tacoma in front of my truck.

Thanks guys! It's been an amazing truck and my daughter is so excited to show people the stock DVD player. Although my wife still gives me grief about it being white. She wants black or grey, which I would have loved but white has so many ways you can go with it.

Took my Tundra out for its first wheeling trip this last weekend. Found some back roads while at my brother in laws wedding in Donner Tahoe and took the kid with me. Nothing like wandering the hills with Dora the Explorer playing in the back seat. Had a blast but definitely had some sketchy moments and really need a non data GPS unit. Had to scale down a hillside and weave through trees to get back on 89 because I couldn't see where I was on my map.

Not bad for stock flex in the back.

Been a while since I updated this thread. Ended up picking up some Lund mats for the front. Very happy with the fit of them and they look great.

Also I finally installed my wheelers aal. I've never messed with leafs before so it was a learning experience. First side took me an hour figuring it all out, but the other side only took 1/2 hour. Super happy with the final result and it really helped with the sag. I also got one 5100 on but ran out of time last weekend. Hoping to get the other on this weekend.

    image.jpg image.jpg

I also removed all the bolts and center caps off my Methods as they bothered me. Just not my style and I liked the look better without them, but it still bothered me having the holes. So I finally pulled the trigger on some @SCSPerformance dark matte bronze Stealth 6. I've wanted these for a long time and can't wait for them to arrive. They will be here Monday but I might wait till President Day weekend to pick up some 255 Cooper ST Maxx.

(I know this is a Tacoma, but I haven't seen a Tundra with the bronze stealth 6.)

Well this update is long overdue. The truck has been driving amazing and I still love it every time I drive it. Been working on a couple creature comforts and finally got some new wheels.

I contacted Vin at @SCSPerformance when his last shipment got in and picked up a set of Stealth 6 in Matte Dark Bronze. I've always had black rims and wanted to change things up. With white you really can't go wrong and I liked that the bronze looked two different colors depending on the light. I have to say I freaking love these rims and they look so good.

    image.jpg image.jpg

I also picked up a set of flush mount LED lights to install as reverse lights. I've had a hard time seeing out the back with the shell on and needed some more light. Found some lights on Amazon with great reviews and only $26 so was sold. I was a bit hesitant about cutting into my rear bumper but noticed someone had hit the bumper and caused a small dent right where I would cut so that made the decision a lot easier. I know nothing about wiring but @MJonAgs32 was kind enough to help me/teach me how to wire the lights. They turned out awesome and I can see so well now. Need to wire up an in cab switch still but this works for now.

    image.jpg image.jpg

    No lights
    image.jpg

    Let there be light
    image.jpg

Today I used some white plasti dip to white the lights out so they blend in better. Turned out pretty good.

    image.jpg

Other than that I'm going to be adding some LED strips in the bed soon and rebuilding some Donahoecoilovers for up front.

Thanks, they have been a much needed light source. It lights up a good amount of light out the side. I can't really see to the sides that well because of the shell anyways.

Digging your truck!! Now get those retro's put in asap. I also have a 04 wht dc and the retro's are probably one of the best mod that I've done. Makes me love driving my truck at night. I went through 2 other sets of projectors before settling in on this final one.

Thanks! I can't wait to begin my retro but going to be a bit. Hoping I can source a spare set of headlights so I can take my time with these ones. Not sure if I want to paint them at all, maybe color match the shrouds. Got some pictures of yours?

Well I finally caved and bought a set of 34's. Been wanting a larger tire since I lifted the rear and my 285/70/17's just looked a bit small for my taste. Ended up picking up a set of 285/75/17 Falken WildPeak A/T3W. They are a new tire and a great mix of street and off road. I saw them in person recently and knew they were my next tire. With a 50k mileage warranty and 30 money back guarantee I can't go wrong. Hopefully will have them on Wednesday of next week and give my review. image.jpg

Also I picked up a 43" single row light bar for behind the bumper. Got the idea from @jberry813 and always like the idea. Only cost me $60 through eBay and will fit nicely.

Lastly, going to get a set of Donahoes that are in need of a rebuild. Got the rebuild parts and just waiting on the coilovers to arrive.

After that I will probably take a break for a while, although I may try a headlight retrofit if I can find an extra set of headlights.

I've taken some on my phone, just haven't uploaded any. I started off with just regular chrome housing and MH1 projectors for a month, then went to the blacked housing with d2s, then blacked housing and black shroud with d2s, now back to just black housing with chrome shroud on FXR. If you do go with retro's my recommendation would be FXR though a bit tougher to retro but the end results will speak for itself. I've compared both D2S and FXR side by side and the beam is just crazy wide compared to the D2S. The cut off on the d2s is a bit sharper with hotter hotspots (if that makes any sense) and it'll give you distance but I wanted width and the FXR won in that category. It's crazy how I can light up at least 4-5 (total) lanes wide with these FXR with the d2s, I'm lucky to get at least 2.

Those are some good looking tires you picked up. I've read great reviews on the older wildpeaks. Regarding your new tire set up, do you think you'll have any rubbing issues on full lock? I have 5100 F/R's and currently on 285/75/16. If not much modifications needs to be done maybe my next set would be larger tires. With the weak offsets on my current wheels I may need to get either wheel adapters or dump these for something else.

Haha I'll take that as quite the compliment. Thought I had updated this thread with pictures, guess not but here you go. I love the look and they fill the wheel well perfect. I'll get a few more tomorrow.

Here you go. They are even cheaper than when I bought them, but I love them. So nice to be able to see out the back at night. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00J5AAX5S/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks! And I love the wikdpeaks, I had them on my 2000 Tundra. What size lift do you have to clear 34's? I'm installing a 4" next week (not the Tuff Country 4.5) Also where did you buy your tires? I've been shopping on DiscountTire's eBay page.

These are the new wildpeaks and much better than the old ones. They are absolutely silent and ride great. Only issue I have with them is the weight, they are heavy tires. I got them at discount tire direct.

I'm running 5100's up front (not sure what setting as they were set up by the previous owner. The rear is a wheelers 1.5" add a leaf. No rubbing other than slightly on the frame at full lock and when turning into a inclined turn (into my driveway). Day to day they ride perfect.

Thanks, it's been a slow build but it helps that I love driving the truck as is. Got some plans for it in the next year though.

It's actually factory paint. The Limiteds have a painted grill where the SR5's have a chrome. Same with the rear bumper, painted on Limited. You know, because we fancy!

Thanks! It's been an amazing truck over the last two years.

Ok couple of updates since my last. I have been loving the Falkens. Super smooth, quiet and great in the dirt I've put them through. Highly recommend them and I don't think I'll get another tire (maybe ST Maxx in the 285/75/17 to try them out).

Also picked up some SCS Ray 10 in brushed copper. Fell in love with the color a while ago and got in on a group buy. Unfortunely they sold before my turn but a few months later Vin at SCS said he had a set of blems and I jumped for them. Couldn't be happier with them and opted for the black bolts.

I also picked up a Tepui Kukeman off of Tacoma World and some bed bars from a member who used to have a Tundra. Turned out awesome and my daughter loves it. Had to drill 4 holes in my bed rails but they will be covered by the camper when the bars aren't in use.

Other than that not much else. I picked up a project 4runner so been putting more into that. I did pick up some Kings that need a rebuild. So hopefully those will be on soon.

Ah makes sense for the limited to be painted like that. Lol. I just bought some dupli color color match paint tundrs black to cover my chrome. Will update on how it goes.

Hey thanks man! I actually got some done today. I just did the grill and bumper, I wasn't sure how the outcome would look. I really like the look. I'll be doing the rest of the chrome the same way.
