I've learned a lot from this forum and thank everyone for posting their comments. I'm a potentially brand new Tundra owner narrowing down my pick this weekend to either a 2020 Tundra limited 4x4 with spray in bed-liner and tonneau cover or 2020 SR5 TSS Off road 4x4 with less than 20 miles on it. SR5 is equipped with 3" pro comp lift, fuel rims and LT305/55 Open Country tires (I think?), spray in bedliner and some automatic door steps. with no additional dealer addons, they've quoted me $47 OTD.

Is that a good deal for a 2020 SR5 with a bunch of mods? I've tried to consider getting a limited and slowly doing the mods myself but this comes ready with them. Thanks for all your feedback in advance.

Depends on how bad you want it. I say 44600 because I want to be in a fair resale position on any purchase. But I obviously am not the one looking. This is a cm cab correct?

You can buy a 21 cm sr5 upgraded with bedliner, mats, steps for 38200 all day long and add your mods cost to that. Likely a better deal for you. Good luck

Thank you 2mchfun for your comment. Yes, crewmax cab. Just to confirm, you'd recommend 44600 OTD with the mods listed? that would mean they'd have to sell at 41000 with the mods? Is that even possible?

Got it. Thank you again. Does the price change if it is a 4x4?

Don’t let your emotional side take control on a big purchase. Be careful and think carefully. Lots of trucks available for purchase.

Do your own mods after careful research, pro comp is not the only lift company in the industry and cool looks aren’t the best option. You can get the wheel design you actually like most, best tire for your driving applications, etc. sucks to buy things twice!

Usually the dealer installed items are on the sticker, compare that with what you would want(this place is great at making you spend $).
Dealers will charge you $100 for the Tundra tailgate inlays, who knows what that Pro Comp spacer lift costs(you'll wanna get rid of it anyway), your $ will go further if you mod it the way you want it.

I got a 4x4 platinum for 49k, 47k seems like a lot for a lower trim truck with most likely a spacer lift.

If you like what you see, then buy it. You will overpay a little, as it is designed to lure you into buying a new, ready to run, modded truck. All you need to do is hop in and go.
If you have time, money and patience, then get the Limited which base cost will be more $ than the SR5, but you can mod it the way you like. This will certainly, without a doubt, cost more than the $47k. The Limited will have more creature comforts, and user options, too. But when you start down the rabbit hole of doing the "one mod at a time" approach, you will find it never ends! ...and is usually about triple the amount of money you "thought" it would be.

If I could do it over, I would’ve rather bought a higher trim for the creature comforts. You can’t add dual zone climate, parking sensors, BSM, etc with buying your SR5. Like people have said above, dealers mark up mods they do to a truck like crazy. Buy once cry once.

Ironmax4x4 Raid bumper with 10w amber work lights and 32" light bar. Rago dash setup with Bulletproof phone mounts. VLEDs interior kit with front and rear footwell lighting. X2Power AMG 27F.
Just went through similar, and ended up with a TRD pro.. By the time I could get a limited or platinum in the color I wanted, in the current climate, I was going to be near the price of a pro, building a faux pro. You just need to know where you want to be at the end of your major mod journey, to decide where best to start. I'll echo, creature comforts are more important than most consider, when buying the vehicle with intentions to mod suspension and everything else.

Buy once, cry once. Don't buy lift, wheels or tires from the dealer, unless they're exactly what you would have gotten yourself. If you want a bigger or more specific lift, get a Limited or Platinum for the safety items, comfort features, then build out.

More to go wrong, i had dual zone before kinda a joke in a vehicle. Zoned house yes, vehicle for what? Why did I have it? Only because it was included already on the vehicle I bought at a really good deal like half msrp to help the dealer get it gone quick. To each his own, but be careful with the gimmicks.

You should definitely be able to do better than that. In March 2020 I was able to get my CM 4x4 TRD Off-Road Package, Blackout Package, SR5 Upgrade, etc. for $41.7K (not including tax - with tax it was $43.5K.)

No, how did you get there? I said I could buy the Sr5 with specific upgrades for 37 here. My trail was 43k and I paid that because it is a limited edition with decent rims, a good michelin tire, the grill I like better than stock, storage boxes, back seat usb ports, locking tailgate, safe, rail system, bed liner, mats, step tubes, and I had power folding oem tow mirrors added plus i kept factory mirrors ($$). Plus it included tint, clear bra, etc. So for a few thousand more, it made mathematical sense to a point. I would have spent on tires either way. I also told OP in pm that I have a 18 4runner also and unless you need a truck, the 4runner and occasional utility trailer might be a better option. I use my Tundra for towing tt. 4Runner everthing else.

I got there by applying realistic discounts and rebates to the price of the truck to the deal you are describing on a SR5 crewmax for 37k non-trail. The 40500 +ttl is the price you should've paid for the Trail using identical pricing. My point is the 37k is an audacious number for a 4x4 Crewmax.

I wouldn’t want to finance a lift and tires into the purchase price. Pay cash later on when you find deals

Audacious to some maybe, I am buying a truck not a house is my logic. Now if you add the value of the options I listed to your 40500 figure you are going to be about what I paid. Things like safe, tailgate lock, tint, clear bra, power fold oem tow mirrors, steps, etc.

THIS^^... if I knew that I was going to add lift or wheels, there is no way I would finance that. Only if paying cash but still. Who’s to say it has what you want let alone what they are charging for it vs you getting. If you finance and that “upgrade” was 5k ( easy number ) it is going to cost you sooooo much more over the term.
My god... think of people that pay for the “tint” add on.

if financed at zero % which I did it might make sense to finance mods. Much better sense for me I know!

I'm using your math on the pricing for your Trail to achieve the $40500 because that actually is the deal you are describing on a stripped down SR5 crewmax. Im not saying its not possible to buy one for 37k +ttl but if it is possible that means you left $2k on the table when you negotiated your deal on the Trail.

For your particular case.... if you did the math on what the dealer charged for the upgrade vs adding later, you were ok with the brand of wheels/tires, you were ok with the brand of the lift and were not going to change them ( if you did or do... you then are over paying ), then at 0% ok.... many people 0% and think they are getting it and.... um nope.

    You must remember three factors
    1. i would have had to upgrade tires to get the same thing.
    2. It is a limited production run and I keep vehicles for over 20 years if at all possible.
    3. I liked the overall look better due to the grill. Which is also an expensive difference! For me, probably the same cost for Toyota!
So, with that being said I was willing to let go of a few bucks different per month. Whoopie!!
Fyi, my sticker price was nearly 53k so if you think I paid too much that is your opinion. My truck, my payment, my choice. Yes, I had to push hard to make it happen.

TSS CM 4x4 Sr5, bed liner, regular steps should run 40k +TTL. You'd be paying 7k for TT&L plus the lift installed and automatic steps. Rims and tires are part of TSS package and are a 5k option that usually carries a 2k rebate, making it 3K option.

TT&L is usually non negotiable, so back that out of the 7k and decide if paying the balance is worth the lift and auto steps.
