Yes, there is a factory towing package that includes a 7 pin.

I need some rear suspension work done and I would feel more comfortable with upgrading to tundra breaks especially on mountain passes... but I guess my biggest issues is towing over mountain passes.

Also I hardly see any manuel transmissions available in the tundra. Why is this?? I love manuals and prefer them. Does it have something to do with it being a v8?

You can run the VIN on Toyota's website or you can also look at the master cylinder. There are pics floating around of what the VSC master looks like.

If it is wear and tear I understand that but you don't need HD springs or anything. The weigh distributing hitch loads all 4 corners properly.

As for the brakes, a good brake controller will make stopping the trailer pretty much feel like stopping without the trailer. The trailer brakes stop the trailer and your truck brakes stop the truck.

The 2nd gens definitely have more aftermarket support. It's also much harder to fit 35s on a 1st gen. I think you'll be happy either way.

I have no idea. My 2002 is still in fairly good shape. Engine runs as good as new and doesn’t burn oil. Made in Japan Engine and Transmission. Like anything else, it depends on how well one maintains their stuff as to the longevity.

That's good!! Thanks for sharing ... My price range for a Tundra is 15,000 max so I will be getting something older than 2010. But sounds like they are still good trucks.

Although it is hard for me to believe than a Nissan frontier is more reliable than a tacoma....

All the million mile Tundras are 2UZFE 4.7 models like the first gen Tundras, very reliable.

I really really wanted an 03 or 04 Tacoma when I was looking for a truck. It was late 2007 and the ones I saw were way more than I wanted to pay. I kept seeing first gen Tundras at nearly half the price with low miles. I started getting interested, a few people I knew had them but the V8 scared me on fuel economy.

I ended up buying my 03 and haven't regretted it once in almost 13 years. Just as everybody said its a little more truck with a little more power. For a while I drove an 06 Taco, my Tundra gets slightly better mpg.

i had an 01 taco 3.4L trd. I towed a boat with it, no problem.
I now have a 02 tundra 4.7L and tow a bigger boat. Also have a cab-over camper (i dont use both at once though).

I would get around 18mpg with tacoma, but Tundra i get about 14. That's the only drawback, but it's worth it.
The Tundra has some pep. More fun to drive. The 4.7L is legendary...it isn't uncommon for these to go 500k-1 million miles.
