    Hello all,

Recently got an 06 double cab SR5 and am looking to put a roof rack over the cab.

I’ve done a little research and it seems that putting Yakima/Thule mounts or towers, crossbars, and then a roof basket (from Rola, Maxxhaul, etc) would be the easiest/cheapest option. Or is INNO the brand to go with? Unfamiliar with it.

Anyone have an example of their rig that may help me put everything together? The truck does have rain gutters (?) on top, are there mounts that clamp onto those as opposed to the door?

    Thanks a lot :)

What are you looking to haul up there? One of our members makes custom roof racks for our trucks. It's the best looking option I've seen. He's on Instagram as Off Road Custom Design.

    Probably around 130 pounds.

I will also use it to lift the topper off the truck when not in use.

Camping gear like chairs, folding table, firewood. Throw stuff on there at night to keep things off the ground. Maybe attach an awning off the side of the basket

Inno racks fir 1st gens. You can check, but I don’t think Thule or Yakima offer roof racks for our trucks (anymore). I’ve got Inno and they fit and work well.

My uncle recently got this 2006 SR5 project and he's been looking for a rack. We'll check out Inno after we finished installing the brake kit and fender flares on the current Superduty project.

Yes. It's @toyotech2016 but he's not been on here in a while. You can surf his facebook page without actually needing an account. FYI- you are in the 1st gen section. I don't think he makes racks for new Tundras.

I pieced together a Yakima roof rack with towers, clips, and crossbars from Ebay.

Ended up selling the whole thing after going on the highway once. The wind noise was unbearable, not just from the round crossbars (no fairing) but also from where the clips compress the sealing on the doors. Maybe I installed it wrong, but I sold it on a Tundra FB group the day after I put it together.

Still looking for a relatively cheap and sturdy solution....

Inno has a roof rack combo that fits our trucks and includes as wind break at the front. Wind noise is not a problem.

@Sunnier This is what I found on INNO's website...

Do you have this setup? When I click on "See your local dealer" it leads me to a 404 page, so that's frustrating.

No. There’s two versions; mine is the more basic that has crossbars very similar to the old Thule and Yakima. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find anything then once day an employee at REI suggested I go to Rack-It in San Diego. You could check Rack-It, maybe find it that way or, if they’re not among the currently featured products, go to Inno to get an idea, then call Rack-It to ask if they sell what you see and want.

I don’t have close-up pics in my phone right now, but here’s the gist, from a distance:B4647C5C-8C79-4E5A-8B85-77B0C92B1512.jpg

Nice rig, thanks for the info. I found this on eTrailer but from what I can see, yours is different i.e. better and doesn't have any of those clips that hook onto the doors. Which I dislike. Might have to give the experts a call. Is yours drilled into the roof?

Nope. Removable. But when the crossbars are locked, and the truck doors are locked, it’s secure. Over time, I expect it will wear down the door seals. But will that happen before my old truck wears out any way...?

Personally like Thule or Yakima, but admittedly don't know much about other options.

Been putting bikes / canoes / kayaks / etc. on the roof of vehicles for a lot of years...pretty much always used Thule.

Since I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, last I checked Prinsu makes one for 1st gens.

    https://prinsudesignstudio.com/product/1st-gen-tundra-access-cab-rack-2000-2006/

It has been a while since I looked into all this, so I may be way off, but my understanding is that toyotech2016 designed these, then Prinsu "borrowed" the design, which kinda sucks, but I don't think he is making them any more, so your only option is Prinsu. They are $615 and require drilling into the metal to install, but fit and work very well as far as I can tell.

Edit... looks like may only be for Access Cabs.

If they made one for double cab I’d just bite the bullet and go that route. A legit rack for only $2-300 more than what Yakima crossbars would cost? Yes please...

So I wound up not wanting to drill into the cab and went with a ladder rack setup. It's got a removable rear bar so you can still use the bed just as well as you normally would and I think with the added weight the truck drives smoother. It does vibrate once you get to about 50 mph so I'll either buy or fabricate some sort of wind deflector.

I’ve seen some ladder racks that work with mid rise camper shells and they don’t look bad at all...
