So after many years of being a Ford/Chevy owner I bought a 2nd hand 1995 4Runner, it was out of necessity and the first used truck I had ever purchased.
I have a few friends with Tundras, one has a Platinum, one has a Pro and the other a Nightshade. I am ready and able to buy a new tuck, the dealer a friend of the family is telling me to wait until the 2022's come out, he said at that time I would have a choice of a 21 or 22.
The 4runner is doing well for me, it is just old and a bit dated.
A few people have recommended this board, including a few people who work at my favorite gun shop, one has a Tundra and loves it, she told me this was one of the best resources hands down to gain knowledge on the Tundra.
    Thank you for having me!
    Liz

    Welcome from Wyoming.

The forum is full of a lot of great info and people.

None of us can really make a recommendation on the 2022 because nobody quite knows what to expect out of it. There is rampant speculation in multiple threads, but we don't have anything official to go on. The current Tundras are considered dated by most when compared to the domestic rivals, but they are generally reliable. The one universal downside to the Tundra right now is the payload capacity. It's pretty low, so it restricts what you can load in the truck and what kind of tongue weight you can have. Again, many threads on this.

Sorry for the ramble. Welcome aboard.

Thank you for taking the time to answer, my friend was suggesting I wait until the specs for the 2022's are out. I do not mind dated, just looking for reliable. I was always directed to buy a Ford or Chevy by the men in my family. I bought the 4runner on my own, it has been great! bought it with 150K on it 3 years ago and now sitting at nearly 250K and no problems. My friends who have Tundra's love them, I have driven them and like the power. I am praying Toyota will have some information in the next few months.
Thank you again for the response.
    Keep your powder dry!

I have to disagree with there being only one downside. Gas milage sucks a** too.

Ok, the one surprise downside, or missed downside.

Thank you for the information, it is a bit of a gamble to wait. I have still seen a few 2020 Tundras online. I am hoping that will be the case when the 2022's are out. I have been told I over plan ahead and over think everything I buy. Thank you again, and thank you for the welcome.

I would need to get the Ouija board out for my dad and grandfather, my brother, he never owned a truck he owns a Jeep and it has been nothing but trouble for him. I have been really happy with my 2nd hand 4runner. I need something larger and the Tacoma does not excite me on any level. Thank you for the welcome from Lower Alabama, love the South in the Winter and Spring, the summer not so much.

The Tundra’s fuel economy is a negligible downside. It is cheaper to own over 5 years than any other half ton. Don’t let the fuel economy numbers make you think it’s costing you more than a different half ton truck would. You would more than eat up +5mpg in parts and maintenance that the Tundra won’t cost you.

I made the decision to buy a 21 because it’s a 14-year-old, tried and true design. I want it to get me back from wherever I take my family dispersed camping or off roading, every time. I didn’t feel like waiting for the redesign. The 3rd gen Tacoma doesn’t instill confidence in the direction that Toyota will take the Tundra.

If I needed to tow heavy loads or needed more payload, I’d have a 3/4 ton GM truck.

    Welcome from music city.

Welcome aboard from CA (Central Alabama). My advice is to not wait. There's enough weirdness and "volatility" in the supply chain that predicting even 3 months out is dang near impossible and really impractical. If you have your engine, model (trim level) and any other "must haves" already identified my advice it to get-after-it. This here truck board has enough geographical reach that if you publish your truck specs you'll get help on what folks know to be in their area (who doesn't love a fly-and-drive).

I too have kept my ole faithful Toyota around. Daily driver is a 1997 T100 4WD with 265,000 on it. There's just something about 3 pedals on the floor that still stirs the soul.

Good luck on your mission Liz. :burnrubber:

The only reason I would wait for the redesign is if you think its release will lower prices of the 2021. I would personally never buy the first year of a redesign. Not even from the great manufacturer Toyota. You've stated what is important to you is reliability. Im the same way. Thats why I bought a 21 last week. no more reliable half ton then the current tundra generation.

Also something to consider is the current supply chain has issues. If you wait you may be out of luck or at the very least facing heavy competition for available trucks

The lady who told me about this board and recommended I take a look and join on more than one occasion drives a Platinum model, I will take a picture of her truck on Saturday. I get to go pick up a Colt Gold Cup that is ready for release to me, I just hope they have some ammunition in stock. That is a whole other supply chain issue :(

Welcome! I agree. I would wait to see what the 2022 has to offer. You will still be able to find a 21 if it’s not your cup of tea.

Welcome from the wet side of WA.

I had just shy of 300k miles on my 2008. It was a no brainer to pick up a brand new truck with the same engine and drive train (and a lot of other common parts under the body work and interior) when shopping for my next 300k/12-yr vehicle.
