So I was rotating my tires last night and found this.
My truck just rolled over 10,000 miles today, its a 21 and only a couple months old.
I have tuned fox 2.5s on it, (but factory control arms)
After reading mixed feelings about diff drops I decided to go without one, I figured without extra travel in the control arms I wouldn't have that much droop, and I have alot of friends running a 3" level with no diff drop and no problems (like 200k miles no problems)
Is it a fluke? I guess I need a diff drop?
And is Toyota going to fight the warranty claim since the truck isn't stock?

doubt its the lack of diff drop. How was the angle after the suspension was setup ?

I had to do all new hub end bands on my 4runner when I lifted it, even with a diff drop. I would clean it and put on new band and see if it fixes it.

    This.

My Fj did that after I lifted it, not torn just re-band it.

The little bulge on the left side of band at the tear location looks like the the band was cinched over the lip, potentially at part manufacturer.
As stated it would be hard to argue dealer on that one.

With where the tear is at, a diff drop would have made no diff

Seriously though, it wouldn't help in this case, this looks like bad luck. Drops may help with the inner fin contact. Your damage looks like it may have possibly been from the clamp damaging the boot, or you just got some road debris that made contact there. They are wear and tear parts, so its worth a shot with Toyota, but don't hold your breath.

I've always been of the school of thought that if the boot goes I replace the entire axle. but I guess the boot didn't fail all the way and the axle is new enough that probably isn't necessary.
I'll take it to one of the less stealy stealerships and see if they'll help.

This^^^. Note the outer boot lip is deformed in a small area at the clamp just opposite the leak. Installation of CV axle boot workmanship...Justified warranty IMO. Give'er a shot, but you'll need a good dealer, not an ah.

The trd pro comes with a 2 inch lift and no diff drop. I don’t see how they can deny your warranty on the cv being so new, maybe after 50k miles

Based off location and how you found it so quickly I’d say just reboot it. Outer boot is less concerning than the inner boot.

20210324_182940.jpg I have a 2018 with a leveling kit on it. The dealership replaced my drivers side c/v boot few months ago and now the are about to replace the c/v axle for the same leak.

I thought drivers side but apparently passengers side.

Clicked to see CV explosion carnage, left seeing a small smudge of grease. 10/10 disappointed in this thread.
