In my experience alot of Chevy and Ford guys respect toyota. They may not buy one but they always say something about how they hold there value and there reliability. You won't here a Ford guy say that about a Chevy or vice versa. It is funny how people forget how American most toyota vehicles actually are....

And toyota is upping production with this truck to try to be competitive, thats why they moved the tacoma to Mexico to make room for Tundra production.

I think we also forget how much of a global company toyota is and othere things they have there hands in, there full size truck is probably a very small percentage of the company. Its like Honda updating there motorcycle or side by side.....that stuff is like a fraction of a fraction of there company probably....

I really wasn’t saying they need to keep a V8 but when you look at the volume of trucks sold in North America I don’t know why they wouldn’t want a bigger piece .
Brand loyalty is a big thing but I’ve noticed on the Ram forum that there’s a lot of people coming from other makes ( Ford , GM , Toyota and Nissan ) .One of their biggest complaints about the other trucks is how dated they were . They could have offered the basic truck to keep the faithful happy and offered more tech as optional .

    change my own
What I want is more torque, payload, horsepower and towing capacity to increase the utility of my vehicle, so that I can enjoy the environment more. I want better fuel economy, so that I have more discretionary income and can enjoy the environment more.

Can you imagine a 7spd manual transmission Tundra? I'd be first in line.

My only concern is how hot the water to air intercoolers will get with sustained, in-boost towing up mountains. I can see it getting hot fast. I have a pair of the turbochargers from this engine here right now. They aren't very big. Ecoboost-esque.

    want to see them?

WOW!? And thank you very much. Only took 1369 posts to get a significant post on this thread.

Hmmm... AT4 3.0L Diesel currently and still holding the first place spot to be my next truck.

Not going anywhere? Efficiency, aerodynamics, fuel economy, power, seating occupancy, safety, size, and profit margins on the products that sell the most are all increasing. All while emissions are going down. This is an engineering wet dream, lol.

Look at this lunacy. 800 miles on a tank, 300hp, and actual utility over a sedan. Truly amazing times. I can’t wait for Toyota to bring this PHEV technology into their trucks. EV for grocery getting, but still the power and function of having IC engine.

My point was if those same power plants are in a smaller more aero dynamic car then they would do even better. If efficiency and lower emissions are really at the top of the list.

But I know there is many other factors to selling cars

Who says efficiency (I am assuming you are referring to fuel economy) and lower emissions are at the top of the list? Emissions and fuel economy are government regulated design criteria. Toyota is in the business of making / selling cars to maximize profits for their shareholders. Don’t get it twisted, THAT is the top of the list.

This engine will be a solid rival to the Ecoboost 3.5L.

but I wouldn't expect Raptor like performance without bigger turbos and tuning.

I'm very confident though it will do 500+ ft lbs right out of the box with a little reflash.

*if* it comes as a hybrid, Toyota better really bring something game changing. Fords new F150 can power your whole house from it's aux power port. 7Kw

my turbo pictures are first hand and I do know a lot more but can't confirm or deny anything ;)

    it might be hybrid
    it might be TT V6
    it might have a 10spd
it might have a monster size touch screen
it might have electric dual motors
it might not require premium fuel.
it might have some other cool stuff too.

it's all fun speculation. Who knows!

    definitely not.
Fun fact it also uses completely electric actuated wastegates that work in similar fashion to the Nissan VR30, and uses a torque based model which will vary boost to achieve desired flat torque.
Which also means the ECU can give you 0psi boost at full throttle :) :(

I hate torque model based tuning.

Totally different platform obviously. However Toyota is combining the Electric and Gasoline to extend range, MPG, and improve performance. A TTV6 at 420 HP combined with a hybrid system should easily exceed 500HP. Toyota doesn’t say what the torque is rated at but electric motors produce a lot of it. I have no doubt when the new Tundra is released no other production Toyota will come close to its acceleration. Don’t get me wrong nothing beats the rumble of a V8 with a BAMuffler! But I’m willing to bet the performance of the new Tundra will eventually pry that V8 out of our hands!

I really enjoy the 5.7L Tundra but lets be honest, the performance, acceleration, MPG, etc down right suck beyond belief. Our brand new 2021 cannot get better than 13mpg highway, and without a doubt is slower than my v6 tacoma. 0-60 on par with my Corolla. Maybe it being a TRD pro adds a bunch of fluff weight but it's slow, and feels numb. The tune is junk on the new trucks. The engine should of been retired 5 years ago.

Of all those "features", I think the monster touch screen is the one I hate the most. I hope they at least have physical buttons she knobs for things like heated seats and climate control. Don't do what Dodge does...

And electric motors produce a lot of torque at 0 rpm, which is nice for towing.

How am I getting 19 mpg highway, then?

What's with the obsession with 0-60 mph times in 3 ton work vehicles lately? You sound like all the guys who have been arguing about 5.3 vs 6.2 vs Ram 5.7 on the GM Trucks forum.

There is something wrong with your Tundra. Either take it to the dealer to get repaired, or get rid of the truck. Pretty simple.

I get 19-20mpg all day long, and the performance and acceleration is fantastic on my Tundra.

19mpg seems excessive. The same commute which gave me 24-25mpg in my tacoma gives me 18 at best in the tundra. I definitely wouldnt say its slower than the tacoma tho

I really hope the trend of monster touch screens fucks right off. It's a vehicle. Our attention needs to be on the road. We're not watching movies or playing video games, we're driving. 8" - 10" is plenty big enough (that's what she said) to make for easy functionality.

A big screen on the dash is a deal breaker for me. If I could afford to drop $50K plus on a truck, I'd rather buy a used 2017 for $30K and put $20K into completely rebuilding it back to new then keeping it forever. The only way I'd buy a brand new truck with a huge screen is when somebody comes out with an aftermarket kit to install a smaller headunit.
