Even though the 295 is 10 lbs heavier per tire, is the fuel mileage about the same between these 2 sizes? I know the sizes are barely different between the two....both Ridge Grapplers.

I would guess you loose at least 1-2 mpg. I think they say every additional pound of weight is more like carrying an additional 7lb.in your vehicle so in this case it’s an extra 300 lbs. I’ve used this spreadsheet to compare different tire sizes and weights. While tire size impacts MPG, it almost all comes down to tire weight at the end of the day.

10lbs per tire alone won’t do that much, but the extra height is what you will feel.

Damn. I might just cancel tomorrow's appointment and order 285's again.

I reset the average trip today and 13.6 miles at an average speed of 62 was 15.4 mpg. It was all drive time except for 3 stop signs in the first mile.

No matter what anyone says, 10 lbs per tire is a lot. Physics will always win. I wouldn’t put too much stock in mpg numbers, as these vary wildly depending driving style, altitude, payload, etc..

Are you set on the RGs? You could get the Cooper AT3 XLTs or Toyo AT3s in the 295/70r18 and your mpgs would be about the same. Weights are the same as your 285/70r18 RGs.

Did you recalibrate your speedometer for the bigger tires you are running? If not, then you are actually travelling further than the computer thinks, and actually getting slightly better fuel economy than it reports to you.

The RG's are the only thing available in the area. Everything else would have to be ordered. Yesh I saw the Toyos are about 4 lbs heavier than the 285's.

I'm about to get new tires, will run 285/75/18 (35" tire). Good year duratracs put in the weight at 60lbs, i can live with that, duratracs are good tires.

I'm currently running 305/65/18 KO2s and they are beginning to look small, and they weigh 63lbs as well.
