Lance says a 650 or 825 camper will, but at a dry weight of 1700 lbs I just don't understand how they can make that claim. I was hoping somebody here would be able to explain. Scout campers comes in at 1160 dry, but then figure 360 lbs passengers and 23 gallons of fuel, you're right at MGVW...before adding any gear. I've really been trying to find a Tundra camper set up that could work for the family, but a camper + family puts us out of reach for any model except the standard cab long bed...and we're not even that fat or that big a crew.

I see a lot of "we upgraded the suspension and tires" and "the rear axle can handle it with the right tires" but not much "we put it on a scale". I love this build and was ready to do it, but even for this couple, they have a dry wt/no options camper at 1325 lbs and easily 500 lbs of passengers and gear. So without water, fuel, and options, there's no way they can be within a 1700 lb payload. Another build, again, they built it out and put it on the scale later, and "it was right at max GVWR". Figure their Hawk is 1250 lbs, they are 300 lbs, 160 lbs of gas in the tank. I guess it's possible with an '06 at 1800 lbs payload. I used to fly a notoriously underpowered helicopter, and would watch a couple 200 lb guys fill the tank and take off, but would be chastised for asking if they were within GW limits... Between keeping a build within a paltry payload and the 12+ month lead times on getting a FWC, guess I have to look at Transits and Sprinters. Or a domestic heavy-duty pickup.

Yeah when it comes to bed campers and the Tundra something like the FWC is about the only option. An as you mentioned it's not ideal and close to max or over. For a normal bed camper it's best to stick to vehicles that are designed to handle that weight, like a one ton is.
