How do you Sell your guns?

It's literally everywhere.. Everywhere. Selling to a resident of another state without transferring through an FFL is gun trafficking/aka a felony.

To take it a step further - you can't even GIFT a gun from one person to a resident of another state without going through an FFL. Uncle Clyde wants to give you the old Marlin .22 he taught you to shoot with back in Indiana in 1991? Well, Uncle Clyde needs to go through an FFL to transfer it to you legally if you reside in another state.

Again, it's kind of a stupid law, but it exists due to the interstate commerce clause - the feds can regulate interstate commerce but cannot touch intrastate commerce. They want their tax $$ if you xfer a gun to another state.

I'm the same way, I get it. I'm not trying to stop you guys from what I think should be a lawful transaction, but just trying to let you know that if not done properly Uncle Sam can get pretty angry about it.

 

Thinking of selling a few of my Dad's guns. He has a Ruger P85 and a Springfield Armory trophy Match 45. Any idea what they are worth?

^^^ This. I bought a shotgun and a pistol from Scheels in Utah. The pistol had to be shipped to an FFL in Wyoming, but I was able to pick up the shotgun at the front counter on my way out of the store.

 

Depending on the condition obviously, I would guess you could probably fetch 200-300 for the P85. The Springfield is about a thousand bucks new...so again depending on condition, age, how many rounds fired through it, etc. you could probably bring 600+

That's just my two cents, I'm not a dealer or broker or anything...not to mention I don't know what the market is like in California

pretty great classifieds section, ive sold roughly 12 firearms through that medium. bought a few as well.

issue with california laws can be handled through your FFL.

Asking price, and street price are miles apart.
Definitely look at what they are selling for.

Gun Joker is exactly that, a joke. Its full of FFL's that shill bid their auctions all the time, so do regular sellers.

Look at closed auctions to see what things actually sold for and if something seems too high, see if its been re listed. Sadly it happens a lot, its as bad as Arms America.

 

I looked at several suggested on-line brokers and local forums and it's a no for me. I'm not trying to sell low $ fast. I'll wait till the gun shows start again and try that route.

 

I mean I can't speak for others, but I just bought a Savage Axis II Precision 6.5 Creedmoor for...what it costs normally on the open market (assuming you can find it). Have purchased 2 firearms via them in the last few months and have had no issues.

 

Good for you, I didn't say don't buy anything. I said be careful of the BS that goes on there if you're a buyer, simple as that.
The OP asked about selling, not buying so my post wasn't directed towards him. It was just a cautionary statement.

Thought I would update this thread for anyone that cares. I sold my Kimber today at the Wananmacher gun showing Tulsa.

I had been to one other show but no comparison. This show is freaking huge. I put a description of the gun on a piece of paper taped to the box and walked while holding it up for folks to see.

I started getting interst right away and had a cash offer of $500 within ten minutes. I held out and sold it for $550 within 30 minutes.

If anybody wants to sell I would highly recommend this show.

Has anybody bought gun parts(non FFL) from Gunbroker.com? The way I'm understanding this site is it's basically like an eBay for guns and parts, right?

I just recently created an account and got verified so I can buy a buffer tube I saw on there that I couldn't find anywhere else. This was over a week ago that I paid for it. I've sent a message to the seller and to the websites customer support

Maybe I'm being a lil inpatient but since I immediately paid for it within minutes of the seller sending me the shipping info, I'd hope for at least a shipment notification day or days after.

 

I've bought a lot of stuff from Gunbroker.com - guns, parts, etc. Does the seller have a good rating with a lot of reviews? If so, I wouldn't worry too much.

 

Thanks. That reassuring. Yeah the seller has an A+ rating. It looks like they are an actual gun shop so I guess I shouldn't be too concerned. I guess I'm just being inpatient after cancelling 2 previous orders from different online vendors after it showed in stock and then kept getting delayed. It's just something I've been trying to get since October.

Glad to hear though that this site is safe and legit. I may look at selling one of my AR builds on it.

Yep, usually no issues at all. Gunbroker typically doesn't have scammers unlike eBay and Amazon private sellers.

 

And since this is revivied... When I lived in TX, I would buy/sell on FB. Private groups I am still in. Loved it. In FL, I use a cash only broker in St. Pete.

Also, never used that website before but glad others chimed in.

 

FB will now ban you for selling guns or parts, even when doing so legally.

In Utah we have a great site that popped up when FB changed their rules - utahgunexchange.com

 

meh, our groups dont sell or buy. We discuss only. and we have kept them going for years, so I am not to concerned.

But, I like that yall have a separate site and in use! The main reason I liked the FB groups is that we can see more information about the seller before showing up in a parking lot with a fist full of cash.

 

I had one sketchy encounter from UGE, met a guy to sell him a Canik Shark ( actually great CZ75 clone). He gave me the creeps so I didn't sell to him.

Otherwise it's all been on the up and up. Police stations around here are even opening their parking lots for buy/sell transactions, including firearms.

But yeah - I completely understand what you mean.

 

Yeah, I have seen some iffy transactions take place. Thankfully I dont sell often and I always run the serials before handing over the cash. I havent seen the Shark, I have my TP9SFX over at the broker now.
