I stumbled across a dudes build with a 89 4Runner on a 1st gen Tacoma frame with a 4.7 swapped in. That thing was awesome

After some master tweaking we feel tighter. Still not perfect but much improved. Strikers are as tight against body as they can be.

Might adjust some more tomorrow. New wheels and tires Friday. Need to finish putting the interior back together tomorrow.

Bad focus. Oh well. Enjoy the potato photo.

 

Don't OEM cat's have some crazy arse long warrantee on them? Like 10 or 12 years? I'd really look into his cat's still having some warranty on them.

 

typically only a year from OEMs. factory warranty is 80k miles or 8 years

 

89 yota pickup. Waiting on photos and full specs, but it’s a 22re 5 speed. If the price is right I’m jumping on it. Frames rotted, beds toast. May use it for the Mercedes powerplant

possible option for adding relays and fuses and not looking aftermarket.. 2 big 5 pin relays, one smaller relay. and 4 fuses, possibly 6 judging by the photo.. i need to have one in hand to see how its internally wired.

 

correction. it would appear that using the r/b no. 3 from a 1st gen sequoia would be best. factory is wired up for 3 fuses with 60 amps total power available, 2 relays already wired internally to 2 of those fuses. and it looks like you can stretch out to 2 more fuses if you so desired. max amp draw for that box unless you upgraded the stock wiring internally would be a safe 60 amps.. my idea is one light bar (or a condensor fan) plus my horns off this box. and it would leave me 1 + extra fuse if i wanted to wire it up. only 2 extra relays. but nothing i want to add really needs more relays... I would probably just run a 60 amp circuit breaker from the battery to that relay box. Would be much cleaner (and more weather proof) than my current relay on firewall with fuse wire thing...

 

I want to find a 4-6 fused relay box with bus bar.

 

Those of you with TPMS, how do you identify which sensor is the problem? Our Rav4 TPMS light blinks for a while then stays on.

 

Take it to the tire place and have them read them. They will know which one has the low battery.

Or just be like me.

 

I need to put sensors in... that blinking light drives me nuts. Could delete it. But it’s nice for letting you know if you suffer a puncture on a trip before actually feeling it

 

Yeah I fight with doing the bypass. Most likely I’ll end up just riding this out until I get my next set of tires and replacing them all at that time.

 

New wheels I’ll put 5 denso sensors in. Till then I clear the code and it’ll stay off for a week or so

 

Remind me, flashing constant is low battery/no communication and solid is low air right?

 

See that's what's weird and why I asked. Ours flashes for the first maybe 30 seconds the car is started, then it remains solid. I assumed the spare was low because that's happened in the past but it wasn't low. None are low in fact.

This is what new ones do. The older one will flash forever. New cars a dead sensor flashes for a bit then goes solid if there’s no coms from a sensor

 

What is considered new? Our is a 2012.

 

I don't understand why so many people are unwilling to have basic maintenance done to the TPMS. They run on batteries & the batteries need changed. Why would you not want such a basic & important safety feature working? People here spend thousands of dollars on suspension upgrades they'll occasionally benefit from, thousands on steel bumpers that are mostly a fashion statement, but a couple hundred bucks to redo 4 or 5 sensors every 10 years or so & the black tape comes out of the tool box. WTH?
Am I the only person that had the TPMS system go off when a tire was going flat? I've saved 2 or 3 tires + rims over the years by knowing early I was losing air in a tire. Keeping that system functional has saved me money & bonus - no annoying dash warning light.
I don't get you guys dragging your feet & cheaping out on this issue.

If you can’t feel a 70 or 75 profile tire going flat, you shouldn’t be driving.

My thoughts, they’re like a back up camera: Neat but expensive tech being applied to something as easy as turning your fuckin head around.

It’s one of the reason new trucks are $50k.

 

I'm guessing you're talking about all the guys that want to rip theirs out. I'm actually trying to fix mine. My questions come out of ignorance as I know nothing about the TPMS and this is the first time in 9 years we've had any problems. As soon as I figure out what I need to do, I'll fix the sensors.

We aren't all so blessed to be driving our trucks on nice open highway at 75. Some of us are caught in stop & go traffic on the highway. Some are driving in a city where pulling over is a multi-blocks challenge.

I'm not picking on any one person here, rather I'm commenting on a long standing tendency of the general populous being resistant to maintaining this one particular system.

Nobody seems to think it unreasonable to take a little sand paper & silicone to the seatbelt guide to keep it functioning well. But $100 for a new tire sensor & all the heels dig in.

It's a valuable safety feature, more data sooner is good. We used to get our data after work when we checked the news & our email on our home PC. Then we started checking our emails at work. Now we have data feeds on our smart phones - because we want more data sooner.
So why is TPMS data sooner less valuable than knowing what cousin Suzies boyfriends mother's girlfriend had for lunch?

$900 for a new iPhone - well, it's the best - okay. $100 for a new valve stem installed - hell no!
