What you think would be ideal for 8 inch lift?

I think that is way to high of a lift, but if one was to install 8 inch lift, minimum 37 inch tires. Would need to regear for those so add a few more thousand to your budget.

I'm pretty sure he was looking at 12" lifts. Not sure why.

To each his own. I have a 7" lift and added an extra inch at the rear to get a slight rake. I go wheeling and my lift allows me to get over larger obstacles.

At least 37 inch tires. If you plan to go off road then a 17" x 8.5" 0 offset wheel is perfect - tires stick out about 2.5-3" depending if you go 12.5 or 13.5 wide on the tires. If pavement is your thing and you're looking for that extra wide stance then a 20" x 10" -23 offset will make the tires stick out an additional inch. Either way you'll need to get a BMC (body mount chop) done.
