VF Tuner 3UR Support - Development Tools

If you already have the vf tuner, you can just plug in and hit 'identify' to see what ECU ID you've got. If not, I've heard people say you can go to your local AutoZone (or similar) and they'll usually let you use a OBD reader to check engine codes, and that should tell you, just take a photo of what it says your ECU info is.

 

I have not yet had the chance to add the completed list yet. Going as fast as possible.
Either tonight or tomorrow will have the complete map list. After that will be the supported calibrations list

Has anyone tried the ovtune on a FFV with E85 yet? The original video said something about modified ignition maps. Even in factory form the extra low end grunt when burning the moonshine is noticeable

I haven't kept up with all of the posts in this thread for a while but when I ordered my flash kit, like many others - my tune did take a some time to get loaded onto my truck (the whole process of downloading the software and installing the correct drivers on my computer was challenging for me) but once I had the tune flashed, I was very happy. I would definitely say worth the wait.

This tune made my truck feel much more sporty and responsive. Being able to bounce on the limiter was fun too
I did not have a gear locking feature on my tunes, just the base tune. I have had a few tuned cars and trucks in the past and I can say this is a great tune. It drives very smoothly, far better than stock. I noticed a lot of hesitation and rough areas in the stock tune, this eliminated that.

Thanks to the community on this thread for all the help along the way. If you're considering getting a tune for your truck - do it, and also don't get anything other than a tune from OV. The ability to work with a person to custom tailor your tune is a luxury.

Anyone see any movement on a tune for the 2021? I know Mat is off for the holiday but not sure if any of the other forums show something updated.

 

it will be available same time 2020 support is done.

It's in the development line. But some older calibrations and folks waiting patiently longer are first to be served.

It will come though.

 

Any timeframe for this? Were you able to overcome the issues with the 2020 tunes?

First, happy holidays and I hope everyone had a safe, Merry Christmas if you celebrate it.


As we close 2020, I want to thank everyone for supporting our business and making all of this possible. 2020 was an eventful year. From a pandemic to supply shortages and worse. I just wanted to thank everyone for continuing to support and believe in us through these hard times.
Things were delayed. Schedules changed. Lives changed.
Without you guys none of this would be possible.

Going forward to 2021, our development schedule has me very optimistic. A new, simplified version of our software. (the simplest, I promise you!). No more 1/2/3 day waiting. No more multi step registration process.
More options, more customization on the horizon, fixing any little bugs, fixing drivability issues by going around Toyotas code.
I understand waiting for updates can be very hard. I am an impatient person myself. I just want you guys to know that I am always focusing on how we can improve things, what we can do to make things better, changes we can make in the tune, our software, etc to stream line things.
We are here for the long term. It's exciting to think what code, patches, tunes, and options we will be making next year and 5 years from now!

we have been working on and have found some of the code inconsistencies between model years.
By disassembling the mode 21/25 PID / communications routine we can now work backwards from that on any tundra ECU.
Does this mean for sure all ECUs will have directshift / gearlock? not 100% sure on that yet. But much more confident about it.

This is includes fixed, working versions for 2018+

We also can now control 4 - Low specific shifting. This will be updated in vF Tuner as well, but not just throttle limits but actual shift targets in 4 Low.

- new features will be coming after direct shift and gearlock is done.


- many new features coming for 2018+ trucks specifically. (due to the fact there is a lot more room in the ECU do to this).

I have read EVERY post and just want to ask if I shell out 600 bucks what does that give me and can I tune my truck without screwing something up? Looking to change shift on trans to firm it up and keeping it in a particular gear a little longer no more 1..2.34..56 if thats possible. Also considering a Supercharger in the future so would like a platform for that tuning also

 

right now the only thing that can be purchased is vF Tuner, which would let you make your own tunes.
which you can screw things up if you don't know how to make a tune.

if you go to our forum, forum.vftuner.com there are some tundra guys on there using it and you can get better info about exactly what you're looking for.

 

But new tunes (prebuilt) are in the works right? I'm def in the crowd of I want something I can plug, play, and walk away...

Mat, can you inform us on what tunes we can expect in a tundra tune pack? Will there be FFV and FI options?

 

Are improved pre-built tunes coming in the future? I understand VFTuner allows you to tune your truck yourself but 99% of folks don't want or know how to do that. One thing I would like to see is a better shift point from 2 to 3. The tune im running short shifts to 3rd under low to moderate throttle.
