I've noticed when I'm off the gas and go back on it seems the truck makes a clunk noise or something like that. Anytime I'm coasting then accelerate it makes that sound. Any ideas or concerns?

Yours being a new truck shouldn't have any slack (and related noises) in the drivetrain. Mine doesn't do that. I'll take it to the dealer if I were you.

Mine does that Sporadically and I’m trying to figure out whether it’s in a specific gear or situation. But I have noticed that on mine as well coasting either on a flat Road it will clunk but not consistently

My does this. I don’t hear a clunk more of a slight jerk or bump feeling from behind. It’s hard to explain.

I seem to remember seeing a TSB regarding something like this? I can't seem to find it now though.

    Did you figured it out?

Mine was doing the same thing, took it to my mechanic and he thought it was the driveline joint, and had it replaced.
But it still making the same clunking sound and I didn’t get charged for it due to the sound is still there. But now after almost a year of driving it like that seems to get worse now. Every time i slightly let go of my gas pedal it makes that knocking clunky sound and sounds like its either 1. My pinion and ring loose or 2. My tcase.

2yrs ago before I purchased it i test drove it and had no issue except it was not going into 4H or 4L so the car dealer had to send it to shop to fix the actuator and or might of have replaced another used tcase with working 4H and 4L.
Long story short, months later down the road I started to hear that clunking and its louder and worser now. Couldn’t get a video because i have no gopro camera to do the job.

Reason why I haven’t taken it in to dealer was because most ppl here had similar issues and their dealer couldn’t find out what was the issue. So I didn’t want to waste my time till i’ve done my research and find and end to it.

Please lmk if yours got fixed.

I had a 2010 4Runner that did this, based on the description. It was very sporadic, and somewhat rare. I just attributed it to the characteristics of the truck. I haven't noticed it in my 2018 Tundra.

Mine has been doing this as well. Specially when I stop then go again sounds like it’s the drive shaft or the rear diff. Has been happening for a few years now

Yeah i think it’s the t-case on mine.. its clunking badly at slow speed and yes sounded like its the rear diff or bad tcase to driveline.

I had the truck at the dealer for a transmission fluid change and brought up this clunk and was able to replicate the clunk while shifting from reverse to drive when the vehicle was checked in, obviously not moving, foot on the brake. You can feel the drivetrain slack get taken up and then get clunk, typically only on reverse to drive. They told me I had a caliper hanging up and that was the noise I was hearing. Very disappointed with the service department, not the first time I've been lied to by them. Of course when I was leaving I wasn't able to replicate it but was soon as I got to work. If I end up with the timing chain noise I had last winter it will be back over there again for the timing chain and then this clunk again.

So if it wasn't the caliper hanging up, any idea what was really causing it? I have the same sound going on in my '14. Clunks when shifting back and forth from reverse to drive but also while I'm moving. Supposed to have it looked at Monday morning.

I haven't had a chance yet but was going to have wife replicate the clunk while I tried to check out underneath to see if anything seams like the culprit. Don't know if I trust the wife enough to try this though. I'm thinking it might be something in the pinion on the rear diff. I know when I grease the rear driveshaft there always seamed to be a lot of slack or play in the rear diff. I should try a different dealer.

I have a clunk noise on my 19, but it only does it one time and only after going from Park to drive. When I press the gas, it will clunk. Again, it only does it once.

my platinum ‘10 is doing the same thing. Has been increasing in frequency over the last year, especially in tow haul or for a day or two after being in tow haul. We are going to replace all driveline joints and see if that fixes it. I laugh that nobody can really isolate the sound!

My 15 had the clunk issues, my dealer said it was the tail shaft needed greasing. They took drive shaft off greased the Tail shaft and went away, for a while now it’s back and just happens to have the extended warranty ran out of mileage this week. So now I’m not sure what to do.

Are you guys sure its not just the backlash in the rear ? Feels just like a driveline u-joint with slop, can sometimes be loudish, depends what you call loud.

My 2019 had a lot of it, after installing the new gears and carrier I can't feel it at all.

I know this is an older thread but I think my new 21 has this. From a stop sign on flat ground when I accelerate it almost feels like the gas in the tank shifts back and sloshes with a low sound, could be described as a bump feeling. Does this or the picture of the TSB below sound familiar to anyone?

I had this issue. I greased the drive shaft and that fixed the problem. I don't think they were doing it when I took it in for regular oil changes.

I questioned the service department about it. They assured me the techs are doing it as part of the scheduled service. I had to pump a lot of grease in there. I imagine it was pretty dry. Haven't had any issues since. Make sure to clean up any residual grease from the fittings. It will fling everywhere, even the exhaust. I "cleaned" it up. Thought it was good enough until I started driving down the road and smelled the grease I left behind burning on the exhaust. No fire or even smoke, just that wonderful smell.

My truck is 2 weeks old, it shouldnt be the driveshaft lubrication unless they dont normally grease it???? No way it could have dried out already, even in Ca.
