I've posted questions on other Discussions, but I wanted to ask about my specific set up and see if anyone has a similar or kind of similar set up.

I do not plan on towing anything. Maybe every so often. I would be using the bed to haul from Home Depot/Lowes or pack it up for camping, hiking, day of off roading. I have some Icons wheels 17x8 Rebounds and 315/70/r17 Wild Peaks.

I'm getting a Icon Stage 9 installed. I'm also installing a Smittybilt synthetic winch and a 100 pound fab bumper will be added from Chassis Unlimited out of Livermore, California. I'm adding a Wheeler's Offroad front bump stop also.

The shop that's installing the Icon didn't want to upgrade the spring to a 700 pound to support the bumper and winch. They wanted to use front bump stops to support it. Icon even suggested to stay with the 600 pound spring. I've spoken to others on here and different shops who think I needed the 700 spring. Anyone have a 600 spring with a winch and heavier bumper with no issues? If so, you thinking of upgrading? What do you have the threads set as on the Icon 2.5 with the 700 Springs? ( I want truck leveled)

The Stage 9 also comes with a bigger leaf spring. I'm thinking of keeping my Sumo Springs to help support large loads. They just hook to the leaf springs using the U Bolt. Anyone have the Sumo Springs on their bigger Icon leaf springs ? How's the performance? Manufacturer states it should be okay to keep them installed.

Any tips on keeping the coil overs clean to prevent hardware failure without having to take the coil over off?

    Thank you!

Theres a lot to this question.

    1. Congratulations on the stage 9, thats a wicked nice setup.

    2. What do you need the sumo springs for? I have them, but i dont have as nice of a suspension setup. In my opinion they are just ruining what you’re trying to accomplish in upgrading the rear. You can’t have it all, sumo springs will hold the rear more level with a load, but they kill your ride quality and suspension travel.

    3. The shop’s argument against 700lb springs is bizarre. Not sure what they mean by use bumpstops to support the weight, but thats not how any of this works. Im guessing he was misunderstood. If your front suspension is resting on the bumps at rest, it’s not setup properly. You need a spring rate to match your vehicle. You can see how it sits with the 600lbers. You may be able to get 2 inches from the front still with the bumper

    1. Thank you! Saved up for awhile for it. Not cheap. Lol

    2. I was going to use the Sumo Springs to prevent sagging in case of a large load. I currently have factory Leaf Springs with the Sumo Springs. Helped with a safe i picked up. I figured that it would prevent the full quality of the Icons. Just didn't want to bottoming out.

    3. I was thinking of keeping the 600 Springs in case I want to go back.
    From Icon:
The standard coils that come on these coilovers are designed to allow for more height adjustment than the next step up in spring rate due to their specifically designed travel requirements. The heavier coil is not offered because you will either end up with less ride height overall or adjust it max the max allowable tread showing for that particular coil in order to achieve the desired height and cause coil bind as the suspension approaches full compression. This is due to their larger overall dimensions. The bump stop spacers are your best option in my opinion to achieve slightly more height with the same coil, just at the expense of a little total wheel travel.

Thank you for helping me out and giving me some ideas.

I’d definitely use a 700lb spring personally. Maybe they don’t know how to disassemble a coilover???

Icon designed the coil overs. But others seem to be getting different results. I just don't want that coil bind if I ever start to bottom out.

    Thanks!

Those same shops I spoke to told me to look at other suspensions (for some reason). King, Fox, OME, and IronMan 4x4. OME was my first choice. I should have stuck to them. I've heard some good stuff about Ironman 4x4.

I thought you could get a 650 pound spring through icon or whoever makes their springs?

I was told it's 600 that comes with the 2.5. Eibach makes their springs, and I spoke to them about getting a 700 spring. They needed some dimensions from Icon. After asking Icon for the information, that's when they suggested not going with the 700. Never got the needed information for Eibach. I did find some Icon 700 springs from Wheeler's Off Road though. So, I just got it through them. They didn't see an issue with using with the 2.5.

I'll have to do some digging, I believe it was Eibach then that either has or used to have the 650 pound spring

True and the 700 pound spring is the way to go, but if you don't want to lose any of your travel (this only really applies to the go fast offroad guys) then the 600-650 pound springs are what you want. If you have a heavier front bumper and winch then you're probably not jumping your truck anyways.
**edit** Eibach does offer a 650 pound spring..... not sure why this wasn't offered as an "inbetween" solution

I read that Fox 2.5 may come with a 700 spring from factory. Is that correct?

Yeah, probably won't be jumping the truck. Mostly will be doing slow off road. I was just looking for something better than the spacer lift I have on the factory coil overs. That spacer lift hits hard while hitting those wash boards in the back country.

Ya believe they do. I know mine are 700s. I had like 4” of lift out of the box. So I backed them off a bit I only have like 3 threads showing and I have no armor at all and the ride is great to me it’s slightly stiffer but in a good way not like a jarring, bucking type stiff it just feels more stable I guess you could say.

That's what I was wondering with the Icon 700 springs. I know it'll be stiffer than the 600s, but I'm not sure if it's going to be so stiff that it'll feel like I have the spacer lift back on which will counter what I was looking for in the Icons. But I also don't want to lose the level of the truck. Eh. Seems like I'll have to figure it out and go from there.

I just do not understand icons response. It makes zero sense at all mechanically.

Even with a 600lb spring, your truck will not be resting on the bumpstops, so adding a spacer to the bumpstop will not give you any lift. If the truck were sitting on the bumps at rest your ride quality is garbage and you will be breaking things quickly.

they either mean to use a small bumpstop spacer WITH the 700lb coils, or WITH a small shim disk over the top of the coil. If the 700lb springs bind at full comp, then that would make sense to need a little bumpstop shim.

Dealing with this delima right now. Spoke to icon and they did not reccomend the 700lb coil at all. Against my better judgment I went with icon. Now here I am with a winch, bumpers and sliders (which I explained to icon I would have) and maxed out sagging coilovers. My lean is more pronounced now as well and I tried to correct it by adjusting the drivers side coilover. 5 full turns made maybe 1/8 - 1/4 of adjustment. Not sure now if I'm going with 700 lb coils or just going King and rid myself of the icons...

Did you get these coils in? I thought Wheelers only carried 14" and the Tundra is 16". Regardless, wondering how the 700 lb springs do.

Jonnynewton909- Man, I ordered my Stage 9 Icon in November 2020. And I'm just getting them now. It took forever. The shop doing called me Monday, so I haven't even had a chance to look at it. Wheeler's does only carry a 14" 700lb spring. It's been awhile, but I think during my months of doing research, that it matched up to what I was getting from Icon. Or so I hope. I'll have to look at my notes to figure out what product number comes with the stage 9. I hope that I didn't overlook the length and was supposed to get a 16" coil. I'm going to call the shop and ask them to measure the coil that came with the 9. I'll let you know what I find. I hope I was right because I have a bumper and winch weighing about 150-160 I need to install Saturday before my Stage 9 is installed on the following Monday.

I spoke to the shop doing my install, Wheeler's, Boss Off Road, SDHQ, and Icon. The shop said that the 14" should be fine. They measured the coil that came with the lift. SDHQ and Wheeler's confirmed that it was a 14". Boss Off Road suggested sticking with the 650 Pound coil which is what Icon also suggested. Boss Off Road said that out of all the Icon installs, he had to only upgrade 1 to a larger coil.

One thing that all of them stated was that 16" may have been from another company. But it'll change depending on what you end up getting. So the 16" that came stock with the truck, will be different than another vendor.

So, i'm going in with the 14" next week for the install and hope that works.
