Took her through the car wash and got the salt off the underfluffies. Even washed my shit-assed work Chevy too.
The woolwax appears to be doing an awesome job keeping the rust at bay so far and sticks like hell even after driving through the salt spray and doing the car wash blasting. :bananadance:

Yeah, I’m right there with you. My wife’s new 4Runner has it up top and would like this as well. My only reservation is being too bright. But that just me. Factory always seems to be tasteful ( not saying this isn’t haha... obviously because I want to do it )

Maybe I’ll try to get the factory piece from the 4Runner and use that. I’m aso worried about it being too bright. Factory is usually the way to go when possible.

I used this 1W 6mm blue LED and it seems to provide just the right amount of light. Could possibly go up the 3W but it would be overpowering and didn't want to spend time putting in additional resistors to bring it back down.

Good to know. Did you put the lid in the usb area and did you have to use a resistor ( if so please elaborate if you can please ) or just hook up up to power? Any pics by chance of your install?
    Thanks

I put it in the overhead console similar to what you would find in most vehicles. It allows for a wider area to be lit. No pictures of the wiring but its pretty simple. Drill a hole to install the LED bolt. I did put in some small connectors so that i can remove the overhead console with the LED bolt attached. Ran the wires along the headliner down the A pillar to where the switches are located. For power, I tapped it off the same wire that illuminates the switches so that it will come on when headlights are on. So you could also do this in the USB area if you wanted.

@danz75 this is exactly what I’m looking for. Did you do lens or no lens? And if it’s not too much to ask, so you have a picture of what the shifter area looks like at night with it lit up?

The charging system on the truck does not charge the AGM batteries as high as they like to be. You probably don't have to charge/tend it monthly or so like I do, but I just want this expensive battery to last as long as possible so try to keep it happy

I went with the 1W so it has a lens. The 3W does not have a lens but i was worried it would going to be too bright. FWIW, I used two white colored 3W bolts in my previous 5th gen 4runner to throw light in the cargo area and it threw an obscene amount of light (but it was ok since the factory lighting was very poorly designed). I could possibly add another 1W to make it slightly brighter and symmetrical but I don't feel that its necessary right now. Color would also make a difference as to how bright it is.

Since its meant to be more of an ambient light, it really not super bright. I'll see if i can get a decent picture tonight

Also, I have a bench seat so column shifter instead of floor shifter but it still works fine for throwing some ambient light in the general area.

Thanks for the pictures, how much woolwax did you use. I tried for the first time last week and used half a bottle. Seemed to cover but I I don't really know if that's enough.

Hopefully this shows how much light is being thrown by the 1W LED bolt.

    With foot well light on.
    upload_2021-1-11_16-5-40.jpg

    Without footwell light on.
    upload_2021-1-11_16-5-16.jpg

Without footwell light on and blue LED bolt covered.
    upload_2021-1-11_16-5-59.jpg

I also installed the 1W LED bolt in red by the switches as an indicator that will illuminate if my tailgate was left down.
    upload_2021-1-11_16-4-55.jpg

You can tell how much brighter the red is compared to the blue.

    Hope this helps.

Well done! I'm intrigued to do something similar as my other vehicles ambient lighting is enjoyed for sure...is the red that much brighter only because you're staring right I to the beam in-lieu of the blue being cast from above?! I'd preferably like red but they don't make 1/2 watt LED bolt lights...ha!
