I live in northern NY. Have to have a truck starter. Any suggestions out there on which brand or style is the best?

I assume you are referring to Remote Start? There's this cool thing out there called The Internet. If you go onto this thing, you can search for things, anything. And more than likely you will find what you are looking for. Had to go there with you buddy, please don't be offended. There are lots of aftermarket remote starting systems out there. Found this one in less than a minute on Amazon. Good luck.

I have a Viper alarm/remote start on mine and I'm very happy with it. I also had one installed on my daughter's car and it's also working fine. If you decide on a viper system, you can find an authorized dealer here: https://www.viper.com/wheretobuy/

I got a compustar from a local installer. I like it because I can still use the fob to unlock the doors and it doesn’t shut the engine off when opening the door.

I have the Tech12volts plug and play and works off your factory fob. I followed his youtube instruction video and was installed and working in an hour. Also does not shut off when you open the door. I have had mine installed a few months and no issues.

I’ve had the Start-X remote start for over a year with no problems. Works every time. Plug and play. Factory fob...just press lock button 3x.

I've always used Viper, Clifford (DEI products) for over 10 years in all my cars. Always been happy with them and no complaints.

I have a Fortin from tech12volts for about a year & half. Love it. Got it with the long-range remotes. They're great. Best part is James at tech12volts - his customer service is fantastic. Maybe he'll have another group buy - that's when I got mine. @james@tech12volts

For any of you who have installed aftermarket starters and it DOES NOT turn off when you open the door - is that on a push-to-start vehicle or a key start?

It occurred to me the other day that it would be awfully easy to leave home without my keys and get stranded at my destination when I couldn't restart the truck.

(I changed clothes after remote starting, and in doing so, left my keys on counter. When the truck turned off, I had to go back inside to get my keys). For the first and only time so far I was thankful for the shut-off "feature".

    1 or 2... I lost count
I have a starter that does not turn off when I open the door but as you mentioned, I have a key. I think the door shut off is specific to a push to start for the exact reason you have in your post. My truck will only shut off if I put my foot on the brake and try to shift out of park without the key in the ignition and in the on position.

From what I've seen the push to start equipped trucks will still shut off when you open the door with an aftermarket remote starter(I know the N2 designs does).

Any chance you have one built in like the 2021s do?
