Possible new buyer. Please educate me.

Buddy has a RAM Rebel... Its nice. Interior blows my SR5 away however, he went from a Tundra to the Ram and wishes he stayed with the Tundra. The pros are sick! I would say if you have any plans to upgrade/mod you should consider a Limited or platinum; you will get leather... and you can swap out the suspension, wheels & Tires to your liking. I wish I did that instead of the TRD- ended up changing all that... and it came with dealer upgraded tires and wheels. Thats in the past now. If reliability and longevity are factors go tundra. I bought it not leased it and will drive it till wheels fall off. Love it!

 

Just watched some YouTubes of the pedal commander. If Tow/ Hawl is a problem for everyday driving I likely will. Seems cool. Seems similar to Tow Haul but cost $300 as opposed to free

 

These trucks are fun to drive. I live in South GA and my truck is a blast to drive hauling ass down dirt roads, fire breaks, cow trails, whatever. If you ever get a chance I highly recommend it. Show us some pics of your truck!

Before I bought my Tundra I had a 2016 4Runner that I drove for 3 years with the Pedal Commander in Sport mode. Always left it on the same setting for all 3 years with no problems. One of the first upgrades I did when I bought my TRD Pro.

FYI. I think I mentioned it earlier in the thread, but I have called three dealerships to ask the service departments the effects of the tow haul button for every day driving. Is there any negative side effects to the vehicle?

The first called me back and told me they don’t suggest it as it could have long-term issues on the rear differential. The second dealership just called and told me to use it all I want as there are no side effects, all it does is change the throttle response and Toyota wanted the best fuel economy and that’s why it’s tuned that way. May effect the gas mileage he said.

so......Waiting on the third dealership to call me back to break the tie?!

 

Wait, a dealer said not to go for it to not have a repair for them to do later? I thought they always said things to make you have to go in for service. Maybe that's what the second one is thinking

 

Is the ‘Tow Haul’ function basically an updated ‘ECT’ that use to be on older Yota’s?....or does it actually provide more power?

 

One of the dealers told me about that. Said the tow haul is the same as a button on older Toyota’s and he couldn’t think of the 3 letters. Kept saying CET or TEC or something like that. So I’m betting that’s it. He is the one that said use any time and it won’t do anything.

I’ve owned a Ram Laramie and now a Tundra Platinum. My Ram crapped out at 110k miles. Tundras break in at 200k miles. Lol. I see it this way. Rams offer better bells and whistles interior wise, but the Tundra drives better and if taken care of will last much longer than the Ram, mechanically. Also, coming from a fully loaded Laramie to a fully loaded Platinum there really isn’t a big difference interior wise. Just my opinion but I love my Tundra and super biased being my Ram left a bad taste in my mouth.

 

Traction control off allows you to control the amount of power that is sent to the driven wheels through throttle application. If you don't know what you are doing and go full throttle it might very well result in smoking tires....but that is not how I use it.
