315/70/17 general grabber atx (~35x12.5x17) mounted on rock warrior wheels. Woke up this morning to find one of them is bulging quite badly. Tire is at 42psi.
I bought them used a few weeks ago but they are basically new with a 2719 date code.
I’ve still got to make the drive home so not sure what I’m going to do yet.
Hopefully general will replace the tire free of charge.

Buying used would be my concern. If they were new/first owner i think you’d have no problem. They may not honor warranty on second hand

Yea the previous owner only had them on for a few weeks before he decided he wanted m/t’s. Tread was at 15.5/32nds (16 is new) so I wasn’t concerned about making the purchase. Anyways we’ll see if general will help me out or not.
I’ve got a 2.5 hour drive home tomorrow so I’m going to take the chance and air down a bit and drive slowly.

Definitely bulgy...like a moose. General should warranty, or where you purchased the tires.

And some light super troopers comedy...

If you had them reinstalled on wheels they may blame the tire shop. I did have a tire shop cut the inside of one my tires long ago, and it created a bulge like that. They would likely require a tire shop inspection for obvious damage, first.

Used from a shop, you may have some sort of warranty from them.

Used from Kijiji, you are out of luck.

    Where did you purchase them?

Title is misleading as they are clearly NOT "Brand new", they are USED. That will be a huge factor in warranty for a shop or mfg.

General tire has no obligation to you as a second hand purchaser. Maybe try the tire shop that installed them, although they usually have a waiver to install used tires as well.

No way I’d drive on that and put people at risk. Especially 2.5 hours.

Drop the tire pressure down and took the back roads home yesterday taking it easy on the speed. Swapped my toyos back on right away.
When I bought the rw wheels, one of the bead rings was seized on so we mounted the tire with the ring on. The bulged tire was the culprit. Probably stretched the cords causing this. Lesson learned. Will be buying another atx to throw on soon and will make sure I get that ring off before hand.

I've seen sidewall bulges like that before on low profile tires on sport cars and some other more typical tires. The tire shops will almost always say it is the result of you hitting a major obstruction like a pot hole. I do think the sidewall tire construction varies a lot and some are more robust than others to impacts. My son had some Goodyear tires on his car and 3 out of 4 had bulging sidewalls and he was guilty of hitting some major potholes. With some Michelin tires he's still guilty of hitting major pot holes and has never had a sidewall issue. Hard to tell from your picture but its something to consider. PS- even though you are not the original owner, you could file a safety issue report with NHTSA if you know the condition was not due to a road condition. (pot hole, curb, etc...) This will often drive a response from the manufacturer. That's a dangerous condition since it can result in a rapid loss of air. Good luck.
