Just trying to make sense of the massive amount of wires in the dash. Need to cut out the small factory amp and go straight to the Alpine located under the passenger side seat.

    1st don't cut anything.

Go here and figure out what harness you need.
    http://www.metraonline.com/

If you've got the small amp in the dash just unplug it and use the wiring adapter to your new radio.

Need more info. Are you installing a completely new system (head unit, speakers, sub, amp)? Are you trying to run the factory wiring to the new amp? That is going to be much more of a pain than just abandoning the stock system and starting over.

Yes, I have the small amp in the dash. Crutchfield said to bypass that amp. There is also a 200 watt Alpine amp under the passenger's seat!! That is what I am powering with the new HU.
This all started because I wanted a rear view camera to back into my garage. I don't use the Tundra much, just to go to the lake which is 1/4 mile down my road. Now I've got door panels and the Passenger's seat out and am thinking of replacing the 20 year old speakers too. Might as well since I'm into everything.
Don't cut anything is the best advice that I have received so for, actually the ONLY advice that I have received so far.

I am replacing the factory 6 disc CD/Cass/AM FM radio with a Pioneer AH221, something like that. Also looking at replacing the old speakers too. Nothing has been touched in 20 years.

Crutchfield sent me 2 adapters with the HU. A 10 pin and a 4-5 pin. They look to me like exactly what is already in there. I have like 5 connectors hanging out of the dash. Not sure what plugs into what, and where to pull my Pwr, Gnd, cetc from to the new HU's adapter. I am still staring at it, and haven't cut anything yet. I'l ready to finish finding and labeling wires, and then pull out the old factory amp, if I can do that without screwing something else up. Confusing, frustrating.....

You can call Crutchfield and they will walk you through the install. You need not cut anything and I would suggest wiring up the reverse camera while you have access to the back of the HU. The adapter will take care of everything: power, ground, etc. IIRC the actual ground is via the antenna, so make sure you have that connected.

edit: I see that you want to run the factory wiring to the external amp. Does the amp take high level (speaker wire) or low level (RCA) for its input. If you have a choice, I suggest going with RCA cables. Then you need to think about getting the output from the amp back to the speakers: reuse existing wires (sure why not) or run new wires (only if you plan to go much deeper into the stereo i.e. digital sound processing etc.) So if you reuse the existing wiring, I guess that is where you will need to cut.

Like others have said Do Not cut any wires. There are harnesses made for your truck which sounds like you have.

After you unplug the factory radio, you should have factory male end harnesses coming out the dash. Then plug the (female end) harness you got from crutchfield into those. The aftermarket radio should also have it's own harness that you plug into it. Then you can connect the lose wires accordingly. There should be a power, ground, front left+, front left- , right front+, right front- , left rear+, left rear-, right rear+, right rear-.

Also there should be remote turn on wire to trigger the aftermarket amp. Depending on the aftermarket amp you have, you may need to run separate power wire to the battery with in line fuse. Then ground amp to the chassis. You will also need to run RCA cables from new radio to new amp to send audio signal. I know it sounds like a lot but it's not that bad. Good luck.

Thank you jamal321. That is great info. The Alpine amp under the pass seat looks like it was factory installed. It is ready to go. There are 2 STINGERs in the dash that changed the speaker wires over to RCA jacks. So I'll take those straight to the new HU. There are Boston Acoustic 5.4LF 5-1/4" 2-way speakers in the front doors, that are valued at $365/pr, but they may be rated at 20 watts, which won't work. ! They may/may not be blown. Rear speakers are Quart QM-160TC listed as 6-1/2" 70Watt midbass speakers. I think the guy who had this truck for 1 year may have blown the speakers, because they are drilled for mounting and have DUCT TAPE around them in the door. So these speakers may be blown. Don't know, but I will find out.

So you think I should just tap into the pwr, grnd, etc that I need from the existing wiring instead of cutting wires? But I really want to get the little amp and the stingers out of the dash. There would be soo much more room to work with.

Start fresh. Remove all old wiring and adapters and use the new ones. Unless the idiot before you cut the OEM radio connectors off. Got pics?

There should be 3 new connectors with pigtail (short) wiring in total. One goes to the new radio (comes with the radio), one goes to the OEM amp harness (for the factory speaker wiring) and one goes to the dash harness that powers the radio (adapter harness).

The radio harness and dash harness adapter get tied together to power the radio and it's functions (dimmer, etc).
Wire in your camera to the radio.
There should be a wire on the radio harness (typically blue or blue/white) to 'turn on' the amp with the radio, that will be run to the alpine.
Run RCA's from the new radio to the alpine for audio signal, instead of the line level to RCA adapters (stinger?).

Run alpine speaker outputs (+/-) if 50w or less to the amp harness adapter. If more than 50w per channel you may need to run wiring to all speakers separately and can store/sell/trash the amp harness. If the wiring to the speakers was already done you can skip this.

Can you take some pics of the amp under the seat and behind the dash? I don't think that is a factory amp under there. (Toyota did not use alpine products) It sounds like previous owner used line out converters to hook up the amp. (it would not come from factory that way) It would be a good idea to take the line out converters and run new RCA cables out from the new radio straight to the amp. It will give you a better signal/sound. Boston acoustic and mb quart make a good speaker so you can use them as long they are not blown.

You can get power, ground etc from the aftermarket harness that plugs into the factory harness out of the dash for your new radio. No need to splice/tap/cut into it.

Alpine MRV-F505 200 watt amp.jpg Dash with connectors.jpg Wires on the hump.jpg Old amp and Stingers.jpg Pioneer Factory New HU connector.jpg I'll attach some pics. I really appreciate your input. It's been 20-30 years since I dove into a car stereo install. There were no crossovers and preamps that I can remember. Stereo-amp-speakers. That was it. So simple.
There are RCA cables on the speaker wires. That is what the Stingers did, change the speaker wire to RCA jacks. So those I can just plug into the new HU.

I don't understand why there are 6 pairs of speaker wires coming back to the dash (seen on Wires on the Hump pic). There are only 4 speakers input into the amp. There may be crossovers hidden in the pass side kick panels. Those come off tomorrow. They are not in the doors.

In the pic of the connectors:
    1) came out of the old HU, but it will go when I pull the small amp out (attached to small amp)
    2) matches 4, but it will go when I pull the old amp out (partially attached to old amp)
    3) matches 5
    4) matches 2
    5) matches 3

    Riddle that for a bit.......

    I wouldn't bother lol.

Yep. Looks like you can remove the factory amp AND those line level to RCA adapters, if your new radio has 4 RCA outputs.

Looks more like 4x speaker wires and 2x RCA cables to me?

Well I pulled the pass kick panel, and THERE IT WAS......the cluster of wires that I have been looking for...and got under the carpet to figure out what is what....and to my surprise (i never would have guessed) what looks like RCA jacks plugged into the amp...actually has SPEAKER WIRE RUNNING INTO THE RCA JACKS!!! I'm not sure how they did that, but there they are..so those will have to be pulled out and replaced with full RCA cables. The weird part is the Stingers in the dash, converting the speaker wire to RCA, so why would you connect speaker wire directly to an RCA jack at the amp??? DAMIFINO>> and still no sign of crossovers..maybe they didn't have crossovers back then???

Crossovers might be built into the tweeter.

I've seen people use speaker wire for rca cables before. Pull that shit out and start fresh.

Are you set on using that amp again?

Maybe do away with the amp and just use the internal amp on the stereo?

Guess it depends what speakers your are going to use.

Wowza, that is a bit extra speaker cable.
Since nearly everything is wired up, I'd say keep the amp or upgrade. Amps are so inexpensive these days...

Dash Connections.jpg I talked to Crutchfield this morning to resolve the wiring issue. They said all that I lack is cutting the 3 wires (yellow, orange, and black) from the old small amp (that releases the old amp), pull that puppy out, and attach those wires to the new plug for the new HU. Speaker wires, antenna, camera, all go straight to the new HU. Hopefully this will help someone else down the road.
With that, I should be able to wrap this job up. I'll post some pics of the finished product.

I want to Thank assassin10000, Festerw, jamal321, and robabeatle, Seth419, and TX-TRD1stGEN for all of your help.
