Interior is gutted. Once it’s out of the paint shop I’ll be removing the entire dash to replace the heater box. Fan works, but as been discussed on this forum the servos are buggered and I got the entire heater from a 2012 for $200 all servos attached and functioning.
I took a pic of the door handle, just poke your index finger in and pull the lever opens the door should the handle not be in place. Easy, nice to know. On the floor you can see a box. I’ll be applying
NOICO 80 ml butyl sound deadener to the roof and inner doors. Should really reinforce the roof repairs and quieten the whole interior. 9263E795-78D4-41EB-A080-18B22CAAB992.jpgAFCB3AC5-5218-4D62-B1D3-A575944E28CC.jpgFD3464B4-EECD-4715-BCBE-2F8467FD69CE.jpgC87E55AB-F117-4A99-B3F4-B3208C856C84.jpg

    Need Help:

What’s the best product on the market to deep clean the plastic door panels and dash and vinyl???
I’ve seen over a dozen YouTube videos perpetrating the dirtiest cars ever. Not one comes close
to this truck! Those videos are for rookies, this is a professional filthying job!

When I hear these words I react the same way my dog does when he hears "go for a walk"

I love threads like this one, great to see an RCSB get some love.

For filth that bad I'd try a pressure washer, at least on the plastic the vinyl may come apart.

I saw that ‘paint it black’. I’m not too inclined to paint. BUT, that being said and friend has mentioned that there are good paints now that are really good quality and will last. That’s last resort for me, but it’s nice to know the final option. I looked at these parts at the wrecking yard, but after a couple of years here in the weather they aren’t much better any more.

Have to correct you though. RCLB! 1%’r now. Less than 1% of Tundras sold are RCLB. I have been told that Toyota will no longer offer Regular Cabs any more. ☹️ Sad day.

I think a steam cleaner is going to be your best bet for cleaning the textured plastics. I wouldn't paint them.

Removing the dash isn't as terrible as it looks. Drop the steering column down (no need to remove), pull the cup holders/radio/glovebox, unbolt the cover which keeping track of all of the electrical connections unbolt the cross bar from inside the door jambs, and waalaa! Access to the heater box. Just make sure to swap the security module from the back of your old heater box, and don't miss any plugs (like for the dash clock on the backside of the far left upper junction box). Good time to add info buttons to cycle through functions of that clock if you're in there for the cluster too.

They have all been hit with commercial 2500 psi pressure washer already. Didn’t even make a mark
on the dirt, nothing. Ive tried three different degreasers. Nothing. This is amazing how the plastic has just absorbed the grime almost at a molecular level.

Just saw the reply about steam cleaning. That’s a good idea!

that bed is for $ 850 is an excellent find and a bonus with line-x already that's 500$ savings right here. how's the condition of the engine?
Pressure washing isn't going to help all the way.. you'll need to get a steam cleaner..
look at some of his videos here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAQHQEO4QpI5dXtr3vLoFCg

Thanks, I’ll check those. The engine as I said needs the timing belt done. It’s past due. Lucky
for me I have a highly qualified friend who has offered to do the engine work. So it will get the
timing belt, water pump, tensioner and everything else needing to be done in there.

Yeah I agree on interior plastics, I just like paintinthings black in general.

I had a friend who painted the plastics in his truck white. I thought it was the dumbest move you could make, but he prepped it well, used bulldog promoter, painted and sealed. I saw it 2 years later and it still looked good.

I know my luck with painting plastic though, it would be last resort for me too.

Just looked back at the pictures and realized it was from a construction company that worked in steel. I'll bet the filth contains a high quantity of steep powder and slag/mill scale, cleaner/de-greaser will do nothing on that. You could try using a dilute muriatic acid to see it it'll dissolve any iron containing filth. Look up "removing mill scale with muriatic acid" for ratios. Muriatic acid wont hurt the plastic but I'm not sure about the vinyl.

I painted my whole interior black piece by piece on my tacoma and it looked so great, like a spaceship. Just add extra coats to high wear areas. Lasted years without chips.

Old bed is off. Cab is boarded, two significant dents pulled, pounded and cleaned up. Overall coming along better than I thought. Good News! Spare tire ratchet works perfectly, down then up easy.
So I hit it with WD40 penetrating anyways. I will replace the 14 yr old tire soon. It has and is holding air but I wouldn’t trust it due to cracking.

Since your cab, you might want to check the spare tire winch and its mechanism. Maybe rustproof some of the areas that might not be reachable afterward.

    Never mind,
    Looking forward to the progress.

Try white distilled vinegar in a spray bottle 50/50. Youd be amazed what rust, grime it will cut through.

    Lots of shenanigans.
Idk if it was already mentioned or you already planned on doing this, but you might wanna consider putting some sound deadening mats on the floorboard and such while you have her stripped apart. Looking forward to the progress of your project truck!!

I will do the roof and doors, the NOICO is sitting in there already. The floor already
has the factory stuff, I can look at seeing if there are gaps. I did the 60 and I didn’t want
to remove the old stuff again.

Got pics from phone from yesterday. Coming along. Considering colour change now.
All this before timing belt and heater replacement. Cart before the horse! But underside
guts are all in fantastic shape. Exhaust is good, driveline is solid. Wiring is all intact.
The two cab repairs are amazing. Scott is really good at pulling them out and cleaning
them up. Good news, this thing is literally rust free so everything underneath is solid.

Man, while you have the thing like that, it would be insanely tempting to change the fuel pump and throw some POR15 on the frame.

I’ll look into the fuel pump thing but unless it’s only $25 I probably won’t worry too much about it.
What is the issue? Are they a known fail item?
The frame will definitely get cleaned up. If I see something that needs covering I’ll do that, but
not getting too worried about rust prevention.

The losers are in no particular order, Bleach was better but the rest just got no where. Weren’t worth the effort to spray them on.

This is a fantastic thread. Been following since I stumbled across it. Wish I could find a good RCSB/LB. It would be cool.

Anyways, while the beds off is the best time to do some rust prevention.

I've found that removing all the old rust, and getting down to bare metal is best. Paint is optional. I use grease. Water proof, never washes off, never rusts through with proper application.
20200607_163715.jpgHere's my rusty, dirty frame when I started. You can see where my bed bolts rusted through. Thats what the heaped piles of rust are.
    20200618_230803.jpg
Here's what it looked like when I got done grinding, wire wheeling, priming, and painting. When my paint was fully cured I rubbed grease all over it. The grease turned into a tacky, water proof film after driving around on gravel roads to get a nice coat on it.
    20200615_193550.jpg

I highly recommend doing something. It will never be an easier time. Trust me

The fuel pump thing is more because when/if it goes out, it's a lot of work to drop the tank and yank it out. When you have the bed off like that, you could swap the pump out very easily.

I was going to tell you get a big tub and fill it with simple green and just let them soak, and then hit them with a nylon scrub brush. That’ll clean up all your gray parts pretty well, and if they don’t clean up to your satisfaction, wipe them down with rubbing alcohol and then get vinyl dye and paint them.
