Looking at picking up this Road Armor bumper tomorrow. Looking at the install sheet, I can't tell what they are talking about trimming on the hitch in step 8. Anyone have any idea?

This bumper is 220 lbs. I went out and stood on my hitch and had the wife measure. With the stock bumper and me being 195, it dropped 3/4 inch.

The other bumper that I was looking at was the SteelCraft Fortis and its 120 lbs. https://steelcraftautomotive.com/i-30498539-steelcraft-76-23380-fortis-rear-bumper-textured-black.html#!model=TUNDRA||make=TOYOTA||year=2020

The Road Armor is a local sale for $800. Thoughts?

Looks like you have to cut some off the top of the hitch receiver to make the bumper fit. I wouldn’t like that. I’d be worried it comprised some structural integrity of the receiver. It does look like a nice bumper though.

I spoke to one of the installers. He said it is a thin metal tab that is on top where the factory bumper bolts to it. He said its really simple to remove. I was asking him about the weight as well. He said 220 is the shipping weight, and the bumper itself weighs 145 lbs.

That’s good. I don’t think 145 or even 220 is too bad, other than subtracting more from our crappy payload. I’ve had an ARE camper and decked for years and haven’t really noticed a loss in power or mpg. Probably have about 500 lb extra in the bed.

Let me know how it goes, I have the same bumper sitting in my garage waiting to install it in the spring, and it's heavy, I say its close to 200 lbs.

Fyi, if you're looking for the back up lights, I got mine from Amazon for way cheaper than the rigid ones they recommended.

Shipping weight is 220. Bumper itself is 140 lbs.

Why such a big difference? Is the bumper 140 but bolts and extra parts are all 220? I can’t believe the box and pallet would weigh 80 lbs.

I bought it and picked it up this afternoon and its in the bed of the truck. Its definitely not 220 lbs lol. I think my front bumper was listed at 190 lbs and it only weighs about 110. :notsure:

All installed and down to minor adjustments. Make sure you have a gap with the tailgate down. Its not in the instructions.

It was Line-X'ed from the guy that I bought it from. Bumper is normally $1500 and I got it for $800. He never installed it....switched to one with a spare tire carrier.

I slowly let it down and watched it. You have some adjustment room for up and down. The metal tab was easy to get off. I just scored each side with a cutting wheel on the dremel and clamped vise grips on it and rocked it up and down. Then I grinded it to remove the burrs and then a shot of paint.

The instructions were only missing minor things like the 2 bolts on the bottom of the corner pieces, and the removal of the 2 brackets in picture #4. They didn't give any torque specs but I used a TW anyway. I did 145 ft lbs on the three frame bracket bolts and 130 ft lbs. On the bumper bolts.

Ok cause mine came from road armor and there was no license plate light, and no linex, you got a really good deal!

Is this bumper compatible with blind spot sensor? Also, does cutting that metal piece off the hitch prevent from reinstalling factory bumper in the future?

It is compatible with bsm, and I don't think it would prevent from installing the factory bumper as you're taking away a piece of metal and not adding anything on.

This one is not. I know the SteelCraft Fortis is blind spot compatible. Yes it does unless you spot weld it back on. There's not a whole lot of strength in the rear bumpers on these trucks.

My bad, I should have said if you order from road armor you have the choice, I got bsm with this bumper.

How do they do it to support BSM? The pics show steel bumper ends.

They'll have pre drilled holes for your sensors.

Are you referring to the "parking" sensors which are the 7/9" round holes? The small round holes are for the parking sensors. The BSM are larger square/rectangular sensors that go behind the plastic end caps on the stock bumper. Those cannot see through steel so they typically require a cutout of some sort on the ends. which type are you referring to that they supported?
