I came from a 19 titan midnight edition.

Great looking truck and the new interiors are even better.

interior was nicer than my new SR5 for sure

Mine had a shake that I couldn’t get rid of no matter which tires I put on there

 

the 2021 are pretty damn nice. 100k bumper to bumper warranty, Fender audio, pano sunroof, V8 is great, screen is decently big. I just didn’t want another. 21 is way better than my ok’d 17 tho.
Looking forward to this lunar rock. It’s missing some things for sure, but man is the sound from the exhaust nice.
I’m about to put some 295/70/18 on and a tonneau.

 

Few questions on ^^^:

- How is the front end vibration addressed? Wheel balancing?
- Is this a common problem specific to the TRD Pro wheels?

Reason I ask -- I am considering getting TRD Pro, I had a 2012 Rock Warrior for 7 years and it was "rock" solid in the front end - no vibrations at all. I always attributed that to the TRD hub-centric wheels it came with.

 

The TRD exhaust is my sound system.

Do the breaks feel a tad soft with this truck? Maybe mushy?
Also, I heard a ton about this V8. The exhaust sounds beautiful but is the engine a lil sluggish when pulling from dead stop? I feel like I have to give it the beans a lil more often than I should.

Get cross drilled rotors and Aussie pads, and if budgeting allows....a Harrop Supercharger. Those two things are on my next todo list. Enjoy!

 

Try pressing the Tow Haul button, then drive around town. Be careful, those back tires will light up pretty easy.

 

So I accidentally hit that when starting and stopping all the time. But, obviously know why it’s used, but what do you mean exactly? Does it throw more power to rear (as it’s assuming you are towing when engaged). Rear can now get away from you if no load?

 

That Tow Haul button you get a whole new animal under your foot. I don't know the "technical terms" for exactly what it does, but it for sure increases throttle response and shift points. Try it just for fun.

 

Holy hell! You were not kidding about the tow haul button. Everything changes. Now here is the question, what does it do long term driving around every day with the tow haul butt and engaged?


Driving about 50 miles an hour I hit the tool all button to see the difference and it is night and day.

 

Yea buddy, it's nuts how much power that little button provides. I only use it when I'm towing my boat, at all speeds. Have no idea what it would do if you used it for daily driving, probably nothing except burn more gas. It's crazy how much stronger it becomes. Hey, I freaked a guy out at a red light one day. He was beside in his F250 SD revving that turbo diesel. So, I hit the button, and when the light turned green I launched it, left him in my rearview mirror. Bet he won't try that stunt with another Tundra, lmao.

 

I’ll be honest when I first read your post I was skeptical at best. When I hit that button it was nuts what it did. Changes the gear shifting for sure but really made the truck not feel sluggish at all. Not only “more peppy” (than the sluggish current stock setup) but actually quick. I’d kill to be able to drive with that on (almost) all the time but something tells me I’d screw that up big time.

 

You can check into it, but I really don't think it would hurt anything, except your MPG's. I drove 250 miles towing my boat on the Hwy at 75 MPH, then through town, no issues at all. That truck felt happy the whole time.

 

Work pays for my gas.

 

Read your Owners Manual, it should tell you something. Call your dealerships service manager and ask him/her.

I felt the same way when I first read the reviews here because "Well, my 2013 F150 has a tow/haul button."

I realize now how dumb that sounded when I said it to myself. I originally drove the truck I now own back at the beginning of March last year, and don't get me wrong - I felt a power increase above my F150 for sure, but it was a bit more tame than I expected.

After the test drive I looked at the dash and said "Oh....there's the tow/haul button." Pushed it and goosed it about the same as I would have my F150.

After about 30' of rubber and me yelling "Holy sh........" I was sold. LOL I knew I was pretty much settled on a Tundra simply because I don't tow a ton, don't tow anything super heavy, and reliability is absolute tops for me. Driving it just sealed the deal.

I then test drove it with my wife. Halfway through the drive, she just looked @ me and said ".....NOW I understand why you wanted a Tundra all these years. Let's go make an offer."

 

I don’t tow except my golf clubs. I’m bout to rattle them back there.

dealership says they don’t recommend it because it changes the differential?? They took 10 min to get me the answer and sounded very unsure. Not sure I trust. May need to try dealer #2. . How is that for confirmation bias

 

I'm late to the party, but for future reference:

Things people seem to realize after the fact:
1) Payload capacity is much less than most folks seem to expect. A crew max with no options has a payload capacity of around 1500lbs (so all passengers + accessories + gear < 1500lbs)
2) MPG is not good. Most of get is close to sticker claims of 13 city / 17 hwy

 

All I know is, if you want to "show out" at a red light (no cops) it will get everyone's attention.

Picking up my new Tundra tonight. Had a 2019 Ram 2500 diesel for the past year, cannot wait to get back into a Tundra.

 

I love my Tundra, but that was the first thing I noticed as well vs. other trucks when test driving...Mushy brake response.
My wife rarely drives it but anytime she does I always remind her to give herself plenty of braking distance.
Her Honda Odyssey will stop on a dime and pick it up.

 

2 big changes - you mentioned the gearing changes, the other is the throttle mapping. Stock it ramps up, so essentially (don't know exact numbers but this is to show an example) 25% on the throttle pedal is 10% throttle on the engine, 50% pedal is 30% engine, 75% pedal is 60% engine, 100% pedal is 100% engine. With Tow/Haul pedal % = engine %, and this was the way the 2007-2013 Tundras were too. So it takes less pedal distance to get the same response with tow/haul engaged.

 

If you're digging the Tow Haul button, pick up the Pedal Commander. I have one on my 2019 Pro and it lets you adjust the throttle response from mild to wild. It doesn't add any horsepower, just removes any lag when you mash the gas pedal.

 

So is it bad to drive with it on most of the time?

 

Highly doubtful, just would likely drink more fuel and wear the tires more. And the Tundra TC is so quick to respond to wheelspin having the extra throttle response doesn't put you at risk of loosing the back end in slippery situations.

 

I use tow/haul frequently. Maybe it’s just me but it seemed the more I used it on my ‘19 Pro, the stronger the truck got. Just got over the 1000 mile mark on my ‘21 Pro and I plan to use tow/haul often in it too. It’s not going to hurt anything but gas mileage and I can live with that...for now. If gas goes up to $4-$5/gal which I think is likely that may change, but I doubt it.

 

I just hit 1000 miles on Wednesday. Congrats. I think I’m gonna have to start using this.
