Show me your mid travel setups!

I just purchased a 2006 DC, I know that its harder to find aftermarket parts for 05-06. Could somebody share some photos of what they've done to their rigs?

 

What is a mid travel setup? Just upper control arms and coilovers? If so that is what most on hear run.

 

yeah basically lol. Ive had my fair share of bilsteins and just wanted to see something else. Maybe get some ideas for my new build.

 

I never liked that term, it implies being somewhere between stock(travel) and long travel. You might gain an inch or so of travel but its still a weird thing to call it. The truth is these coilovers ride around half way through the travel cycle and thats where the name comes from.


Well, I don't recommend my coilvers at all. Camburg upper arms I do recommend if you want uniballs. Spindle gussets, take em or leave em, I don't think they support much. I don't have pics of my rear end but you can find them in my build thread.

 

Yeah, as Black Wolf suggested, look through the 1st gen build threads. There aren’t as many first gen builds(yet) as later gens, but just about anybody on here willing to post pics to your thread, probably has a build thread, and therefore, is gonna refer you there.

Check @Casper421 ‘s thread. Probably my favorite mid-travel 1st thread build, because I like overland builds. Another that’s a fun mid-travel thread is @Swalters ”Drift” build.

If you’re thinking about Icon, red up about the differences between ‘progressive’ and ‘digressive’ shocks. Figure out how you’ll mostly use your truck (big bumps, little bumps, fast, slow, pavement or dirt, weighed down or prerunner, towing or not), how much weight you’ll carry in the bed. Once you share that, you can get more helpful direction. Without that, it’s only about looks.

 

Not as many 1st gen builds but some nice nice ones.

If "mid travel" means under 3 inches, then Icon and King are the high end then toytec for coilovers. Old man Emu and Bilstein 6112 are just below that, then Bilstein 5100.

If mid travel means new knuckles, control arms, cv axle extensions, etc... then not many options and lots of money.

 

Camburg arms and Kings I picked up used. Havnt gotten lotta use yet but so far so good. Little stiff but I think once ai build the front bumper and get some weight up there itll help. Also I forget how stiff everything is having DD'd my Long Travel Taco for the previous decade.

 

I always wonder if I should have gone king but I keep seeing that word...

 

I also havmt played with shock PSI or anything and have no idea if the coils are a higher springrate than most run. Also while they seem stiff at times there is no doubt the ride quality is better than stock or a lot of other options.

I hold any judgment against them until after i can tune the front end with the seemingly needed additional weight.

Again, it is hard to get a feel when my comparisons for the last 10 years have been a Long Travel (with Kings) Taco and a Tc. Makes you forget how stiff trucks normally are when you dont drive one regularly.

 

I see most people in here are running Icon's. But I'll put my hat in the ring with my Toytecs Coilovers and remote shocks. I got the boss kit which came with new coilovers that had Eibach springs and Bilstien shocks, their boss shock with remote reservoir for the rear. It also came with a Deaver 3 leaf progressive add a leaf and 1 in aluminum spacers to drop the diff. all that came out to ~$1800 if I remember right. So far I have been super happy with it all. I'm not super stoked on the customer service though. I stripped one of the top hats because I just monkeyed it on. and I've called them like 7 times since thanksgiving and I still don't have a replacement part. All the other top hat bolts have been fine, I was just stupid. 6/10 would recommend. (No arms yet tho. looking at the solo motor sport MT kit. comes with uca, new spindle, and king shocks.)

Thats one terrible day. I've heard those old Toytecs had problems

 

They have changed designs a lot of times. I ran one of their iterations for over a year without trouble.

 

Yep, thankfully the coil flexed in rather than out. This happened after about a year or so ago and I replaced the shock body. I personally don't hold much confidence for them off the pavement anymore which is what my truck is for.

 

yeah besides that bolt problem they are great. But I'm already looking to maybe upgrade to their new fancy aluma series stuff. Or what would you recommend.

I mean a good looking set of kings on a pre runner makes me a little stiff.

 

Hard for me to say. I replaced mine with Fox and they're nothing but trouble, I can't recommend them to anybody.

Icon are good on first gens but not everybody likes the ride from digressive valving. King seems pretty good.

I've been looking at solo motorsports MT kit.

but I don't want to pay for the lower uniball conversion ($850) so I need to find out if I can fit 2000 - 03 LCA's on instead ($200) and new bushings in them. how could I not try to fit those on.
