Thank you, really appreciate you taking the time to explain how you tapped into the system for the LED light. The learning on this forum is top notch, with so many people willing to share their great ideas.

Started something else with the grille lights. Installed some cheapo RGB DRLs hidden behind the grille. Wouldn’t recommend using these as DRLs. The blinkers are horrible. I peeled off the trash dbl sided tape included, and used 3M stuff. Then covered with Gorilla clear tape. I really didn’t want to drill holes for zip ties, as this was an experiment. After installing the grille, I wired them into my step lights.

Here’s a write-up on my CN Designs molded-in switch plate...Before paint. Tell me what you think. Everything in my interior has been sprayed matte black, but I’m thinking that would be boring for this piece. Really thinking about spraying it Blue Ribbon for that shine, but it’s just gonna glare in my face when the damn sun hits it.
    C8185B56-0363-4B0F-ACEC-33FD84418F7B.jpg
I started with a CN Design cardholder switch plate. He only deals on Facebook. You can find him there.
    CF7E74F1-2CC9-4241-89DE-FBDE81CD78E9.jpg
You’ll need Bondo glass, Glazing putty, high build primer, and sandpaper.
    image.jpg
Start by sanding everything with 150g. Inside all cracks and crevices, and sand the texture off. Then tape off the edges of the shift surround and switch plate.
    44587384-580F-4CD9-B98B-0595CF9EE7E6.jpg
Spread the plastic bonder epoxy into the cracks. These areas need to be sanded first so the epoxy and bondo sticks. The epoxy will provide strength so the patches don’t crack later. Pull the tape, and after the epoxy dries, sand the epoxy with 150g until the shine is gone.
    88BD4857-1DAB-44F7-9D3F-F45B513929CF.jpg
Once sanded, tape off the inside of each switch receptacle, and prepare the bondo glass. About a tablespoon at a time, with a pea sized amount of hardener. Mix well, and apply to the low spots. I used a homemade plastic spatula. Doesn’t need to be perfect, you’ll be doing a few coats.
    878C19CE-06B5-441E-BF40-75AFAADEB8CB.jpg
Sand with a block and 150g. Avoid sanding into the plastic, keep as much of the original integrity of the assembly as you can.
You’ll be able to see the low spots. I just kept adding more bondo glass until I had no low spots. Keep the edge lines as straight as you can using the block sander.
    32F8D161-3871-4670-BB21-BF15E9DDD47E.jpg 237B7B20-4A56-49F1-A932-B95D72A98A39.jpg 3D27CF3C-16D2-4B51-8851-91358CE124EA.jpg B04BF041-68A7-419C-96AF-91E5E3A90CBC.jpg
Time for the high build primer. This will show you all your imperfections. This is two coats. You can see the pinholes and missed spots I have in the piece.
    B931D951-ABB7-4279-9AF6-DF85CCF78228.jpg 1E074E80-D56B-4CD0-B2CB-22D6B4A972F1.jpg 28281D43-0D7D-4E7D-9CCD-C524C848D428.jpg
Also check out the edges. As straight as possible, still needs a little touch up with the block sander.
    23379137-52D8-4366-A7AB-305EEF1BF8D8.jpg 1C5EB6C2-08B2-45D9-A0A0-3D4937DA88FE.jpg
Using the glazing putty and your finger, apply the putty to each pinhole and missed spots like mosquito bites and calamine.
    B364D311-8E6E-4AB6-89DA-290062FDDC8B.jpg
Block sand again, and repeat the primer and glazing putty. Primer again and sand with 220. This is where I stopped for now. Still needs a ghost coat and wet sanding. I’ll continue that in a separate write-up.

What’s up bro! Flat doesn’t really work with that color. I tried it, it looks dull. The flake is what makes it, really.

Maybe a charcoal gray with some blue ribbon accents?

I agree that it being black would just blend in with everything. I get not wanting to be blinded so a gray with some blue is middle ground! Excited to see what you do.

So I never showed the finish on this thread for the shift surround. Went with black for now.

What paint and clear coat are you using for the color match? I have a Blue Ribbon metallic and am planning on painting the mirror caps, etc.

I use paint from Automotive Touchup. Then I use 2 stage clear using a hvlp sprayer from an automotive paint shop.

Here’s the mock up of the on board compressor mount I put together. Pretty sturdy, ran out of daylight to run a vibration test with the new compressor attached. Still need to rewire the compressor and replace the air fittings. I’ll be installing a permanent air nozzle in the rear bumper, so I can just run a hose from the rear to each tire to air up after offroading. The rewiring of the compressor is for a pressure switch to be installed so the compressor doesn’t run continuously while sitting. For now the switch will remain under the hood, but will be added later in the cab with a relay.

2nd step, removed the japanese fittings from the compressor and replaced with 1/4” npt. Added a pressure switch and wired directly to the compressor, so I don’t have to keep turning the compressor off between tires. Just need to run the air line to the rear bumper fitting now.

Finished up the on-board compressor. Ran the air line to the rear bumper so I don’t have an air line hanging out from the hood when I air up. Pressure switch keeps the compressor running only when air is needed. Pop the hood for cooling the compressor, hit the switch, attach the line to the bumper and air up. Done. Decided against the in-cab switch, since I gotta pop the hood anyway. This Smittybilt 2781 compressor fills up the tires so fast. Highly recommended!!

Making things even easier. I installed an in-cab switch for the compressor. 5D433DDD-EC53-41E9-90BE-82ABD7B1E5A6.jpg

DIY under seat storage finished until Raptor liner goes on. Lights come on with dome lights. Storage with lids for the dogs to sit in the back. Made from 3/4” ply for the top and lids, 1/2” for the box walls, 1/4” for box floors. Bottom was also primed and painted to avoid absorbing trapped mousture. It’s worth it! I’ve used it twice so far after off-roading. Easily one of my favorite mods.
