Oh yeah, those two look great as well. I just pulled a pic at random. Didn't pay attention to the trim. LOL. I can't get myself to like Chevy's front end. It always reminds me of this guy.

I am excited for the 2022 Tundra.

My 18 Platinum is a fantastic truck that meets my needs, but I’m also not blind to the fact of how similar it is in so many ways to my 2010 Rock Warrior (both of which were a great leap from my 01).

Between the interior and rear coil suspension of the Rams, the ZF8 and 10spd transmissions from Ram and Ford / GM, the 6.2L GM and Ford PowerBoost motors, and the multitude of attractive packages (tremor, rebel, AT4 / Trailboss, RST, midnight,... not even counting Raptor and TRX). The current batch of domestic half tons are putting out some great products. Competition is great for every industry, and Toyota has a well established bar to meet in a lot of categories.

Toyota has done an admirable job of keeping the current Tundra relatively competitive for the last decade and a half. I truly hope they pull a 2007 2nd Gen Tundra again where they meet or beat the industry benchmarks.

We have 6 1500 Denali's at work and I drive them from time to time. They ride really really nice. I have also rode in a 1500 GMC AT4 and it was as smooth as butter. They ride very very well also for a truck.

I almost bought a 6.2L Trail Boss, but hanging out at the GM trucks forum for a while convinced me otherwise. Sure was fun to drive though.

Automotive generations are defined by the engineers’ model codes, not by someone who writes for the online “press room” of a giant multinational corporation.

Either the person who threw that page up made an error that never got fixed, or they think it’s better press for Toyota to call the facelift/refresh of a 14-year model run a new gen since so many others are referring to it that way anyway. It does not trump the model codes set by the design engineers.

I just traded my 2020 crewmax SR5 for a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation with 3.0L Duramax. Cab space is the same and has a lot of storage under the seats and behind them. The Duramax is a monster. It pulls hard and I got 31mpg on the freeway. I could barely get 16mpg with the tundra on a good day with tail winds. I also tow a 5000lb trailer 2-3x a week.20201229_153447.jpg 20210101_114731.jpg 20210101_114811.jpg 20210104_132017.jpg

Nice truck, and WOW at that economy. Insane for 30mpg plus with a full size crew half ton. Still 4x4?

I think once the 2022 is out, many will switch over and enjoy it.

I think, the whole V8 value is overstated. While there is always enthusiasts looking for one. No one is going to pay big money for one. It’s going to go for more for sure, instead of let’s say $2k, it would be $4k. Not like someone is paying a brand new TRD pro prices for an old V8 4Runner, let a V8 Tundra which have huge volume manufactured from 2000 to 2021. It’s not going to be the Mkiv Supra of trucks.

I'm not so sure. In 2013 when I was shopping for a new truck, I ended up with an F150 with the 5.0L specifically because it was NOT the Ecoboost. As hard as the engine pulls, literally everyone I know/knew who had a truck with the Ecoboost had several recalls, and two of them had major issues, not to mention other things they had to deal with (brake issues, intercooler weep hole drilling, etc.)

Additionally, it was kind of funny to watch them buy the Ecoboost for towing *and* gas mileage...only to find out that while it towed easier, gas mileage was easily worse than with a V8.

All things being equal, I wouldn't pay more for a V8, but I'd sure choose one over a TT, simply because it's simpler. I mean, this whole forum is loaded with people who have chosen the Tundra over many other trucks for this very same reason - it might be some older tech, but it's also more reliable tech.

An online forum can call it anything they want. It doesn’t mean it’s true. The link above was the first I’ve seen an official Toyota site call it 3rd gen. But Terndrerrr explained that.

I think people chose Tundra for Toyota reliability rather than just because of the V8. All the companies have V8s.

Toyota has reliable “new” technology as well. Hybrids and turbo engines. Turbo is not new to Toyota and their turbo engines were very strong and reliable. Some say over 900hp on stock internals.

I just heard that they're going to continue making the V8 and that the turbo v6 will be offered in the upper levels

I really like the looks of the GMC, they did a really nice job.

I guess later this year I read they are doing large upgrade to the interior for the 2022 model out in late 2021.

I sure how Toyota comes out with something competitive and not just hey its reliable. I guess Im kinda bitter at the moment about that one, still have had my truck in over a week now, its sitting at the dealer.

this would be the ticket IMO

refresh teh 5.7 or punch it to 6.2, and then offer the TT hybrid 6 for the others.

I would like a 5.7 or 6.2 V8 with similar numbers and performance as the GM.

I think it was that much on 2020s, but according to build sheets it is only $995 for 2021 models. I may well be driving one in 12 months, nearly pulled the trigger on a black AT4 with the 3.0 before the end of the year. Waiting on Toyota to show me something special. If so, I'll hold off to 2023 or 2024 model year for the Toyota.

There is no way the 2022 is going to have gear ratio over 4, MPG standards will be too difficult. My understanding of it is that with a 8 or 10 speed transmission it would be technically the same, just as long as they don’t go crazy and keep it in the high 3’s.

A lot of people are down on the idea of a TT V6 and keep referencing the Ecoboosts. Just seems like Toyota can make a more reliable version, but I guess only time will tell.
