Hey y'all, any other skiers or snowboarders on the site? With all the folks in the NW and in Colorado, I'm sure there are some!

I just got back from a week in SLC. We skied Solitude, Deer Valley, Alta, and Snowbird. Alta and Snowbird ROCKED! We're going to Steamboat in February. We usually only get one week of skiing a year (I live on the Gulf Coast) but we got lucky this year. My kids are in college now and no longer get Mardi Gras week off, so we went right after Christmas. We're going again with the friends we usually go with in February.

Nice! Grew up skiing Jackson, WY. Lived in CO for a bit and skied Breck, Vail, Snowmass semi-regularly. I've skied Alta once and loved it. Planning a short trip back to SLC this year and may ski Park City for a few days. What's the status up there? Covid restrictions? Reservations needed?

I gave up a few years back after tearing my ligament coming off the lift onto a sheet of ice with my snowboard. That and just getting too old for it.

Before then I was an avid snowboarder.

We had the Ikon Pass which doesn't include Park City. But that mountain is so huge I doubt reservations are needed, but you can check on their web site. The snow base is low for this time of year so you have to watch out for rocks, especially on blacks but even on some blues. You have to wear a mask inside and in the lift lines, but otherwise it's normal. My preference was to stay away from others as much as possible anyway.

Grew up less that 30 min from the lifts at Schweitzer in N. Idaho. Started snowboarding in 1987 - when most mountains wouldn’t even let us on. My Senior year of HS, I had more than 60 days on the snow (graduated in January just so I could ride the entire rest of the season).

Now it’s a long 2+ hour drive to go play on some Cascade Concrete and I was absent from the sport for about 10 years. My girls are getting into it now (they are 19 and 17), so I’ve had a season passes to Timberline/Skibowl the past two years with them. I want badly to get out to Utah and Colorado but would feel bad going without them and they need to get a bit better first. Maybe next year. Also looking at getting into splitboarding too.

My first time up this year. I’m still riding my 1995 K2 Eldorado 169 (the Clicker boots are long since gone though).

Sorry to hear about the torn ligament. But the guys I ski with are 20 years older than I am, and I'm in my 50's. They are also MUCH more experienced, and better skiers than I am. That said, I have to work harder every year to get my legs ready.

EXTREMELY JEALOUS!!! I've skied 5-6 days/yr since I started about 10 years ago. I figure I'm doing pretty good to be able to handle the blacks I can with only about 60 days of skiing experience total!

Cool, but why didn't you get your girls into it sooner? You probably had your reasons.

I got a new pair of skis last year, Nordica Enforcers. They must be pretty popular because I saw a bunch of them on the mountain last week. All I know is that they ski GREAT!

I went skiing for the first time last month, and I can’t wait to go again! Went to Wolf Creek in Pagosa Springs, CO. It was a blast, hit up mostly greens and about five or six blues, but I have a good bit of learning to do before I’ll be comfortable.

I tried when they were about 6 and 8, along with my wife. My wife and snow are like oil and water, and my little ones just didn’t really have interest. Combine that with the cost of lift tickets (Mt. Hood Meadows was $48/day back then), gear (for growing kids no less), and what a pain it can sometimes be to get there from our house, and it just wasn’t in the cards.

Then in 2018, we had a foreign exchange student for the year and she skied. So we rented a house in Sun River for Christmas and I took all three girls up to Mt. Bachelor for Christmas Day and another day later that week and got my two at least managing their way down the greens. They also have a bunch of friends that are into it now, so suddenly it was cool that Dad is an old-school shredder.

I’ll never forget my first time on a “real” mountain - night skiing on Musical Chairs (bunny slope at Schweitzer). Fourth run down and a little kid cut in front of me, I caught an edge and went forward into my right shoulder and broke my collar bone. I was already hooked...a week later I was back up there with my arm in a sling trying it again.

My first board looked like this, but with a white deck... (picture stolen from a Google search)

Awesome! Catch the bug! You don't have to travel quite as far as I do to ski, but it's not a last minute road trip for you either. Our ski weeks are the highlight of my year, and have been since I started about 10 years ago!

Yeah, it does get expensive quickly. Military discounts help but shopping for good deals helps even more. We wanted to go to Big Sky, MT this year but found that they are WAY too proud of their mountain, at least for the week we went.

And it is surely nice when Dad is cool for ANY reason, right?

Nice. Solitude is our favorite since vail bought up park city and canyons. A nice little affordable place if you’re coming from the south is brianhead. I started boarding a long time ago an a burton cruise 165.

I like Alta and Snowbird much better than Solitude. But I only skied Solitude for one day, and that day was overcast and the snow base was thin.

It’s hard for me to be enthusiastic about it here in the northeast when we deal with hard packed snow, slush or ice for skiing conditions. If we had real powder, I might be more inclined to go.

I’ve been skiing since I was like 4 years old. Skied just about everywhere in North America. Favorites are Whistler, Big Sky. Haven’t been in the last few years my back finally caught up with me (several herniated discs). Never skied in Europe or S. America - it’s on the bucket list.

Wife, kid and I got two days in at Mary Jane last weekend. Hit some rocks and stumps, but overall not bad. We spend most of our time at Copper.

I try to get out a few times a year in Ohio and surrounding areas. Seven Springs & Snowshoe are the main places. Haven’t been able to get out yet this winter though. Gonna change that soon

Awesome! Park City (actually the Canyons) was where I learned and will always feel like home! I always lose about 8-10 lbs during the week I am skiing. Have fun!

I'm jealous about the growing up skiing. I only started in my early 40's. There are things I would have learned if I were younger, but I have to be too careful now! Sorry to hear about your back though.

SERIOUSLY?!? What a life! I am sure there are parts that are not as enjoyable, but the skiing HAS to make up for it! What are you? An instructor? Ski Patrol?

General Manager for a small midwest ski area. And, yes certified bike and ski instructor and national ski patrol but those are more of a hobby at this point. When my season ends in March I like to head to Big Sky for a week or two of purely play time.
