I have a 2010 Rock Warrior CM. Non Navi head unit. No camera in tailgate handle.
What would be my best option for adding backup camera?
Aftermarket head unit and aftermarket tailgate handle with camera?
Aftermarket rear view mirror and aftermarket tailgate handle/camera?
Is the truck pre-wired for either of these options?
I would like a new head unit with apple CarPlay of that helps :)
    Thanks!

The truck should be pre wired for the camera. You'll have to add the little harness from behind the rear bumper up and into the tailgate, add the Toyota tailgate handle with the camera, then add the drop down camera that goes in the overhead console. You can see the parts here:
    https://tailgatecamera.com/collecti...e-backup-camera-and-lcd-monitor-for-2007-2013

If you have any desire to put in a different head unit, an aftermarket setup will cost less and give you a far larger screen.

Added the Masters tailgate handle / camera from Amazon, $100. Coupled to Pioneer NEX8100. Works great.
Masters assembly comes with wire to run up to the HU. Had local install shop do the install for like $150.

I like it a lot. For the price, it cannot be beat and is very compact so you can add an external amp behind it. I ran brand new wires. Easier than trying to figure out Toyota harness.
the alpine HU has the option for a second camera input so I might add one to the front.

I did a good bit of research and ordered coolint? (I think) Rearview mirror and camera - each one separately. I drilled a hole in the tailgate handle. Works perfect.

If you want to avoid the overhead console for the reverse signal, you an tap into it behind the headunit in one of the wiring bundles. Just pop open the back cover and tap your wire there. I did this same install in my Tundra with the Alpine radio. I wanted to be able to use the backup camera whenever I'd like as well as when the truck goes into reverse.

That is the route I would prefer. Do you remember which wire it was?

It wasn't a wire; it was a light grey bundle that is taped to the dash support bar. Here's a picture of it from when I did my install: https://www.tundras.com/threads/backup-camera-wiring-through-tailgate.77256/page-2#post-1966452

Use a multimeter with the continuity test to verify that it sees voltage only when you put it in reverse. It will be the series of 3 metal posts there. I stuck the backup sensing wire for the aftermarket wiring harness on this set of "posts" and closed the plastic lid and taped it really good.

Awesome. Thank you. Would solder be a better solution? Is it accessible enough for that?

You can remove the plug with the flap on it and solder to the metal behind the flap. Just be quick because the heat transfers into the metal and will start melting the plastic.

I thought about soldering the wire to it but I was concerned about heating up the plastic around it, so I just taped it directly one the set of 3 posts in that connector and then taped the flap back on the wire harness itself.

my 08 SR5 didn't come with a back up camera, if I get the tailgate handle with camera, is the truck already pre-wired?

My 2007 SR5 was pre-wired. I did the homelink mirror with the tailgatecamera.com plug and play tailgate handle. If you look under the rear of your truck there should be a connector in the rear close to the bumper on the passenger side that has a cap on it instead of a connector for the rear view camera. Its white IIRC.

Sweet, I'll be pulling the rear bumper off this weekend to replace with a new one so I'll have a look around.
