I installed it yesterday, I have only driven once so far and I give it a B (A+ being best) at this point. I love the sound whether you get on it a little, low growl, to stomp on it and unleash the fury, a nice mean growl. The reason for the B is I do notice a funky drone kind of sound around 1800 rpms. I want to see if it goes away or gets worse as it breaks in. I drove it on some city streets and then on the highway to experience the whole array of sounds.
Installation went well, it took me (by myself) an hour and a half. By the way all stock nuts/bolts, the nuts are welded in place so forget trying to unscrew a nut, yes I found out the hard way. I think I used 12,14 and 15 sockets. Going back with Borla, everything was size 15 which I liked, one size for everything.
I’m not sure what to think of the “gaskets” Toyota is using in their exhaust. I will post a picture. Thankfully the ones on the cat pipes stayed intact as you are to re-use them. When I saw what happened to the one at the back end of the stock muffler I said yikes!!!
    Picture time.

I like a little bit of chrome, so I love the tips. (Side note, I added the red Tundra inserts and 4x4)

The dreaded gaskets I mentioned it’s basically a spring? long thin metal strip spiraled around itself, the one below is the one that was on the back end of the stock muffler that popped apart. I’m so glad the ones on the cat pipes stayed together.

The bolts on the flange behind the cat are a 15.

At the moment I don’t have pictures looking back at the whole system. I will take some and add them later.

Well, the drone is not going to go away. Tundras drone. There is even some light drone in the stock exhaust. As far as changing tone and drone after the system is run for a while- that will depend on the muffler used in the Borla system. If it is straight thru or baffled, the sound will not change much if any. If it is a muffler with some sort of packing material inside then yes, those typically do deepen or increase in volume slightly after repeated hot and cooling cycles over a thousand miles or so. The only no drone exhaust I know of is the DD systems, and that is because they include a resonator to be installed on the tailpipe to eliminate the drone.

The good news is that if the drone gets to be too much you can contact Keith at Dirtydeeds, he can make you a set of resonators (one for each tailpipe) to get rid if the drone.

Well I have been driving it for a few days and the more I drive it the more I love it. I think I may have been overly critical on my first review of it because of a bad experience with a Chevy in the past. So I was looking for a drone. Now that it’s been a few days I have forgotten about it and I just love the sound when I get on it. So my gas mileage and wallet are paying for it.

The last picture makes it look close to the spare tire but, if you look at the one above you’ll see there’s space. I was trying to show the hanger bracket that was added to the driver’s side and the route of the pipe.
Some lift kits with longer shackles warn about interference with exhaust. You see in that last picture that a longer shackle would push the leaf springs down closer to the exhaust.

I met up with Skip, a member on here, last night so he could hear it. We drove around some city streets. He liked it. I’m sure he will chime in at some point.

Looks good and thanks for the review. I considered the Borla for my truc but ultimately went with the TRD system. If was to do it over again I would go with the Borla.

I really appreciate Joe meeting up with me last night to allow me to see and hear the Borla exhaust. To me exhaust sounds are subjective so you have to hear it in person to really appreciate it. I'm not into the loud systems and was wanting something on the quieter side yet still have a nice deep throaty sound. I was considering the TRD exhaust but am now leaning towards Borla. Hopefully I can pull the trigger in the next couple of weeks. A big thanks to Joe for his time. It looks and sounds great!

Glad you are liking the system. Borla makes a quality exhaust. Feel free to post some sound clips.

I installed the same system on my ‘18 CM. I love it. It does make more noise than the stock, but I wouldn’t really call it a drone. If you want to hear a real drone go to the dealer and test drive one with the TRD exhaust. Also, it gets a little louder as it “breaks in.”

Exactly why I added an h-pipe to my TRD exhaust. Seems to have eliminated the drone but then I haven't driven it much since adding the h-pipe.
