Adding CarPlay/Android Auto for older 3rd Gens using GROM Audio

Was curious if anyone here has used the GROM auto system to upgrade there existing unit to have Android Auto/CarPlay.

I've been contemplating it since I would really like to have Android Auto without ditching the factory unit or having to do something more drastic with the system.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but did you ever end up getting one of these? Just found out about it from a guy that got one for is 2008 Lexus and loves it

 

I have it installed in 2008 Lexus LX 570 and 2017 Tundra. Works terrific. The only issue I have is sometimes the backup camera is distorted in the Tundra. No rhyme nor reason to it. I’ve been working with Grom t o fix.

Yep. You can switch back and forth to stock as well. I’m very pleased with it.

 

How hard is this to install?

 

It will depend on your expertise. I feel like if I could do it pretty much anyone can. Instructions from GROM are fairly generic, but straightforward. I believe they have some videos on their website. You have to pull the head unit and attach wire harnesses. Run gps antennae wire and microphone wire. Then find a place to hide and mount the GROM unit.
