Thinking about switching out the deck in my Tundra. It is an SR5 with the JBL logo on the door speakers. I'm not much of an audiophile, but would like to have the ability to play books on tape and bluetooth for the phone. I have 2 questions:

    1) Does anyone know if there are any later model Toyota OEM stereos that are plug and play that add streaming and/or bluetooth? If so, what years/models...?

    2) Are there any non-factory systems that don't require bypassing the JBL amp?

    Thanks in advance.

Update: I did find post regarding the GTA Car Kit, which sounds like a great option if no OEM replacement is available.

I use the GTA kit; a little pricey but works well.

Are you happy with the GTA call quality when hands free? I've had 2 cars with factory hands free that my wife mostly drove. The first was on a '14 Subaru and it was terrible--poor call quality and could barely carry on a conversation when she was driving. The next car, Honda Passport, works great.

I was in the same place as you. These units work great, if you're happy with the sound now and just want to have some modern audio in the truck, then these units will offer an inexpensive solution. They play micro sd cards, stream Bluetooth from your phone and also do hands free phone calling. Just tune your FM radio into a weak station in your area, tune the FM transmitter to the same frequency, pair the device and Bob's your uncle. I have 2 Nulaxy brand ones and they have been 100% for the last 3 or 4 years. cheers.

The folks I talk with have no problems hearing me nor do I have any problems hearing them. The only problem I've had is about every 3rd start up it wont automatically connect. But it takes about 10 seconds to fix. Just go on your phone, disconnect the connection and re-connect.

The USB out from the GT Kit does not have enough power for a fast charge but works fine for a normal USB charging station. I have not used the AUX out though one is also provided. Hooking it up took about 15 minutes; really easy. I can also use my steering wheel controls if you have those.

You will need the CD Changer plug on the back of the radio for the unit to work. Then just put your radio on CD and BAM, it works.

It is a little pricey compared to other BT options but I like how clean it is and that I can still use my steering wheel controls to answer / hang up the phone, move between songs and control the volume. It also works great with WAZE - it'll talk thru the speakers...

My New Year Day project was to install an updated stereo in our 03 Stepside Limited. I purchased through Crutchfield and got a Pioneer DMH-1500NEX. Our goal was Apple CarPlay/Android Auto in the unit. I comes with a microphone you have to route as the factory radio doesn't have that feature. I didn't cut or splice any wires going this route so if we ever wanted to go back to factory look we can. However, when we bought the truck just before Christmas it had a Sony single din unit in there that was pretty crappy.

Here is a picture of our truck and the radio after the install:

Ordered a full setup from Crutchfield last week that's coming today. New front woofers and tweeters, rear door speakers, and a new Apple CarPlay head unit. Will be my project this week for my last week off for a while. Where did you route the mic to? :)

I clipped it to the plastic molding on the a-pillar, down the a-pillar, under the driver side kick panel, under the carpet, and up the center stack of the hvac controls. All hidden and out of sight.

Looks great. Did a similar install on my 2000, routed the microphone in the same manner. No complaints on call quality from me or the other party. Also, love that there's a BFH in the floor board for a stereo install
