    UPDATED: 09/27/22 09/13/2022

It’s a bit late for me to start a build thread but since I’m doing a re-build I figure now is better than later.

I purchased my 2016 SR5 brand new in October of 2016. By November it was lifted and had big wheels and tires. At the time I did not know which direction I was taking my truck. It started off big and mean on pavement but over time it craved more dirt, more rocks, and more obstacles.

This re-build is now focused to take on the Rubicon Trail in 2021 2022 (postponed due to failures in the front diff and CV axles, along with forest fires) May 2022 with little to no bypasses – my biggest concern is fitting through Old Sluice without body damage.

So I successfully completed the Rubicon Trail in May 2022. Here's my hodgepodge writeup of it:

This is such an awesome truck! The camera system is something I have never seen the likes of before. @Cruzer you should definitely post up more specs of your set up!

I've got a How To rough draft on the multi-camera system. I'm waiting for the new bumpers so that I can finish installing the rest of the cameras and finalize the document. You and the crew will be the first to know.

I committed to buy mine super early in the design phase through Erick at state48. Preordered in July and it was delivered in late December early January. Demello and Erick kept me up to date the entire time and even reached out to offer me free sliders for the wait. Great dudes over there. I believe they are at a 8 week production time now, totally worth the wait, craftsmanship is top notch.

Went wheelin the other day but today I just noticed that my front passenger fender was damaged. Upon inspection it turns out that my sliders flexed and pushed up the fender o_O

I love these Demello Rock Crusher sliders but I am a bit disappointed. Gonna have to take them off and get additional support braces welded on. Something like this:

What options do Tundra owners have for transfer cases? Is there a crawler box that I’m not aware of?

None that I'm aware of. I don't think there's much of a market for 2nd gen and up Tundras crawling.

I got the DAP remote tune back in 2017 and it performed great. However, after re-gearing to 5.29s the DAP tune shift points were way off - computer thought I was red lining at 5500 rpms. The DAP shop was willing to work with me for about 2 weeks and then they just stopped replying to my emails altogether. Almost 2 months of no response I finally decided to just revert to my original ECU programming and get rid of the DAP Tune.

Hate to hear that! I am running the DAP tune as well and have plans to re-gear in the distant future. May have to start looking into this one or alternative tunes.

Don't know how far you are from Houston but if you go to their shop you can get re-tuned. It was quite scary when I first realized there was a problem with the tune. I was trying to pass a car on a 2 lane road, I floored it, then near 5500 rpms the rev limiter kicked in and bogged the engine down while I was right next to the car I was trying to pass. I had to let off the pedal for the engine to recover and then gently re-accelerate.

I'm not far from Houston. I had mine done near Dallas though, I believe that's his shop unless he has one in Houston also or another tuner in Houston.
Yea, im sure that sucked to learn at that moment though!

I hammered it out and traded one obvious ding for one that is less obvious :D

Afterwards, I looked around my truck some more and I've come to the true realization that metal is not strong without proper support. My rear bumper has taken quite the beating. The left and right wings now curve up - my truck looks like it has a weird grin from the back. I can't wait to get my new high clearance bumper on, hopefully it's as bulletproof the shop claims it to be.

Got the Victory4x4 fuel tank skid today. I took off the RCI skid plate (@Trdwillie14 ) for a side by side comparison. The Vicotry4x4 skids are thicker, heavier, and should protect the gas tank better by bolting onto the frame. Now I just need to find some time to install it without the gf knowing ;)

Nice, and thanks for helping me spend mo money. I am not thrilled with the RCI mounting either.
