Honestly, if you don't need to pull over 6k buy a 4Runner and a 5x10 cargo trailer for when you need a truck. I have a 5th gen 4runner and a Tundra but the Tundra is for pulling our tt which is about 8400k loaded. 4Runner for everthing else.

Ah, misunderstood, thought it was too much drone already which I know it certainly isn't loud, my TRD drowns out the Ram when both are together.

Good luck on the search for a better one, I have no interest in modding the wife's Ram, I barely trust it so I don't need to be adding anything just in case it needs warranty work.

my neighbor has a rebel. It is a muffled sound, but i wouldn’t call it no sound. I can hear when he fires up his truck and i can hear him take off when he hits the street behind our houses. Honestly sounds really good and smooth

with the hemi, drone is caused by removing the resonators.

corsa and borla are typically the exhaust systems with the least amount of drone.

the borla will be a bit more rambunctious of an exhaust whereas the corsa is subdued but offers the least amount of drone of the two.

    https://www.corsaperformance.com/co...1035-sport-sound-level?variant=27863161962582

    https://www.borla.com/products/ram-1500-cat-back-exhaust-system-140752bc

sound is personal but i prefer borla for the hemi. i had them in my SRT charger and challenger.

Coming from a 4Runner I will say this is a valid point. However, the Tundra is much funnier to drive and much more comfortable. The tiny interior and wimpy 4.0 is very uninspiring. The MPG is nothing to write home about on the Runner either. Get the Tundra and you won’t have to upgrade later.

If he wants to turn it off just tell him to press the “ - “ button on the right side of the steering wheel and then press the “ + “ button until the display on the bottom right of the dash shows an 8 . That’ll let the transmission shift normally all the way to 8th gear but doesn’t let the MDS kick in .

We camp and ski with close friends with a fancy Ram 1500. Three boys and one is ours. They never want to ride in the Tundra.

I have the Tundra and a Ram. The tundra is a fun daily driver, light truck, small bed. Gets 11mpg. My Ram is 10,000lb, 8' bed, Diesel, towing beast. gets 17mpg. If you do any serious towing, get a Big truck. If you get ANY ram, Be sure its the 3/4 ton with the proven Cummins Diesel.

All jokes aside I have done some major work on a few tundras...so its not to say oh they are just plain reliable. Really taking care of the maintenance on a vehicle is what makes it reliable. Then you take a detuned engine and run it at base line for 100-200k miles and now its reliable. Toyota tacomas were used and abused for years owners think they recycled oil since nobody did maintenance in them they just run them into the ground! Toyota meets an annual base line of sales yearly and does not produce more than the base line can handle to not lose money. Smaller pool of vehicles to gather data on failures and or vehicle issues. If Toyota for example sells 100k trucks and Ram, gm, and ford sell 300k, 400k, 500k respectively and Toyota and all others have nearly equal failures by volume. toyota has a bad batch and 10k produced vehicles have problems and failures from warranty to simple fixes.
10k from 100k is 10%. Now we make it even across the board as 10% failure for each at this fake volume. 10% of each are 30k failures, 40k failures, and 50k failures. Believe it or not the numbers are actually not that far off. Vehicles are getting competitive in a market of reliability and dependability mixed with all the new goodies! Time will tell. Not exactly a die hard any fan but definitely enjoy all types of vehicles. Also this fiscal year gm outsold everyone again not ford, but they of course seperate manufacturers from chev and gmc. But ram by volume trucks is technically second and then ford by a nose. Never realized how many dang trucks are sold yearly!!!

Really good point about the volume of trucks sold, we should expect more issues if you sell 3-4 times as many vehicles.

Toyota can still be more reliable, but most gm and fords are not broken

I think so, but I wanna believe Toyota could try to compete on a slightly more edgy scale while modernizing and maintaining simplicity. Either way love the way vehicles are advancing, hate the way the prices are multiplying exponentially!

regular maint isnt what differentiates turdra reliability from the others. that is a given no matter the manufacturer.

the reliability standard is that of the roughly 10k tundras that are sold each month, very few of them will need work in their lives.

ram, ford, gm, etc cannot make the same statement. take the gmc sierra 1500 for example. more tundras are sold than gmc sierra 1500s per year and several outlets, including consumer reports find that gmc sierra predicted reliability is far lower than that of the tundra. this comes from owners reporting their issues to these outlets.

we do not see equal failures by volume. the only bad batches of tundras on record were the 2007 and 2012 if i remember correctly.

If we're talking Tundra vs GMC 1500:

    2020 Sales:
    Tundra - 109,203
    GMC - 253,016

Not quite 4:1, but yeah, GMC Sierra 1500 outsells the Tundra.

In my city, black dodge rams are everywhere. I saw 3 on my drive into work today.
There is a running stereotype about black dodge ram trucks and their drivers and its pretty spot on.

I had a 2015 Silverado LTZ Dbl Cab 4x4 and I loved that thing. Zero issues and super nice. My dad has had GM trucks for 20 years and the only issue he’s ever had was the 2001 S10 Crew Cab that he bought went through 2 fuel pumps and a rear-end in 8 years. Had a 2015 Denali Sierra 1500 for about 5 years before moving to a Denali Canyon and hasn’t had any issues with either of them.

Same thing in my area all blacked out and if they aren’t black it’s a dark gray or something. Too me all those “black out” “midnight” packages are starting to remind me of iKea furniture. I love the variation of chrome, blacked out emblems, and color (in my case cement) on my truck. Even the wheels are awesome with the black and silver. I did the dark color thing but truthfully it just was not my cup of tea. But it’s not my place to judge and those packages are selling like crazy...

I was very unimpressed with the 5th gen 4Runners towing ability. Typically I would tow about 1.5k and that transmission would gear hunt doing 60 pretty consistently. I did tow in the mountains and for long distances. My 03 3.4 Tacoma didn’t shift as much.

Unless you are only towing local and or Offroad a lot get the Tundra...

Me too I guess , it’s funny but in my area silver and red are the most popular for trucks .
