Put on my Toytec shackles today which I ordered with the poly bushings. The shackles went on "easy" enough, took me over an hour, but easy enough for someone who's not mechanically inclined. However I couldn't get the factory bushings out to save my life. I worked on one for a little while then gave up, and just installed the shackles with the factory bushings.

I guess I just assumed they would pop right out I didn't realize they were pressed in. So how the heck do you get those things out if you don't have a ball joint press or something? I suppose it's fine to leave the factory bushings on for a while and try and swap them out down the road...

They charge you then give money back when you return.

What's the consequence of using the old bushings (1-2 y/o) ?

OEM bushings have teeth that will bind on the the shackles causing damage and premature and unnecessary wear.. Upgraded poly bushings are flat where they touch the shackle-no bind.

Probably a dumb question...but here goes. When you say burn them out are you just using a torch and completely melting away the rubber bushing or heating up the spring eyelet a little to make it easier to beat/press the bushing out?

I have a ball joint press, it doesn't fit. I didn't want to make a big Smokey burning rubber mess, so I made one for less than $10. I found this on another forum, it works great. You will one 1.5" galvanized or black iron tee and one plug. One ft. Of 1/2 inch all thread, three nuts and 3 or 4 fender washers( 1/2 inch hole, just small enough outside diameter to fit inside the eye of the spring. Double nut one end of the all thread, stack enough washers to keep them from bending. Drill a 1/2 inch hole in the pipe plug. Insert the all thread through the bushing and the tee. Tighten the nut while holding the tee in line with the spring eye and keep on cranking. I can snap a couple pics if you want. It's out in my shed.

That's the old bushing hanging out. You'll be sliding the bushing out of the spring into the tee. A piece of pipe the right diameter and length would probably work to.

Watched YouTube videos and made a device and tried borrowing a contraption from canadian tire, no go. Super pissed-off. Ended up melting them and light a small fire under my truck to get the sleeves out now I an stuck trying to get the new ones in. Should have just ordered a new leaf pack!

If you melted the rubber out you still need to remove the outer sleeve. You can use a chisel or punch and just smack it out.

Thanks for the help, got it all wrapped up, mostly just wasted a bunch of time getting the rubber out of the one sleeve when really I could have just cut it out. I did do research before but in everyone else came the bushing just slid out nicely. I suppose 150,000 kms will seize then up pretty good though.

Thanks! I had this tool and it would have worked if I had a couple more bolts. Mine was a 3/8 inch shaft and fit perfectly into the bolts so they just threaded through. But it should have worked haha.
