It would be awesome if they put a true semi-auto option in there, not the current max gear limiting. In reality that's just a fun perk because other than off roading when do you want nicely timed upshifts? I find the current gear limiting to work just fine for downshifts, but upshifts it waits a few seconds.

This is where I hope they take a page out of the Big 3's playbook, kinda. Give us options - buy a TRD Off Road get 4.30 (I'm fine with 3.92) and a rear locker, buy a Platinum and get 3.23 and no locker. Doesn't need to be full out custom like Ford, I get how having fewer options cuts costs, but have different options based on the different trims. Maybe the new top of the line trim can be customized since it'll be a $70k CAD truck.

And I'm thinking they don't need a trans cooler on the new model because they'll be an electric power unit on the rear axle for the big number tow vehicles. How effective that hybrid unit will either make or break the Tundra - if it works awesome they'll get another 10 years from the same powertrain, if not they'll get out of the half ton market

Well most of the world disagrees with you because the Tacoma is still the number one selling mid size truck.

What would you buy, a Ford Ranger?

my wife is a lawyer, ya its not all its cracked up to be most times, especially if your not a partner, they drive you into the ground.

my business started doing well enough that she was able to quit and be a stay at home mom, she was beyond excited to get out of that.

    its not for everybody.

I agree with most of what you said, but the trans having more gears is not bad for towing, its good. it keeps you right in the fat part of the power band. I had a 8 speed ram it was really nice how the trans and rear end worked, I had a 3.92 rear.

the ZF was 4.71 first gear... 4.71 x 3.92!!! that will get the load moving

the ram was shorter in 2nd than the tundra is in 1st, they can do that since they have more in teh middle gears to work with.

The Tundra first is short enough - on casual driving the Tundra starts off from a stop in 2nd quite a lot. It's the mid part where it'll hunt for gears quite a bit more that's the annoying part - and I doubt I'll ever try with the wife's Ram 1500 as it only tows 8k lbs and payload is 1200 because of the 3.21 gears to see how bad it is. If the transmission works well it'll pick the lower gear so as not to hunt as much, but that comes at a penalty of fuel mileage. If I could have the Ram transmission in normal driving, downshifts quick on throttle, and the Tundra in Tow/Haul, it really holds gears almost to a fault but in the hills that's a lot better, I would be quite happy.

ya when I test drove rams, the 3.21 truck just didn't do it for me at all, the 3.92 was a way different truck and then they had a 3.55 mid range option as well

thats the nice thing on those at teh time anyway, you could pick 3.21,3.55, 3.92 so you could get what you like

for me, biggest engine, shortest gears, hehe :burnrubber:

Just for reference, my cousin dumped the POS Chevy Colorado Duramax he was driving for work and replaced it with a Honda Ridgeline...

But, to be fair, he has an F350 PSD if he needs more truck.

It may not be required but it is recommended for best performance in turbo vehicles. Every owner manual or gas cap for a turbo I've ever seen has said either Premium Required or Premium Recommended.

Classic! I was told the same thing coming from a family of doctors, and look what happened. I love being an attorney, and it's part of my identity. Wouldn't trade it for the world. It's a tough path, but a good one.

They both love it and blame me for making them explain:

    A) Why they should not be in time-out.

    or

    B) Why I sent them to time-out.

Apparently that makes up a big part of a lawyers preparation for a case....

The new Colorado has been out for 5 years and the Ranger for 2 years. The Tacoma really hasn't suffered.

Before I got my Tundra I thought I wanted a Tacoma. Test drove a couple and did my research and wasn't impressed. Then I drove a couple of Rangers and I was dead set on getting one. They are great trucks for what they are, and right now, far superior to the Tacoma in nearly every way. My wife actually talked me in to test driving the Tundra. She has a Highlander and we haven't done anything to that thing in 97K miles, and she was pushing me on the Toyota reliability. I'm glad I checked out the Tundra (obviously, I have one now), but I was real close to buying a Ranger. After I sold my 06 Ram 2500 CTD I swore I'd never drive another full-size truck again... but here I am.
