Ordered from Peter Boulware Toyota in Tallahassee so not a small market. I don’t know what the holdup has been. Virus probably has something to do with it. The salesman texted me last week that the truck should be delivered 12/14 so hopefully my wait will be over soon.

As an FSU Alum, I would consider Tally a small/medium market. It's not Ocala small, but it's not Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, or Miami. I'm just assuming larger markets have greater number of allocations, but not a clue how or if that impacts delivery speed. I'm sure you're right about COVID still slowing everything down. Here's to hoping yours on the 14th and mine arrives Jan/Feb...

Talked to dealer and they said dnt have allocation yet. Called couple other dealers and they are claiming allocations for this quarter has been done and no more army green, but my dealer says allocation happens every 2 weeks and they may allocate. Dont know who to believe at this point, started having second thoughts about getting night shade because of all this uncertainty.

The confusion and secrecy around this process is astounding. I was told Saturday that it would probably be a few weeks before they'll have more information on my order, so that would align with the end of the quarter comment you received regarding allocations. It's frustrating that there is never a single clear answer on how this process works.

Hang in there. Mine is supposed to be delivered next Monday , but it took about 10 weeks or so to get the allocation.

It is very frustrating that no one tells you exactly how this process works or offer to give you clear insight on the whole special order process. They just tell you minimal and leave you hanging like if there is a lucky draw every couple of weeks or so and you get your pick from there if you are lucky.

I am already in 7th week since placed order oct 13th. But this whole waiting blindly thing gets frustrating sometimes.
There is ine dealer in san antonio who has been holding onto his army green for abt 20+ days now and dont want to budge from MSRP, i called him today and just reiterated once more if he wanna cut deal im still game but he said MSRP or it will stay here.

That is because there is no such thing as a special order from the Toyota factory. All they are doing is playing the waiting game to see their allocation they are getting from the port and a truck that has the factory built options on it. If something is missing, they add it at the dealer. For example a truck come in and it is an SR5 with the TRD off road and premium package, but missing the bedliner and tube steps, they install at the dealer and call it good.

Toyota is the best at what they do compared to others. They know exactly how many of each trim they sold with what packages. They will build 1k black crew cab limiteds. Then build 300 black double cab Limiteds. Now build 1k black Platinums etc....

In manufacturing, it is very in efficient and not cost effective to build a custom ordered red sr5, then a white double cab limited with certain features.

The other option is to dealer trade allocation from another dealer. Dealers can see what other dealers have and offer a trade. Since inventory is short right now, dealers are not doing this as much and stuck with the inventory they have been allocated.....

These are the reasons it is taking several weeks.

    ^^

Pretty much how it is, the more a dealer sell, the more potential allocation they get.

Salesman texted me yesterday and told me delivery was pushed back to 12/18. I texted back that I was not at all happy about another delay and that I’m close to putting a stop payment on the check I wrote for a deposit and starting all over with another dealership. CRAP!!!!

Super frustrating, man, but I wouldn't give up at this point. See if you can get the dealer to throw in some free items or something. The worst part about the current climate is they don't have to care or work for your business. If you don't buy it, it'll be sold to someone else 2 days after it shows up. Stay the course!

Made an account here just to detail my experience. knoxville36 is correct, there's no such thing as a "special order", and it's not very nice of them to never tell you that.

I "placed an order" 9 weeks ago from today, for a red limited doublecab. A week ago I went on Toyota's vehicle builder just for fun and noticed that Barcelona red is now "out of production" Pretty sure that if I hadn't told them, the dealership would still be fighting for that allocation today. Think about that for a second! :boom:

So I changed my order to an SR5 doublecab in either Silver or Red, hoping that those will be easier/faster to find. The dealer is telling me I'm back to square one on the wait though, which means I will miss the december incentives and now have to rent something for the snowy months.

That's super frustrating man, I feel your pain. My dealer told me production at the San Antonio plant is at max capacity and they still can't keep up with demand.

There was a 2021 Luna Rock TRD Pro I had the chance to get. It's getting to the dealer this month. I ultimately decided to wait for the 2022 as much as I'm dying to upgrade my 2020 Tacoma due to space with a car seat.

Well I just got a call from the dealership. My new Pro is here finally. Bad thing is due to work I will not be able to pick it up until Friday. Ordered 8/22 delivered 12/15. Helluva wait but I’m sure it will be worth it.

I order was accepted October 21st and the truck was delivered to the dealer December 21st.

    2 months isn't all that bad I don't guess.

placed order Oct 13th, toyota has accepted order. Still no conformation for delivery date.
Just talked to a very nice guy at dealership who explained whole process clearly to me leaving no ambiguities which i really appreciate, told me that he doesnt see my order for another abt 2 months out and that my deposit is 100% refundable if i decide to buy somewhere else.
I might hold off up until 2022 model shows up just to compare with 2021 model and then take delivery.
Probably will be atleast 5 to 6 months wait time all together IF toyota decide to make my order in next batch

Just put a deposit down on a plain Jane barcelona red SX. Dealership said it will arrive jan 7th-12th. Since I didn't make any modifications to the truck I imagine there won't be any issues but we will see. Ive heard enough horror stories about promised delivery times to be skeptical

So much of this seems like luck of the draw. Some people get their allocation in a matter of weeks and others are waiting months on end. No clue why this is such a confusing process with no straight answers. I'm about a month into my wait. Inventory manager said I'll get the allocation, but it's going to be slower than usual. I'm ok waiting as long as it's going to show up, so hopefully she's being truthful.

My order was placed 10/13 as well. Truck arrived at dealer 12/18. Reading this tread you ordered an "army green in trd sport". Is this a DC or CM? I wish you luck with an allocation. In your shoes if I didn't receive an update with allocated by 3/13/21 then I'd re-think the order as if the 2022 redesign hits the auto show in February then it's possible the build for your order will not be fulfilled. Remember there's a lot of retooling needed in San Antonio for the 2022 redesign if it proceeds on current schedule. I'm not saying the 21's stop production right away, just if you've waited 5 months without an allocation for an "army green in trd sport" I imagine the odds slimming.

That is very reaistic approach in my opinion. I would definitely be rethinking my choice of armygreen trd sport if i didnt get any prod date by march which means the chances would be slim to none at that point and i would might try to snatch something 1000 or so miles away at maybe premium

I have no idea if it works the same way down there, but I’ve done the same thing up here :canada:buying new cars four times now: I use a broker, or fleet buyer. Because they purchase so many vehicles each year (thousands!), they seem to have leverage with Toyota. I call up, tell them exactly what I want, and they call back within an hour with a price that’s usually better than anything I could get at the dealership. In the case of the Tundra, $2k less than msrp. No haggling, “speaking with my manager”, or any BS. Called in early September, received the vehicle at the end of October. Picked it up at a Kia dealership... :notsure:

A funny story: 25 years ago we did this the first time buying a new Camry. Went to the dealer, spent 2 hours haggling, dealer wouldn’t come down the $1k I wanted and I walked. A friend suggested the above technique; I made the call, got a price $3k lower than what I had been asking. And sent me to the same dealer to pick it up... Boy, were there some red faces there...:D

To be fair, it’s not as easy as it once was, but I’d suggest getting a lead from your corporate fleet guy (or a friend’s). These guys don’t want to spend much time on these deals, as it’s only a few hundred (?) in their pocket, and there’s no hand holding or special requests.

sounds like very good technique but i need a FRIEND for that lol. I dont know where to start to get in touch with fleet buyer.

I thought they were going to still attempt to pull off a "virtual" show?
