I've been reading some threads on regearing and it's hard to find any definitive answers. I'm guessing the gear ratio I would go to from the stock 4.30 would be to 4.56 to accommodate 295/70 (34.3") tires. That doesn't seem to be that much of a difference. I would like to recoup some of the fuel and performance lost due to a larger tire size especially when I'm towing my TT. Will that make enough of a difference to regear?

If you run the math on how much it costs you to fuel up your truck and how many MPGs you get versus $3000-$4000 dollars that will answer your question on re gearing for 35’s. I run 285/75R18s and get 12mpg on avg. I do not think re gearing would make it worth it for me for a potential 1-3 mile per gallon gain.

Actually the math at 3 mpg given 12,000 miles a year would save you $450. I would think the install would be closer to $2,000 or maybe less. And then there's the performance gain with less strain on the drive train. This is my DD as well as my tow vehicle.

Also.... you only have two choices anyways for our trucks and gears and that's 4.88 and 5.29.

I've been looking at the 4.56 ratio, that's what my calculation comes to. Are you saying the 4.56 gear set isn't available for the Tundra?

Yes, we only have 4.88 and 5.29 for our trucks..... they don't make any other sizes for us

I towed my TT with lift and 295/70 never felt it was under geared or underpowered.. My gas milage went down probably roughly 1-2 mpg overall.. When I first bought the truck best I got was 15 ish when I traded it, best I got was 13ish.. Not towing . Averaged about 10 towing.. Unless your set that you have to re gear, personally I wouldn't bother . I will say the truck did downshift more on long grades ect.. But overall drivability was just fine ...Regear is mucho $$$ for the average person to justify IMO..

I have 4:88s with 34s improved mpg and no more gear hunting. The truck is much happier. Its worth the money

I did talk to Keith at Dirty Deeds and he recommended the 5.29 gear set. I'd like to do some more research, 4.88s do seem to be the the logical choice but 5.29s may be a better option.

I have been running 35’s with 5.29 gears for over a year now. I would not go back

35+ run 5:29s there is only 100 rpm difference at 70mph between 4:88 and 5:29.

I did the math. If I remember correctly, you'd have to fill up 297 times with a 38 gal (32) tank to break even.

Necessary? Is it necessary to drink my own urine? No, but it's sterile and I like the taste.
    -Patches

Patches agrees, JUST DO IT. Im on 35s and 2k miles into 5.29s with a rear PowerTrax Grip Pro. Best money spent in a while.

I haven been running 5.29s since Feburary with 295/70R18 (34.3"x11.5) tires. My MPG is 0.3mpg lower than before gearing, but the power and acceleration is worth it. I plan to go up to 35s next and 37s eventually.
Towing is so much easier and trans temps stay under 200 98% of the time. We did a 2200 mile trip to Florida back in June towing our 26 ft camper, truck had no issues at 70mph.
Before gears, pulling the camper thru the Texas hillcountry the truck would constantly downshift to 3rd and sometimes 2nd gear while going 45-55mph trying to maintain speed. Now the truck stays in 4th gear and will only drop down to 3rd if I push the pedal down.
I daily drive my truck 12-15k miles a year and enjoy my truck more now after gears.

yeppers and with all the additional weight from armor, tires, etc. it works

The Speedo has been corrected so the actual speed and RPM are accurate

I forgot to mention that I have my Speedo corrected and it is right on. The posted speed limit is 75, the GPS from 2018 is slightly off on when it starts and stops the speed change location

I got Nitro 5.29 gears and Auburn LSD from BossOffroad during their 2019 black friday sale. I recall it being around $1500 for parts, install was $1k. Nitro prices have gone up twice since I bought my gears and I would look into the Powertrax GripPro LSD now. Matt and MCM fab can get you the grip pro

You will probably find the largest discount in the gears.
The Powertrax is a new item so most don’t have much wiggle room on those.

Go back to stock tire size, I love the power plus the fuel mileage is great, not the best but better than everyones that's lifted or has bigger tires. Also research about gear whine, some people have reported after regearing that there's a whine that can be heard while driving.

performance too? I know changing diffs will have quicker acceleration just not sure how much it'll improve in this case, I have this unhealthy obsession of trying to hit 13"s before forced induction.

I tow sub 7k lbs and Ontario is as flat as it gets, so not too concern with towing.

There’s a post in one of these multitude of threads on gearing that shows a video of a number of tundras on a dry lakebed racing from a dead start.
    1. 4.88s
    2. 5.29s
    3. Supercharged
    4. Headers with 4.88s
    All on 35s

The guy with 5.29s smoked them all.

    I like fast too!
