Anyone else have a constant creaky/squeaky truck?

Best way I can describe the noise is a high pitched squeak/creak... I guess the noise people would make to mimic the sound of a squeaky bed when people are *doing it*.

The only thing I can narrow it down to is polyurethane steering rack bushings... I've learned to live with it but it can be embarrassing when going over speed bumps. Sometimes the creak comes every time I turn the wheel left and right but thats intermittent.

Is this due to lift and aftermarket suspension? Every single suspension component on my truck is brand new (OEM or high end aftermarket).

Have you tried new sway bar bushings? Easy to replace, be sure to clean up real good before putting on new ones. Been a while but I believe the better aftermarket kits come with a synthetic lube. Mine got really loud, speed bumps were embarrassing.

 

Haha! Yep, I’ve got the same. You can hear Hulk approaching from 1/4 mile out. He’s for off-road fun, not daily driving, and has his own fan-base, so I don’t really mind.

That said, yes, it’s the after-market suspension— I think the bushings. I got a recommendation from a guy at a renowned suspension shop to use some kind of... something... to get rid of the noise. I’ll see if I can find the name of that, and update to post it here.

 

Not sure if you have super bumps but mine were squeaking badly until I sprayed some silicone on them.

 

Use a grease gun with a Silicone Based Grease (SilGlyde). The tip should be a needle. Slip it in and around the bushing(s) and pump a little bit of grease all the way around as much as possible.

Easy way and eliminates unnecessary removal.

Start with:

1) Sway Bar Bushings.

2) Steering Rack Bushings.

 

Listened to vid. Probably the ‘D’ Ring on the Steering Rack. Lube everything anyways.

Oh I have the same squeak, I discovered that my lower rubber shock/strut bushings were completely smashed and that was the cause of the squeak, I would bet that you have the same issue. They are very easy to check, it is the bushing where the bolt goes through the shock/strut at the bottom.

BTW I am sure this has been addressed many times but our trucks do not have struts they have shocks but nowadays everybody seems to use that terminology to describe our front shock assembly.

I have a small squeek coming from the rear suspension. Probably bushings on the leaf springs or shocks. I only hear it when I turn down the tunes and roll the window down. It will get added to the list of problems I have no issue not fixing. LOL.

I did have a squeek coming from the dash and I added some foam backer rod I found at Lowe's. I squished in along the entire width of the dash between the dash and windshield. She's quiet now.

Rubber bushings are not squeaky. Poly bushings are. Silicone lube is good. It will frequently have to be re-lubed. Make sure to inspect the upper and lower ball joints, these should not be squeaky. Squeaky ball joints are bad. Lube all the moveable joints with appropriate lube and your ride should not be squeaky. Rear shock mounts can be squeaky. Inside tailgate handle cover panel can be squeaky as well. I put a thin weather stripping all the way around mine and it stopped.

 

Knabores, One cause of the squeak from the front end comes from metal on metal contact once the lower shock bushings are completely squished. I have verified this problem in at least three other tundras all first GEN’s.

 

I also have creaks and groans from the front suspension. Sadly, both on the truck and on me. I've been tempted to hose the bushings on the truck down with Ballistol to see if that helps. My own creaks and groans are a different issue.

 

When I hit the speed bumps at 30+ mph, I can definitely hear the leaf springs squeak.

I also have the dash squeak but I just turn up the radio and ignore it.

 

Did you change yours? Mine are also effed up and I looked for new bushings but couldn’t find any or haven’t found correct ones.

 

My tundra had a lot worse of a squeaking sound, at first I thought it could've been the cheaper lift kit we went with but after hitting the whole front drivetrain with WD40 and greasing ther ball bearings of the axle and a few laps around the block to work it in and it has been just fine the past few months other than the occasional Toyota squeak.

 

Nice tread revival. I just hit 300k and yes everything makes noise.

That being said, she doesn’t leak a drop of anything, I haven’t checked the trans fluid in over 100k, and she purrs like a kitten.

So, I’ll deal with some squeaks and rattles.
