I like color matching the 3rd bar. Looks cleaner

Yep, lift doesn't effect tie rod. I used moog tie rods and have been happy with them.

Thanks for the feed back. How many miles do you have on yours?

I realized writing this post that I'll need boots also, and possibly inner tie rods because the "rust" is at the ball joint inside the boots.

Idk if rtv is the route I would take. I believe that stickiest of the icky is butyl. Should be cheap and some good plastic sheeting will do.

@Tundra2 you can either leave the tie rods for later, or do them now. A little grit in them won't hurt a thing. I go Moog on those, pretty good pricing and quality. Paint them when you install them or they'll rust in a week.

Thanks. I think I'll leave them be for now. My time off ends today, and resumes Thursday. Ends Monday after that. Will need to be on the road quick.

If money wasn't an option I guess the ability to self insure would also fit into that scenario  Super hi-dolla to retain 4WD but them hubs though...

15,000 roughly. I agree with @Darkness that they don't have to happen right way and they are pretty easy to do on their own. You'll need an alignment again though. Also do inner and outer at the same time if your inners are looking worn

Met two guys from TacomaWorld and did a trail in NC today. By far the most technical one I've done. It took us 3 hours to go 6 miles. At one point we came up on an area with a huge drop. Going back wasn't an option so down we went. Crushed my trailer light harness/plug. All things considered I was actually relieved that was the only damage. I need a Brute Force rear bumper!

I didn't have time to take many pics but I think one of the other guys did.

There were at least 10-12 creek crossings. This one was the deepest and had some rocks we couldn't see.

Welcome to the club. Beautiful scenery, plus you can't go wrong with Steely Dan when it comes to wheeling music.

One thing I've noticed is that my transmission gets real hot, real fast, when I'm crawling in 4HI. I hit 210 degrees today. In 4LO, temps dropped dramatically and stayed around 160.

Right now I have my trailer plug harness in a janky hole mount until I can find a better option or bracket. I ripped the cover off the 4runner harness going down a steep drop(chimney rock trail) so I will try and recess is when I make the perminent mount on the MOastal offroad bumper.

3 hours to go in and out 6miles or a loop? Either way, that’s some butt pucker for a long time!!!! When me and @robabeatle did rice peak, I thought there was no way it could take 4+hrs to go 5miles, but it took all of that!
Hopefully you had fun and learned some things, that’s always the point!

So my buddy with a 4th Gen 4runner says, anytime it’s on dirt it’s in 4low.
I don’t know if I really want to run that high revs on a long straight aways. But....... 4low definitely helps lower trans temps. Timmothy the tool man has a video about such instances.

6 miles straight through the mountains. It wasn't a loop. I definitely learned a few things. There were a few times I was really regretting my decision to be there. :D

That's the case with my truck. Truck will be in and out of gears too much so I put 4-LO with any considerable rocky incline. I just watch the RPMs and don't go faster than 25MPH. I am constantly fighting the heat in my climate when I notice the truck getting warm I will pop the truck in neutral and put on the gas to get air cooling from the engine fan.

I'll put the shifter in L to keep the transmission from changing gears and it still gets hot in 4HI. I guess I'll be using 4L more going forward.

4-LO makes the truck feel like it could drive up a vertical wall, can be kinda fun.

Yes it's an entirely different truck. The skinny pedal becomes very sensitive. Saves the brakes when going down steep hills too.

Yep. This dude holds the Tundra2 record for deer kills. 12. Think 13 might do her in. :D

Last one pushed the radiator into the fan flush with the fan clutch at 60mph. Big 11 point buck broadside. It was fun pulling the carcass out if the engine bay.

Parts for these trucks are readily available at any local junkyard. My tundra? I'm traveling 300 miles one way for parts at the pick'n'pull.

Interesting. I just figured that most are still on the road, or sat long enough to be crushed at the yard.
