Anybody changed out their battery on a 5.7? Based on what I looked up it takes a group 24f but the battery in my truck does not match that frame size. The battery in it is factory size.
    Thanks Ray

24f can fit as long as it has enough crank amps to turn over the starter.... I've swapped out about a dozen of those factory ones, since my truck was just killing them by the week... I have an Optima yellow top and I've had to swap out the stock battery tie down for my Celica's battery tie down so it can fit properly. I've run Optimas for about 6 years so far, I'm on my 3rd Optima..

27F is the way to go. Get it at an autoparts store that will put it in for free. If for some reason it doesnt fit, they can swap it for a different size.

I went for a 27f Interstate from Costco, it has a few more cold cranking amps over the 24f that makes the starter turn the engine over fast for a quick start. The 27f fits in without any alterations.

Thanks for the advise. I went ahead and installed the 24f but I left off the insulating jacket toyota puts around them. Thats how I noticed the battery was a different size. I always try and get the largest CCA battery I can get, this one is 850. I like batteries that's larger enough when the starter locks up it flips the truck over. I'm sure its adequate but was just wondering why all the parts sites calls for a 24f when its different from the factory.

27F is the factory battery with tow package and / or cold weather package.

I did the same thing. 27 lasted 18 months. Maybe COVID killed it (me not driving as much?). Anyway, went back to Costco and ended up with a 24. Wasn’t going to gripe about it until I ran it down with my phone) and had to call AAA. It came up as needing to replace. This has all occurred since Thanksgiving. Can anyone tell me what other battery I can get from a place that will put it in? I can’t do it myself and don’t want to bother my friend’s husband again. I’ve tried to read all the battery posts but got lost. I’m willing to spend more for it. I’ll be taking that battery back to Costco for good.

There is only one battery I would recommend to a friend, especially a female friend: Northstar NSB-AGM27F. They're pricey at about $380. If you go to the Northstar Battery site, you may be able to find a local dealer that can install for you.

For your Tundra, you will need a 27F size. The "F" is important because the terminals on the Tundra are reversed from the standard. The Northstar is sealed and requires no maintenance. You never have to add water. If you connect a smart maintenance charger (CTEK) occasionally, the Northstar will last even longer. It will probably last twice as long as most contemporary automotive batteries anyway.

Edit: For those that have researched batteries, I've just learned that Northstar Battery was bought out by Odessey in October, 2019. Remains to be seen if the former quality standards are maintained.

"Batteries Plus" carries this battery (branded differently but the same thing) and they will happily install it for you. You can usually find a coupon online. I assume they are a national chain.

I know @blackdemon_tt hates the Toyota batteries... but, on my V8 4Runner I tried a Costco battery first (whatever size for a v6) and I took it back. It had the CCA’s but not the reserve capacity and died all the time. Installed a Toyota battery two years ago now, no problems and it was half the price of all the auto stores.

LOL, subjective... the Toyota batteries I replaced were from a place that habitually saw 100 degrees on a daily basis, which quickly shortened the lifespan of any type of battery, and yes that includes the Optima batteries.. The hobby shop, or auto repair shop at the base I was stationed at also disliked the Optimas in hot temperature as non usually survived very long...

I hate Toyota batteries simply because they make a highly reliable vehicle unreliable. Com'on, Toyota!

Toyota's batteries are probably no different than any of the other cheap-azz batteries being manufactured now. Starting about 2016 MY, Toyota OEM batteries seldom last more 24-30 months. Any replacement battery from a Toyota dealer now is probably the same battery being supplied to the San Antonio plant. That sounds like good news, but it's not. Objective data is linked below. Because of the wide geographic range of Tundras.com membership, some normalization across climate is provided:

LOL, mine is an early 2nd gen, and I could barely get 3 weeks out of a Toyota battery... I even got a 3 week hold for some electrical engineers to take a look at the situation... Got a nice letter from Toyota claiming it was good electrically and no notable issues to dying batteries every 3 weeks, and I used the shit out of my AAA membership, as they knew what I needed before I told them.... It almost felt like I had my own personal pit crew at the time... I did end up killing my MR2's optima red top (1 year of ownership), quickly followed up by my Celica's yellow top (4 years of ownership).... Pointing out how long I had these batteries before I swapped them into the Tundra..

    So...Your Tundra just has trouble committing to a relationship...with a battery? :D

Like many other "problems", when the dealer tells you "it's normal", and it clearly isn't, you have exhausted their technical expertise, or the time they're willing to spend on the problem. Some problems will only be fixed ultimately by...the crusher.

called dealer, total waste of time. lol.

the battery has to be totally dead to warranty it, even if its leaking a bit on top. mine just doesn't hold a full enough charge so when its sits over night or for a couple nights, it doesn't crank right.

I think Im just going to say piss on Toyota batteries, this would be the 3rd one since I got the truck in 2016.

I think I may try and go with one of these

ok, went and got that battery and installed it, cranked WAY better but I think I also have something else going on, wouldn't start and smelled like gas like a mofo

Ive been having trouble for a while, the battery wasn't helping as it was cranking like crap, but now that if fixed it must be something else.

we shall see what Toyota has to say.

but the farm and fleet AGM seems nice, made in USA. I think Penn makes them

WTF??? This is new, LOL... The moment it wouldn't start, they usually replaced mine, instantly.. I went through 9 in about a year and a half?? roughly 1 about every 3 weeks or so, I usually had to get AAA to jump start it so I got to where ever I needed to... I usually took it in for combined service, an oil change and new battery, but usually was a new battery, they knew me by name and what I needed, because I would turn the truck off on purpose with the service advisor so they'd have to push this bitch to the service bay, which usually convinced them it needed a new battery to begin with... strong fuel smell may be your oxygen sensors starting to go...

I second to get The 27f x2 (look for a sale they run them) from batteries plus. They probably won’t stock the battery either so order online and have it delivered to the local store. Call ahead to make sure that store will install it for you. It’s an expensive battery, but it should last and last. Provides a much longer rundown time than stock or a cheap auto parts store. You’ll probably be ok with a cheap battery if you don’t run the truck without it cranked, but I run a fridge and charge my camper battery off mine 24/7 when I’m vacationing and it’s nice to have all the cranking power and lasting power of the battery. 2F816A43-315F-42D3-9E81-C0CDF28533C8.jpg

Damn!!, gotta admit that mine still looked brand new when I traded them in... I did engrave them, just to make sure they weren't pulling my leg and just charging them and reinstalling them... lol...

thats a hell of a battery, if I had those uses I would opt for something like that as well.

I just have an audio system so the farm and fleet AGM I got should be fine, man does it crank better with that in there.

it was only 169 bucks which is pretty good for a AGM battery

It cranks essentially the same. Just has the long lasting amp hours too. A true “dual cycle” batter.

I was proactive and replaced my original Toyota battery at about 39 months. A friend is an Interstate dealer, so got a MTP-27F at cost ($105). At my prior service a couple months before, Toyota recommended they replace the battery, and when I declined they made sure to note it on my service summary lol.

They are doing 10% off online order and $30 rebate, is that about the best they do? my OEM battery that is about 40 mo old is starting to have a harder time cranking in these cooler temps in CO. I was thinking about a costco interstate battery, but noticed these X2 have a 60 mo replacement, whereas costco is only like 30 mo these days (found that out recently when i replaced the wifes LC100 battery).

i havent dont much research, but these x2 are solid batteries? Same housing it appears as the northstar, is it a rebrand? from my little reading, it seems there are only a few actual battery mfgs, htey just slap different colored housings and labels on them to distinguish different brands?

    Thanks for any comments

It’s a northstar. I didn’t shop the sales but it seems there has been 20% off before. It was a lot easier for me to get an x2 than a northstar locally.
